Social Media Stars ICT Article
People not part of our generation have a whole different idea when it comes to what a social media celebrity is. This term is only familiar to us, millennials as we are in the digital age therefore making us digitally inclined. “The Generation of Likes” is hard to explain to people who aren’t the audience and most importantly the creators. Therefore, it is understandable that the people that are marginalized from this have no clue at all regarding the topic. I have heard that social media celebrities avoid explaining this as understanding the complexity of how people get money through their following and likes themselves is a very tedious and hard concept to grasp. Nevertheless, these social media stars are famous for a reason.
Today, we will be focusing on one of the many platforms these creators use to reach their audience. In February 2005, YouTube was established. It is a website where anyone is able to share their own videos, and watch other people’s as well. This question is ever present: What is so interesting and important about these people that majority of youth today can’t get enough of them, especially that they are just regular people? The answer is in the statement itself. They are just regular people therefore they click and connect with people around the world with same interests. Each and every individual feel a unique connection as they might have the same traits, qualities or beliefs with the creators.
This is an important, relevant and timely result of the evolution of Social Media and technology. It is equal for all people as YouTube can be accessible to anyone. This results to people as creators to have the chance to be able to express their feelings and give inspiration to millions through posting different kinds of content which is diverse. This and empowering people is the main focus and implication of YouTube based from my own perspective which is easily made in the form of a simple video. It also creates a growing interactive community as the viewers of the videos also play a big part as they can voice out their own opinions as well, having debates in the comment section at times.
It benefits each and every individual regardless if he or she is a creator or a viewer as in some way, it can form a sense of knowing yourself, what you like and what you can improve through watching or posting videos that best suit your interests. Although it doesn’t seem like a job at all, people who are often unfamiliar as I said earlier assume that it isn’t difficult. I mean, how hard is it to talk to a camera? Wrong. It is a very difficult task I can say from first-hand experience of trying to pursue such endeavour and is as equal as a 5-10 office job or career. Because I have been exposed to the YouTube scene, I see the world through other people’s different perspectives and learn life lessons second hand through watching what the creators go through and their experiences through the content they provide.

Being Social Media Dependent
The Rules of Netiquette Article
It’s the 21st century, so we often do assume that majority of people around the world uses Social Media. In the span of 10 years, each and every person’s lifestyles have been changed regardless of age because of this world of updating and sharing. Little do we realize and/or refuse to realize that we might be using Social Media too much. We cannot deny that social media has helped us in so many different positive ways regarding connection, communication and accessibility on a global scale but, this is not the case most of the time. As the saying goes, too much of everything isn’t good.
There was a time when I have even attempted to go cold turkey when it came to getting rid of my Facebook account (to no success because I needed it for communication) because I felt that I was not getting anything positive from it anymore. Aside from music, this is the main reason I still carry my phone around everywhere I go. Still, I am working on it. I have mentioned this in previous essays before on how likes were affecting my self-esteem and how it was an endless cycle of comparing my life to other people’s filtered online lives. Yes, from the outside their lives seemed perfect compared to my utterly sorrowful and depressing life. It takes a lot of self-encouragement to remind myself that what they post is not true at all and what they want other people to see.
I used to be frustrated at people who didn’t reply to me the second I send them a message. I now think better of them as they are busy doing things I’d like to be busy doing that did not involve Social Media or technology. I am not hating on Social Media. As I said, It definitely has its benefits but we cannot deny its downsides. I just feel the need to be vocal about my opinion on this issue that most of the people I know are facing. I have always been bothered by how we are becoming more and more dependent on Social Media. “I have been viewing the world through a screen” is what Ed Sheeran posted when he had to take a break from Social Media.
I felt the need to snap and take photos of everything that is happening to me in every moment. I am not saying that this is bad and that I am shaming people who do this such as a handful of friends that I have, but it is just definitely not for me. There are a couple of times that I can think of when I talk about this social media dependency. For instance, I was with my grandma who always liked taking selfies before we started our meals. Or when I’m with my friend who is fond of snapping everything she does. I had a sudden self-actualization in moments like these that got me thinking. Is this really necessary? Do people who view what I post online really care about what I’m doing 24/7? I have better things to do.
I am improving everyday as I lessen my dependency on Social Media. I hope everyone who reads this realizes if their use of it is beneficial and worth the time they give it

ICT Personal Essay
I have this fear of going out of my house without these three things: my trusty powerbank, earphones and my phone (with load). Every time I leave without them, I immediately go back to my house even if I’m already far away. If I don’t have the option to get them, I tend to start my day in a bad mood, and you will find out why in the next paragraphs.
When I go out, more often than not I find myself having a drained phone. It’s my main distaste for my iPhone as the battery life doesn’t last very long. This one time when I asked my mom to pick me up after hanging out with friends, I was left alone at the mall until 11am due to the fact that my mom couldn’t pick me up earlier. I had 10% left on my phone and I my anxiety was not helping because at the back of my mind, my phone was about to die. I predicted right. Although I had my charger with me, most of the stores were already closed so I couldn’t charge. I ended up thinking of the worst possible outcomes of my situation until my mom picked me up. This is the main reason why I immediately bought a power bank, which I bring around literally everywhere.
I love music just like anybody else. It puts me in a good mood, and it definitely takes away boredom in many situations when I have nothing to do at all. So, earphones are a necessity everywhere I go. I’m really irresponsible when it comes to organization, I tend to lose my earphones a lot or get them tangled. It usually is the small earbud that tends to fall off all the time, or sometimes I even forget where I put my earphones entirely. This is why I bought a packet of buds (yes I don’t know where I put them) which I still have yet to find ironically.
I am very dependent on WiFi, so I do not usually have load for texting or calling. This one time I was on the way to a friend’s condo in an Uber when I saw the big red sign on messenger that said “Disconnected”. I had a mini-heart attack as I forgot that I didn’t have 3G to be able to tell my friend that I was already at the lobby. I spent almost an hour finding a way to be able to communicate with my friend, not to mention the pressuring glare of the receptionist who was wondering why I was just casually hanging out in their lobby. Conveniently, they had a Save More store at the condo and I bought one of those load cards for WiFi which I had a hard time registering. Even if this was just a small inconvenience, it is something I could have easily avoided.
These three things take away the stress in almost every situation I’m in, every day. It helps me, along with everybody else live our lives more conveniently and improves our way of living. So, I should always be mindful and careful not to forget these things as they make my way of communicating easier and on the side line, they keep me entertained.

The Rules of Netiquette Personal Essay
Personal Experience of Being Annoying Online and Regretting it
During my active time on Yahoo Messenger, Club Penguin and Friendster, Facebook emerged. Between the ages 8 years old - 14 years old I was hooked on my Facebook account. You were weird or unusual when you did not have your own account so I had to catch up with the trend (This is still kind of true until today).
Posting non-stop during this part of my life lead to embarrassment and a whole lot of tormenting on what silly things I would post which haunted me later on. I started posting without thinking of consequences in the future. Well, I couldn’t blame myself because I was a child with no care in the world. I now get why my parents didn’t want me to create these online accounts at a very young age. They were right as I grew up right in time for the digital age. Oh how I wish I was born a few years back where fun was seen as playing on the streets, and not staring at a screen.
Anyway moving on, Facebook was new and Facebook games such as Pet Society, Tetris, and Restaurant City was the real deal. You often have the option to receive prizes such as battery on Tetris or Playfish Cash on Pet Society (this was so hard to come by) when you shared it to a friend. So, of course being the most annoying child in the world who wanted more items in my virtual world, I would tend to flood everyone in my friends list regarding these games. I bawled when these games shut down one by one, little by little taking all the time I invested in it with them. There was this one instance where I was so irritating that it led to the point that my older sister’s friend had to have me blocked as I was bothering her too much as she was busy with schoolwork by flooding her.
The pictures posted on that account is a goldmine and can be used to blackmail me and was definitely used to blackmail me. I wish I could still dig deep to find my old captions because I’d like to see what was happening in my brain during that age. One thing I like about social media is that it keeps all your memories stored. When I was realizing that the older pictures I posted were embarrassing, it was really funny looking back as I can clearly see when and where my self-consciousness and vanity was formed.
This lead to the termination or deactivation of said account which I sometimes visit up to this day to get certain memories or pictures. Even if it is deactivated, I can never fully delete this account of mine. I consider myself a memory hoarder as I am a very sentimental person. I like to look back once in awhile especially at the happiest memories I have captured. Although I was really annoying online, it still had its benefits and huge effect on how media literate I have become through all these years.
