a huli jing is a fox spirit, often known for easily seducing people and getting what they want.
maybe that would explain why megan was waving her tails in your face, trying to seduce you peacock style?
“megan get your tails away from my face!” you shouted, swatting them away.
“but aren’t they so fluffy and soft? come on please!” megan begged, her ears flattening against her head as she gave you the most devastating puppy dog eyes.
it wasn’t that you didn’t like megan, if anyone were to ask you’d say you adored the girl. but you were just too busy with school work to balance a relationship on top of that. it just didn’t seem fair to string her along when you felt like you couldn’t give her the attention she deserved.
“meimei i told you i’m busy,” you say as you pat her head in an attempt to make her feel better.
the girl could only look at you with a pout, “but we would be so good together!”
you always had a soft spot for her, and although the rumours of her getting a new partner every week was making its waves around school, you knew it wasn’t real.
after all, megan was just an adorable loser trying her hardest to get the attention of a certain girl that wouldn’t give her the time of day.
“guys i don’t know what else i can dooooo, what if she hates me?” the spirit whined to her friends.
“she probably does,” yoonchae scoffed, ripping into the raw steak that sat on her plate before getting a light hit from a certain vampire.
“hey be nice! you know how much this means to her.” sophia was always trying to keep the peace between the two.
“if i’m away from you for more than 2 seconds i think i’ll explode!” megan said promptly before flopping onto the lunch table. “do you guys think if i sulk enough she’ll like me back?”
“no” both yoonchae and sophia said, almost as if rehearsed.
megan only whined louder, her ears flattening against her head.
yoonchae could only sit and watch her for so long before coming up with an idea. “what if you stopped trying to get her attention so badly, you have to be nonchalant!”
“100%, you are coming on too strong. you need to show her that you are a normal spirit with regular interests and hobbies. when was the last time you went to dance?” sophia asked.
megan thought about it for a while, maybe this was her chance to show you that she had hobbies, and had a great gf material personality.
“you guys are right! i have to be cool, i lost all of it when i was begging on my knees outside her front door yesterday but this is my chance!” megan suddenly perked up and ran out of the cafeteria, yoonchae and sophia swear they have never seen the girl run with as much purpose as she did that day.
meanwhile you were having lunch with your own friends.
“oh y/n you got some fur in your hair,” manon said, picking it out before throwing it half haphazardly onto the floor.
“ugh it’s megans, i recognize that colour from a mile away.” you said before sighing into your sandwich.
dani held back a giggle, “so you recognize her fur that quickly huh?”
“please don’t think too much of it,” you whined at the girl, sure you liked megan but it’s not like you were obsessed. right?
sure you knew her favourite colour, food, what days she’d wash her hair, her favourite place to shop, and how she always carried an umbrella in case it rained because she hates the rain.
but anyone would know that.
“...i’m just saying, you should at least reject the girl or something. god knows the whole school would leap at the chance to be with her,” lara said something in which you only caught the second half of it.
i mean yeah, you should probably tell megan you aren’t interested.
but that would just be a lie, and mama didn’t raise no liar.
your friends were right, you should tell megan that you like her. you’ve never been in a relationship before so everything was unfamiliar, but with megan’s persistence there’s no way either of you would lose interest right?
or at least thats what you told yourself before you walked into school and realized there wasn’t a goofy fox spirit chatting your ears off.
maybe she was running late?
you continued to walk down the hallways before finally seeing where your little fox was.
did you say your fox? you meant the fox, just a fox, not like she’s yours or anything.
megan was talking next to the lockers in a group surrounded by girls, a strange feeling of anger couldn’t help but bubble up in your chest.
“i thought she said she liked me?” you mumbled to yourself.
“jealous much?” yoonchae appeared behind you, scaring the living shit out of you.
you shouted and jumped before pushing the jangsanbeom away from you.
“i’m just saying~ you never have that ugly scowl on your face, especially not when looking at your little crush.” she teased, her tail slowly moving back in fourth in content. she was clearly enjoying your misery.
“it’s not like that. i’m just used to her being near me instead. not over there…” you mumbled again, not wanting to admit it to yourself.
you secretly liked the overbearing fox, how she would wait for you at the entrance of the school everyday without fail. how she would constantly have snacks in her back specially packed and catered towards you and what you liked.
but now that seems to be gone.
“maybe you just need to show you that you actually like her, rather than being so annoyed all the time.” yoonchae said, now walking next to you as you moped.
“megan must think i don’t like her… or maybe she got tired of me either way i know what i need to do. i need to show her that i like her back!” you said, the sun is still out and there is always hope!
yoonchae could only give you a light shove, stating she just told you that but there’s no proof of that so i guess it didn’t happen.
you started walking away faster as you planned how to win back megan.
phase one: snacks
you knew megan’s favourite brand of milk bread, the one with the stupidly cute fox mascot on the packaging. (you had always teased her saying she only liked it because there was a fox like her) you bought two during lunch and waited by the lockers where she would usually waited for you.
as she was walking down the hallway, you tried to catch her eye but she walked past without sparing a glance at you.
no smiling with her cute whisker dimples, no wave, not even a teasing remark like “y/n/n are those for me?” like she normally would if you were holding any type of food.
“...oh,” you muttered, holding the bread like an idiot.
unknown to you, megan was sweating. her tails were as stiff as boards, willing all nine of them still as she wanted to move them so badly.
“don’t look, don’t look, don’t look, spirits with hobbies do not accept milk bread from super cute super adorable girls who look at them like that.” megan thought to herself. “but i wish they did :(“
her ears couldn’t help but flatten against her head.
okay so phase one didn’t work out but what about phase two?
compliments.
everyone wants to be complimented, but you want to show that you actually mean what you say.
so of course complimenting an obscure thing is the best way to show it.
the next day you caught her on her way to her next class, walking down the hallway.
“meimei!” you called out, as she turned to face you.
you felt your heart racing, and your thoughts were gone. your head has never felt more hollow.
“you….”
you couldn’t think properly quick just spit something out before she thinks you’re weird!
“...you look like you would give someone the bigger half of a snack split in half!”
you might as well fade into the shadows and never show your face to her ever again because what the hell was that. your compliment had as much grace and elegance as an old woman walking on an icy sidewalk.
megan froze for half a second before nodding, “thanks,” before walking away.
wow hope she kissed that brick before throwing it at your face, because sure feels like you just got hit.
meanwhile megan was having her own battles.
“OH MY GOD SHE COMPLIMENTED ME! I THINK I CAN JUST DIE PEACEFULLY NOW! SHE NOTICES THE LITTLE THINGS I DO!!!” megan thought.
her tails tried to wag but before they got the chance, she shoved them under her jacket like contraband.
you watched as megan didn’t even give you a second thought.
maybe you lost her for good.
at lunch you sat with lara, dani and manon again, staring into your plate of mush.
dani poked at your head before asking, “what’s got you moping around?”
and that's what broke the dam as you started weeping into your food.
“I THINK I RUINED EVERYTHING AND MEGAN DOESN’T LIKE ME!” you sobbed as manon gave a “what am i supposed to do to stop this” look to lara.
“what makes you think that,” lara asked.
“well she stopped talking to me, and she didn’t take the snacks i offered her and…” you didn't continue your sentence as you just sat there deflated.
lara bursted out laughing at your pitiful state.
“you just have to get closer to her, but maybe in a more physical way you know?” manon said, giving your shoulder a nudge.
you could do that, totally no problem.
you sat next to her in class.
well, you tried.
she scootched her chair back.
just a little polite distance, something that looked respectful to any stranger but absolutely soul crushing to you.
you spent the rest of the lesson staring at your notebook, doodling fox spirits that looked eerily similar to the fox spirit that was trying to peek a look without you noticing.
“if i turn my head i will cave. if i cave, sophia kills me. but if i cave, i’ll propose to her and we could have a fancy wedding :( “ megan thought.
megan spent the entire lesson staring straight at the board, taking a couple peeks at your drawings before snapping out of it and looking back at the board.
by the end of the week you both were miserable.
you stopped waiting by the school entrance, while megan still waited.
she just pretended she wasn’t
yoonchae and sophia watched from afar, witnessing this horrid plan that they accidentally set off.
“she looks like a kicked puppy,” sophia whispered to manon, nodding towards your figure as you walked across the courtyard.
“yikes, when do you think the idiots will finally realize they can't take this?” manon asked, as dani let out a light chuckle at the situation.
yoonchae rolled her eyes, “who knows could take decades, not exactly the brightest bunch.”
while you looked like a kicked puppy, megan also didn’t look… good.
megan walked towards the group that was observing you, her head hung low.
“you know y/n looks like someone took away her only pride and joy in life?” lara said, gesturing towards how you were staring off into nothingness.
megan didn’t look.
she couldn’t.
only a faint murmur could be heard, “good.”
her tails drooped.
“that did not sound convincing,” yoonchae said.
“i hate this,” megan whispered. “but it’s the only way she’ll like me. when i’m normal and mysterious.”
“you are none of those things babes,” sophia replied, poking the girl.
later on in the day, you finally had a conversation with your friends. deciding that you would rather wallow in misery in the presence of others.
“just talk to her!” manon begged.
“she clearly doesn’t want to talk to me,” you said, poking at your plate.
“she waited outside your class for like 20 minutes yesterday,” dani said.
“maybe she was waiting for someone else.”
as you said that, yoonchae and sophia approached the table.
“you both are idiots,” yoonchae sighed.
“whatever let me wallow.” you said before dropping your head on the table.
what broke you was when you saw megan talking to someone else.
laughing and smiling in the way she used to when she was with you.
you chest hurt in a way that didn’t make sense.
“why do i care. she can do whatever she wants. i guess she moved on,” you thought.
so you moved on too.
kinda.
guess she moved on, you thought.
so you did too.
kind of.
you stopped trying.
no snacks. no compliments. no sitting next to her. you kept your head down and told yourself that she didn’t like you anymore.
megan noticed immediately.
“why isn’t she trying anymore… why isn’t she looking at me?”
megan thought this was supposed to hurt less.
it did not.
by the next week, megan cracked.
she found you sitting on the rooftop with your knees pulled up to your chest and tears streaming down your rosy cheeks.
“hi,” she said, voice too quiet in comparison to her usual loud and happy tone.
you looked up a bit startled, not expecting to see her out of anyone. “oh, hi megan.”
no nickname.
that hurt.
megan couldn’t control what she said next as it all came tumbling out of her mouth, “this was a stupid plan, i’m sorry i was ignoring you and pretending i didnt want you around and i hated every second of it! i never lost feelings for you i like you so much that it hurts to not be around you-”
she continued to ramble as you looked at her fondly.
there was the loser you remembered.
“-and i know this isn’t an excuse for how i’ve been acting and i totally understand if you are upset-” before she could continue you started laughing.
“oh? uh, wait i think i missed something why are we laughing?” megan asked, feeling awkward.
“i liked you because you tried meimei,” you said, “i was just too scared, i’m sorry too.”
megan stared at you.
then her tails exploded out from under her jacket and began wagging so hard she almost fell over.
“you like me?” she blurted before regretting not thinking of a cooler line to say.
you smiled, “yeah. i was stupid for not telling you sooner.”
she plopped down next to you, her shoulder bumping into yours. “nah, i was the stupid one.”
“let’s just agree we were both stupid hm?”
“some would say a match made in heaven,” megan grinned, her tails still swaying back and fourth at a speed that could rival sonic.
okay so like… I NEED A FREAKING PART TWO OF MAFIA DANI??? ITS SO GOOD HELLO?—?!?-!?
THANK YOUU omg when i wrote it i was just having a fun time and didn't expect ppl to like it as much as they did

Accidentally kidnapping the mafia boss | Daniela Avanzini
summary: one wrong move and suddenly you hit someone with your car, take them home, and now are accused of a kidnapping?

note: merry early christmas may your holidays be filled with nothing but the best! i like how i said i’d be active then i died mb guys i make a lot of false promises SPEAKING OF FALSE PROMISES I HAVE REQUESTS I STILL HAVEN’T FINISHED FROM AUGUST AND I’M SO SORRY I WILL DO THEM I SWEAR I JUST NEED TO ACTUALLY SIT DOWN AND FINISH THEM. yo sorry for what u abt to read idek what this is
the artificial lights in the office flickered overhead as you slammed the desk drawer shut. 3 months of work gone in an instant as your superior had taken the credit for it.
what a bitch.
trying to keep your cool as you stormed out of the office, you made your way into the empty parking lot as everyone was invited to after work drinks to celebrate the boss’ new successful project.
of course you were invited but you weren’t going to stand there watching as everyone praised that lazy ass man for work he didn’t even give a second thought in doing.
“he’ll pay for this,” you muttered, jaw clenched tight as you had to fight your 5th crashout of the day, “i’ll kill him.”
the familiar sound of your favourite song filled the car (perhaps “next morning i will” by dogs ear), as you backed out of the parking lot, tires screeching against the asphalt.
lost in your thoughts of anger and resentment, a figure darted from the shadows far too quick for you to react, slamming on the breaks too late. you could only close your eyes in horror as you heard the sickening thud of something hitting your car.
“fuck! please just be a deer or like a really fat squirrel,” you pleaded to no one in particular as you got out of your car.
to your absolute horror, a woman lay crumpled on the pavement, blood oozing from her forehead.
okay no need to panic, no way she’s dead. right?
you knelt beside her as you checked for life, she was alive. thank god that could’ve been so bad.
a groan was heard from the ground as the woman began to stir.
“ma’am i am so so so sorry i hit you with my car i’ll call an ambulance for you!” you shouted, while trying to keep her from moving, you didn’t want her to possibly have a spine injury and get paralyzed.
“no. no hospital. no ambulance. just let me lay here for a bit i’ll be okay,” she managed to groan out before fully passing out.
now what the hell do you do now? maybe she doesn’t have insurance. obviously you can’t leave her here, but you can’t just take her to the hospital either.
i guess theres only one logical solution…
load her into the back of your trunk and take her home.
back in your cramped apartment, you managed to get her situated on the couch, albeit poorly as she looked like she was half haphazardly thrown there as her arms and legs dangled off the edge.
before you could address her injuries a short figure approached you, meowing almost as if she was scolding you.
“yoonchae go away, we have a guest that may or may not be allergic,” you said as you tried to shoo the cat away.
a white fluffy cat walked over to you and began pawing at your leg.
“i’ll feed you in a moment i promise,” you pleaded before she let out an unimpressed meow and left you alone.
you turned your attention back on the curly haired woman who was currently sprawled on your couch, her skin sprinkled with lacerations and bruises. it appeared like she was in the middle of a fight with someone, that or your car hit her a little too good.
you reached for the first aid kit you kept in your cabinets, cleaning and dressing the wounds before you finally saw it.
the glint of a gold necklace hidden beneath the fabric of her shirt, with a very familiar insignia.
shit you just kidnapped the mafia boss.
instantly your blood ran cold as you finally recognized the woman in front of you from that news broadcast that played in the background of a coffee shop.
“breaking news! extremely dangerous, do not approach. wanted for 19 counts of homicide, money laundering…”
you had tuned out the rest because you burnt your tongue on the coffee you were attempting to drink. but maybe if you hadn’t you would've realized how much trouble you just got yourself into.
before you could even think of a plan to not end up murdered and found in a ditch by the end of this, a groan was heard from under you.
“fuck… where am i?” a raspy voice cut through your thoughts as you watched in horror as she stirred on the couch.
panic surged through you, drowning out all rational thoughts.
“oh my god i’m dead aren’t i? she’s gonna kill me holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit!” you whisper shouted to yourself.
without thinking straight you reached for the closest object, a lamp, and brought it crashing down onto her head as hard as you could. you watched in further horro as her body slumped back into the couch.
“yoonchae don’t look at me like that i just committed a crime and will probably get murdered by the mafia before the police arrest me.” you wailed in defeat as yoonchae jumped onto the unconscious woman’s body.
“chae get away, she could hurt you!,” you scolded the cat as it began to make itself comfortable on the unconscious woman’s lap, purring quietly. momentarily remembering that you just hit that woman with a lamp.
“holy shit i’m so screwed. i hit her with a frickin lamp and now i’m gonna have a hit put out on me, okay i got this i got this,” you weren’t known to do the best underpressure.
when you were younger, your father asked you to pick out a gift for your teacher but you spent 15 minutes stressing over if she would prefer a gift card or something more specific like a fluffy blanket.
snapping out of the memory, you rummaged around in your drawers before finding zip ties and struggled to put them on the girl as your hands shook.
“this is actually starting to feel like i really did plan to kidnap her,” you looked at yoonchae who only gave you a slow blink. maybe she was listening, probably not though.
once finishing tying her up, you stood back to really look at what you did.
yes the ziptie was like half falling off but what are the chances she even wakes up, who knows maybe your lamp put her in a coma.
okay so, not the best you could’ve done but for this being the first person you’ve ever tied up you deserve some applause. the next thing you did was probably the most rational,
google everything that had to do with the mafia.
the glow of your laptop lit up your face in the darkness of your room, fearing that turning on the lights might wake up the extremely deadly person on the couch.
now how the fuck is there nothing on this woman except the crimes she committed??? you’d think a famous mafia boss that the fbi is looking to track down would have i don’t know maybe just a sprinkle of more information.
“haha maybe it’s because she kills everyone before they can report on her, hahaha wouldn’t that be funny isn’t that funny hahaha i’m so dead.” you laughed to yourself before breaking out into another nervous sweat.
after a few hours you were able to compile a short list of what information you gathered:
she is the leader of the most dangerous mafia group
everyone that comes across her fucking dies
YOU ARE SO DEAD WHEN SHE WAKES UP HOLY SHIT AHHHH
you somehow were able to drift off into sleep on your desk, reassuring yourself that your restraints would be able to hold her back surely.
dollar store zip ties can definitely save you from a murderer.
you felt something staring at you as you woke up, you began to open your eyes forgetting the events of yesterday.
“yoonchae get out of my face, i’ll feed you in a moment,” you murmured out before trying to get more comfortable on the table, before it hit you like a train.
maybe that's why there’s something held uncomfortably close to your neck as you opened your eyes to be met with the woman you practically ran over yesterday.
“hello there, would you mind telling me who you are before i kill you?” she said in a cocky manner.
“ah shit.”
who’s gonna feed yoonchae if you’re dead now?
your heart started beating way too fast for it’s own good, similar to prey when they run from a predator. except in your case there's nowhere to run.
“uhh.. hi my name’s y/n nice to meet you?” you choked out, before gesturing to the cat watching the both of you at the door of the room. “that’s yoonchae. she’s my cat” you gestured to the seemingly unamused cat who somehow had the look of disappointment on her face.
“meow.” yoonchae replied as if introducing herself to the guest.
the woman could only stifle a laugh, how could a girl like you kidnap her?
“interesting choice of company,” she joked, despite actively holding a knife against your throat.
you could only muster up a weak smile, “she’s a good listener,” you quipped, hoping to somehow make it out alive.
“i’ll keep that in mind,” she said, chuckling softly. the sound of her laughter made you want to hear it over and over again.
“since you introduced yourself, it’s only fair i do so too. my name is daniela, but you can call me dani. i would say it’s nice meeting you too but under these circumstances i believe i’m owed an explanation.” her grip on the knife loosened a bit, maybe she wasn’t going to kill you who knows!
you internally groaned as you realized you would have to relive the nightmare that was last night. taking a deep breath, you began to summarize what happened.
“... and that’s when i was like, ‘oh my god i hope it was just a fat squirrel or something!’ but it turned out to be you… ” you continued to ramble on but failed to notice how dani had fully released the knife and was just watching you tell the story.
“so essentially you kidnapped me because you’re a bad driver?” she asked.
you winced at the blunt assessment before nodding slowly, “yeah… um something like that, i’m sorry,”
dani could only shake her head in disbelief as she gave you a pitiful laugh. “i suppose i should be thanking you for saving my life, though i can’t say i’m thrilled about you taking me away from my crew.”
and that's when it finally hit you on how much trouble you just put yourself in. for all you know there was probably someone who watched you place dani into the car before driving away like a crazy person.
before you could voice your concerns, dani spoke up again, her tone full of business. “listen, you owe me for the kidnapping and i owe you for the life saving so how about a compromise?”
just a couple days ago you were licking the yogurt that fell onto your shirt and now you’re making a deal with the mafia.
“what type of compromise?” you asked a bit nervously, not like you really had a choice in refusing it as she could kill you if you were even a bit of a nuisance.
“you let me stay here, lay low for a while, and in return i offer you my services.” she explained, as she approached closer to where you were standing.
you blinked in disbelief, “your services?” you repeated, your mind racing with… let’s just say not the cleanest thoughts.
“yeah, you think kidnapping a known mafia boss wouldn’t land a big target on your back? you’re gonna need some protection baby,” she purred and you could swear you felt your knees go weak or something because what the hell.
you just nodded quickly, “yeah okay deal,” were the fastest words you have ever spoken to someone.
dani could only laugh at your reaction, “seems like you and me are gonna get to know each other a lot better.”
ironing out some of the details, dani would be out of the apartment in 2 weeks. which means your life would hopefully return back to normal.
but that also meant not being able to see the human equivalent to a god grace you with her presence…
but is that a risk worth taking as you could be targeted by rival mafias in the area?
dani turned to look at you from the couch as she sat there watching the local news, her hair slightly messy, wearing some of your pyjamas from your closet.
all of a sudden any cohesive thoughts from your brain were gone.
what risk? there's a risk? nah it’s probably fine!
“um let me know if i can help you with anything,” you said, maybe she’ll like you more and stay around. or at least in touch right? a girl can dream.
“it’s cute you think you can help me hermosa,” she teased, “but i appreciate the sentiment.”
your cheeks flushed with embarrassment, yeah the mafia boss probably doesn’t need help from a middle class 9-5 office worker with a judgmental cat.
elsewhere…
in a dimly lit interior of a warehouse near the outskirts of the city, people were scrambling at their feet.
“face it she’s gone!” megan shouted, plopping into a chair as she put her face into her hands.
from behind her, sophia started to console her, “relax, manon said she’ll be able to find where she is by the end of tomorrow, boss can hold her own.”
“yeah, plus it gives us time to ready ourselves. whoever did this must be dangerous, good thing i don’t care!” lara said as she carried duffle bags filled with gear on each arm.
sophia started walking to lara, helping her with a bag. “well you heard the lady, time to prepare for battle. oh and don’t be afraid to get blood on your hands this time.”
“says you, you screamed when dani caught you with her hair extensions singing and dancing.” megan teased with a pointing finger.
lara stifled a laugh as sophia defended herself, “that was a private moment!”
the next day came as you couldn’t help but squeal at the sight of yoonchae snuggling up to dani.
“are you sure you’re a mafia boss? you seem more like a cat lady, she really does like you a lot,” you said as you pulled out your phone to take photos.
“well then i guess i’ll just have to take her with me,” dani replied, touching her nose with the cats.
“no she loves me too i swear, she just has a weird was of showing it! all she does is slowly blink at me but that’s like her way of saying i love you please don’t take my cat away scary mafia lady!” you started to ramble again, whenever you got nervous you tended to ramble.
dani started laughing at your silly behaviour again, “relax, i wouldn’t dare to dream of taking yoonch away. if anything this just means i’ll have to move in with the both of you. i mean somebody’s got to take care of this pretty kitty while i’m gone.”
you could tell she was joking but a small (extremely massive) part of you wanted it to be true.
suddenly a ring at your doorbell could be heard, followed by a voice shouting “delivery!”
dani stood up quickly, placing the cat behind her as her suspicions grew.
“did you order anything?” she asked.
you couldn’t actually remember, oh maybe it was that thing you ordered that one time?
“uhhh maybe it’s the thing i ordered that one time?” you said, unsure if you actually provided any information.
dani rolled her eyes, “you don’t say?”
ignoring the blatant sarcasm you walk and open the door, not seeing anyone. probably just some kids pulling a prank.
as you went to close the door a knife flew past your head, impaling itself on the wall behind you.
before you could even scream in terror, a body tackles you to the ground and a knife is held to your throat.
“where is she?” a girl with pink streaks in her hair said.
a laugh could be heard from somewhere else in the room, “megs maybe look a little to your right?” a trio of women walked into the room wearing black suits.
megan turned to the right only to see dani standing with an amused look on her face, as sophia, manon, and lara looked at her with a disappointed look.
“WAHHH DANI YOU’RE OKAY I WAS SO WORRIED!” megan immediately leaped off of you and ran at daniela with open arms, however dani sidestepped, causing megan to land right on your couch next to yoonchae instead.
the cat couldn’t be bothered with your shenanigans.
“boss, we’ve got orders backed up since you got… whatever this arrangement is i don’t want to know.” lara said, gesturing to the broken zip ties on the floor and how dani was wearing your clothing.
dani’s cheeks flushed a light pink colour, “it’s not what it looks like!” she nervously put her hands up in surrender.
this was nothing like the confident person you knew just a moment ago, but it was cute to see her finally off that high horse.
“yeah yeah whatever, we’ve got orders to complete so if we could get moving that would be great!” sophia said as she started escorting everyone out of your apartment.
megan looked at the knife in your wall for a moment, before pulling it out and patting the wall as if that would fix the hole that was left there now.
“sorry about the wall, uhhh dani will reimburse you i’m sure of it!” she said as she darted out of the apartment.
dani looked at the scene confused, “what i am not giving her any money,”
manon looked at dani with knowing eyes, “oh because you’re gonna repay her in another way huh?” before winking and running after megan.
you could feel your cheeks heat up, before you looked at your flooring. wow who knew wooden floors could be so interesting.
“we’ll be out of your hair now ms. y/l/n,” sophia said before giving yoonchae a pat on the head and making her way out the apartment with lara.
as dani made her way out the door, she turned around with her cheeks tinted pink, “um let’s see each other again soon?”
“yeah that would be nice.” you smiled before she turned back around and the door closed.
hm maybe it wasn’t so bad kidnapping a mafia boss.

your ears perking up and immediately flattening on your head, trying to make themselves invisible but you know the damage is already done.
you ran away before you could see her reaction.
it wasn't always like this. the fear of being discovered didn’t always loom over your head.
“don’t stray off the path, and whatever you do, do not trust the big bad wolf,” your mother called out, as a little girl hurried out of the house to get to her grandmother’s.
you were always a rambunctious child, never wanting to listen to authority figures. ever since your grandmother taught you how to play gin rummy you’d beg and plead to visit. finally finding an excuse to bring over some cinnamon toast rolls and lollipop corn to your sick grandmother, you hurried on her way.
it wasn’t your fault that you strayed off the path, you saw a caterpillar chasing a butterfly. it was just so interesting and then there were the flowers that you thought your grandmother would appreciate, not to mention a stray wolf you saw. but hey, you eventually got to grandma’s house.
approaching the cottage in the woods, you notice the door wasn’t closed but left ajar. pushing it open further, you could only start rambling about your day to your grandmother, far too excited to notice anything different.
“grandmother it's me! i brought cinnamon toast rolls and lollipop corn just like ya like!” you started talking, placing the basket down by her bedside table as you saw her figure lay in bed. “all the good stuff that's gonna help you heal because i know you're not feeling well, there was a bunch of broth but i dumped it.”
“oh? okay dearie you dumped all the broth?” a voice that sounded similar enough to your grandmother replied. the sickness must be affecting her throat.
you didn't think much of it as you continued walking around the room reenacting your travels, “yep it was weighing me down and i needed space so i dumped it in a river”
your grandma seemed to go along with your silliness just like she always did, “so you took the broth halfway? found a river and said ‘this is where the broth goes?’”
“umm.. yeah! but i picked up fresh flowers on the way?” you tried justifying.
“i hope you didn’t stray off the path to get them,” your grandmother said, although there it was again. that strange voice that sounded just like your grandma but not quite.
you brushed it off, she was just sick of course. but as you turn your head to actually look at your grandmother, you notice grandma is looking a little funny. her ears are larger than normal.
“grandma? your ears are honkin’ big,” you say in a joking manner.
but her reply doesn’t match your tone, it was something eerie, unsettling. “better to hear you my dear.”
you can’t help what comes out of your mouth next, “haha.. um grandma, your teeth are really big…”
“all the better to eat you with…” she replies.
“what?”
you watch as your grandmother sits up in the bed, as the sheets, the cap, all of it falls away and somehow without the cottage getting bigger, you see a wolf that towers in the space. its gaze is completely neutral as it stares at you.
it sits on the bed, there's a hum in the air as if something was missing. although it said it would eat you, it made no moves in doing so.
“i.. what happened to my grandma,” as tears welled in your eyes, forcing them back to seem more intimidating.
“i’ve eaten her.” it simply replied, as if talking about the weather or some other trivial topic.
“why?”
“i am a wolf.”
you are only 11, you couldn't process what had happened. the fact that grandma was gone and wasn’t coming back, the tragedy of the situation doesn't hit you as you fire back angrily, “well the woodsman is going to come along, and show you the sharpest side of his axe!”
so you stand there waiting, hours turn into days as you stand waiting for someone, anyone to help. maybe grandma would come back and this was just some sick prank your siblings were playing on you.
but no one ever came.
as time passed, you stood shaking, on the verge of passing out. the lack of water and food was getting to you. but still as ever, the wolf sat on the bed, its gaze fixed on you.
“you are dying.” it stated. staring you down as you wobbled from side to side, your energy rapidly fading.
“no. i’m just waiting” you stated stubbornly.
the wolf could only stare at your paling figure, “if you do not eat, you will die. this is the law”
“what would you have me do?” you mumbled, you were losing hope slowly, maybe you were destined to die here.
the wolf sighed, and turned to look at the fireplace. “go to the fireplace and pick up the axe, come to the foot of the bed, raise up the axe, and split my skull. when i am dead, eat my flesh, and you will be strong enough to wander the woods on your own and return home.”
you could only let our a half hazarded scoff, “thats.. ridiculous, i dont even think i could lift up an axe. no i wont, i cant!”
“the woodsman is not coming.” the wolf argued.
you couldn’t accept that, not now. not after waiting for so long. “he often comes by, i’m sure of it, he’ll be here!”
“i told you, my teeth were made to eat you.”
you let out a frustrated huff, “so just eat me! just eat me and get it over with!”
“it is not your time.” it stated calmly.
“So it's my grandma's time and not my time?!” you shot back.
“yes.”
“well. i don't trust you because everyone told me not to trust you, so then what you say isn't true and the woodsman is coming”, you turn your back to the wolf, walking closer to the window as you look into the woods.
because of hunger, it's a blur, the trees and grass blend together. as you stand there waiting by the window for a woodsman that would never come, what was left of that snarky child that was full of life, was reduced to nothing but hunger.
a strong, overwhelming sense of hunger.
as only instinct takes over, as you pick up the axe. a moment of hesitation washes over you as once you do this, there's no coming back from it.
but the thoughts get drowned out by the rumbling sound in your stomach, heaving the axe over, your eyes empty, as you split the wolf’s skull and consume its flesh.
in the moment before the axe comes down, the wolf lowers its head, ears pressed against its skull as its eyes close as if accepting the outcome.
your hands and teeth tear into the wolf’s body, your face covered in blood as there's something now running through your veins.
you can't recall what happens after, but you remember going back to your home where your mother and siblings await.
you know there are people inside, you can smell them, but the door is locked. even as you try and turn the knob, it won’t budge.
it's the middle of the night and here you stand, outside the front door of your house, tapping lighting on the window. your red cloak draped over your head as you now attempt to hide your newly sprouted ears.
“mom.. mom..” you whisper shout, but no one answers.
you tap harder, leaving scratches on the windows from your claws.
“mom? mom it’s me, i'm back, something really bad happened to grandma.” you shout a bit louder.
“get away from here!” your mother shouts back.
you stand there frozen for a second, why was mom treating you this way?
“mom if you could just let me in, i’ll explain everything!” you pleaded, you were scared. the forest behind you only appeared to be getting darker by the second.
“i’m sorry that i strayed from the path, you were right and there were grave consequences. is the door barred because i can’t-”
before you could finish your sentence the voice of your mother pierced your ears again.
“i don’t know what you are. but my daughter is dead!”
“no she’s not shes right here please mom.”
“wear her skin all you like, but i know, look at you!”
you see that a hand held mirror is held up to the window, your reflection finally being seen. you notice the way your eyes glow a dangerous yellow, how the claws on your hands and furry ears in your head stick out from your cloak.
you hiss in reaction, something about it making you angry.
“mom i think there's just been a misunderstanding please, i’m sorry. it was my fault… grandma is dead, i dont have anywhere to go if not here and it feels like the door is barred and i can’t get in and…” you pause, “i don’t know what i’ll try to do if i can’t get in. mom, please i’m scared.”
you hear a voice from inside, “we know that the wolf can wear the clothes of others, we know that it can mimic their voice. our only hope is that the woodsman will come”
you feel rage suddenly fill your body, “but the woodsman never comes, don’t count on the fucking woodsman.” you spit out.
for that moment you lost yourself, you quickly regained your composure. “i’m sorry i cursed, i’m so sorry. please mom.” you were getting desperate.
“alright, alright… don't hurt us, don't do anything to the home. come to the door and i will let you in.”
you felt relief for the first time in weeks, you dust yourself off, the dirt and debris that clung onto your cloak not letting go. you try to make yourself more presentable but accidentally add a tear to your cloak. you’re stronger than you remember.
“it’s fine i can fix it, i can fix it.” you think to yourself.
the door unlocks as you walk in, the lights are off, you can't seem to see anyone.
taking another step into the house, a silver blade impales itself into your shoulder.
“mom? who threw that?” you shout, scared, you panicked not knowing where to look. you couldn’t see anything.
but you could smell them.
“run! run out the backdoor!” your mothers voice could be heard shouting to your siblings.
this was a trap, the blade was meant to peirce you in the heart. coming to that realization you feel anger start to boil within you, an uncontrollable rage.
“you lured me in with your own love? you fucking scam of a woman.” you shouted, not recognizing your own voice anymore.
you slowly stalk towards your mother, her hiding figure behind the dinner table. the table that was set with one less plate.
you flip the table, a growl coming from your throat, “did you have a nice dinner? a nice dinner while you thought i was dead? if i was so dead then where is my headstone!?”
you remember your claws extending and your bones breaking in unnatural positions, the hair on your back growing to spread across your body as you tripled in size.
you shake the memories away not wanting to remember what happened after, its been a year since then. you wander the forests, your ears and tail still sticking out of your cloak, the same red cloak your grandmother gifted you.
it still had the rip in it from that night.
there was a bright side though, something that you could look forward to. there was a shepherd girl that was often bored, she’d randomly shout “there’s a wolf! there's a wolf!” so often that the village grew sick of her jokes.
sometimes you would just watch from afar, watching as she would lead the sheep to a fresher patch of grass, or pet them and whisper sweet nothings into their ears.
you didn't think she’d ever notice you, but spotting a red cloak in a forest of green was never that hard.
“hey! you there!” she called out, startling you out from behind the tree.
you froze, not knowing what to do. you didn’t want to hurt anyone, not after everything that happened.
“don’t think i can’t see you, come out right this instant!” she commanded, although she was only 12, she spoke with a tone you couldn’t ignore.
you pulled your hood over your head to cover your ears, and tucked your tail into your pants, making you seem “normal” as you walked out from the forest.
you stand awkwardly in the clearing, arms stiff at your sides, hood pulled so low that you can barely see past 2 feet in front of you. the shepherd girl marches straight up to you, hands on her hips, like she’s not even a little scared of the stranger lurking in the woods.
“why are you creeping in the woods? you know you are terrible at it, the red totally gives you away.” she points at your cloak.
your mouth goes dry. you haven’t talked to anyone for months, your tongue feels foreign as you try to speak.
“i wasn’t- i wasn’t creeping,” you stammer as heat crawled up your neck.
she circles you once, squinting in mock suspicion. “well! i’m sophia.” she sticks out her hand. “and you are?”
you open your mouth to answer, to say your name, but it comes out as more of a mumble of noises than any words.
sophia blinks. “um, once again i don’t think i caught that.”
you try again, somehow even quieter.
she snorts. “okay yeah, i didn’t catch a single syllable of that. soooo~” her eyes sparkle, “i’m just gonna call you y/n/n. nice cloak you got!”
your cloak. your grandmother’s cloak.
her hand reaches toward you, fingers brushing the frayed edge of the tear, the tear from that night, and she frowns softly. “it’s ripped here, i can fix this if you-”
you yank the fabric away so fast your hood nearly flies off your head.
she jumps back, hands raised immediately. “woah! i’m sorry. i wasn’t gonna ruin it or anything.”
your heart pounds, your ears flatten against your head, hidden under your hood, but sophia just gives you a small, apologetic smile. like she’s not scared of you. like she’s not suspicious. like she just wants to help.
and for some reason, that makes you stay.
the days blur together after that.
sophia decides you are friends, she drags you through fields filled with waist high grass, challenging you to races you always win but pretend to lose. she shows you how to weave flower crowns, though yours always come out lopsided and she insists they have “wabi sabi”. whatever that might mean.
sometimes she catches you looking at her and smiles like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
for the first time in a long time, you feel something warm in your chest that isn’t hunger.
the only thing that was an issue lately was the sheep.
the sheep hated you.
the moment you come even a step closer, they bolt in the opposite direction. bleating and panicking, as if they were shouting for their lives.
you would be lying if you said they didn’t look appetizing at times.
“wow,” sophia says with her hands on her hips. “they really don’t like you. they’re usually only this dramatic when they see thunder or like a wolf.”
you shrink into your cloak. “maybe.. they’re just skittish.”
“yeah. probably.” she shrugs, tossing a handful of hay toward them. “they’re weirdos.”
as the seasons changed, your cloak would get caught on bushes and sticks as sophia chased you around. you always ensured that your cloak stayed pulled up, your tail tucked in. even when it started wagging frantically at the sight of sophia.
how would it not?
sophia smells like sheep, grass, sunshine, everything and anything good you could possibly think of.
you smell like…
you pull your cloak tighter against your body.
nevermind what you smell like.
it was just a regular day, sitting under a tree as you both looked into the field of dandelions. at times like these you forgot about the tail that begged to be free and the ears that hid themselves shamefully under your cloak.
“why do you have this cloak all the time? let me try it on!” sophia teased as she pulled the cloak off of you.
your ears perking up and immediately flattening on your head, trying to make themselves invisible but you know the damage is already done.
you can’t breathe. can’t think. can’t stay.
not again.
not again not again not again-
you ran away before you could see her reaction.
before she could shout and look at you in disgust, you rip yourself away from her grasp, sprinting into the trees. your cloak snags on a root but you don’t stop, you don’t dare stop.
your cloak tears free and slips off your shoulders entirely, falling onto the dirt behind you. from afar you swear you could hear a voice shout, “wolf! there’s a wolf!”
man you just mess everything up.
it was as if something compelled her to shout.
“wolf! there’s a wolf!” sophia shouted, running in the opposite direction towards her sheep.
her mother came running out of the cottage, to find her little girl running towards her frantically.
“mom there was a wolf! i-” she was going to tell her mom that you were the wolf but, she stopped.
she almost said it was her, the girl in the forest.
she almost said it was you.
sophia’s mother only looked at her disappointingly, “i thought you grew out of this, stop lying about a wolf when there isn’t one.”
sophia stared at the ground, fists clenched in her dress.
“…okay,” she whispered.
and it hurt. because for the first time, she wasn’t lying.
sophia stood at the forest’s edge long after you’ve disappeared, your cloak in her hand as she looks into the forest. the same forest that she first saw you in.
except this time you weren’t there.
the forest only stared back.
empty.
cold.
too quiet.
that night she sat by the fireplace in her cottage, her mother asking why she was up so late.
“i’m just fixing something up for a… friend.” sophia mumbled, avoiding the gaze of her mother as she continued sewing the cloak, repairing the tear from all those nights ago.
she tied off the last thread and brushed her thumb over the seam.
“i’m sorry,” she whispered to the empty room.
not just for the cloak.
for shouting.
for freezing.
for pushing you away.
the day after the incident you had found yourself waking up next to a tree somewhere in the forest, trying to get lost. to never find your way back to her. to never risk hurting her.
but there was this pull that always led you back to the edge of the forest. to the same edge where you met her.
and there you found your red cloak on the ground, with a note laid on top.
“i haven’t told a soul it was you, i’m sorry.”
you stood there frozen as tears welled up in your eyes. she had fixed the rips and tears that had accumulated over the past year.
sophia was your first and only friend.
and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss her.
you drape the cloak around your shoulders and for the first time you don't lift the hood up to cover your ears. it somehow feels warmer than before as you wrap it tighter around you.
it smells like her.
okay no need to be creepy. you think to yourself, shaking your head.
but there’s just something that always drags you back to the same spot you met all those months ago.
the next morning, sophia stands at her window with sleep in her eyes
she expects nothing.
she expects empty.
she expects the same quiet ache she’s been waking up with ever since you disappeared.
but instead she sees the red hue of your cloak, staring back at her from the forest.
not imagined.
not remembered.
real.
her breath catches. her heart forgets how to beat.
“y/n/n,” she whispers.
and before she had time to think she took off running. barefoot and breathless but with the biggest smile on her face.
“Y/N/N I THOUGHT YOU LEFT FOREVER!” she shouts before lunging herself onto you, leading you both crashing into the ground.
you could only stare up at her as you saw the tears well up in her eyes and fall onto your face.
“hey watch it!” you angrily but you both know there's no malice behind your words.
sophia started crying before she even realized she was doing it.
“i’m sorry,” she sobbed into your shoulder, the words spilling out broken and fast. “i’m sorry, i’m sorry, i’m sorry.”
you tried to answer her, but your voice refused to obey you. all you could do was hold her and cry into her hair, clinging to her in a desperate, silent way that said everything your mouth could not.
then the forest filled with voices.
sophia froze instantly, her body going unbearably tense in your arms as someone shouted her name from beyond the trees. you heard it too, you already knew what was going to happen.
big bad wolves don't get happy endings.
your ears pressed flat against your head without you even thinking about it, and your tail curled tightly around your leg.
sophia stood quickly and moved in front of you before you could even think to stop her. her small body drew itself up like it meant to shield you from the entire world.
when her mother emerged from the trees with several others behind her, the relief in her face vanished the moment she saw you.
“get away from it,” her mother cried, her expression filled with disgust as she could see your ears. someone behind her muttered that you weren’t human. another demanded where the woodsman was so he could chop off your head.
you reached out for sophia one last time, a slight tug at her wrist. not because you wanted to take her with you, but because you wanted to look at her one last time, to pretend like there wasn’t an angry mob of villagers waiting to behead you.
you turned and ran into the forest that had taken you in once before, disappearing into the darkness that had always claimed creatures like you in the end.
behind you, sophia screamed your name.
this was one of the times you wished you didn't have keen hearing, because her shouts for you followed you into the forest.
maybe in another story, you would get your fairy tale happy ending.

on the outskirts of the walled kingdom was a pointed tower covered in moss, from afar it looked like an abandoned building as it was surrounded by forests that stretched on for miles.
but to all the citizens they knew it as the prison that held the princess, the dungeon in which a fierce and powerful dragon protects with its life. over the years, many knights claiming to be the “chosen one” have gone to defeat the beast, but none have returned successful.
“fuck it’s closing in on us, watch out!” a knight covered in iron armour shouted to his companions before ducking behind a tree, narrowly avoiding a blast of fire.
the ground shook as claws dug into the dirt, causing small cracks throughout the floor. the dragon stalked towards the “brave” knights, wings unfolding in one sharp motion.
“hold steady!” their captain barked, though his sword hand trembled. “it can’t be invincible-”
he didn’t get to finish before you blasted him, sparks igniting his shield and forcing him back. the smell of scorched metal and charred leather filled the air. yummy maybe you’ll be back to snack on that metal later.
one knight lunged, managing to slice you pretty good in the side of your leg. you growled low in your throat, smoke spilling out of your nostrils, before swinging your tail at him. the knight flew into a tree with a sickening crack, leaving his helmet broken.
panic rippled through the group. another tried to flank you, but you turned around swiping at them. blood smeared the grass and the faint scent of iron clung to the air. you’d never kill any of them, just maim or seriously injure them. sophia would kill you if you killed, and you weren’t trying to get killed anytime soon.
“retreat!” someone finally yelled. “it’s not a dragon but a demon!”
and just like that, the knights scrambled, dragging their injured back toward the kingdom walls. their footsteps faded until the forest was quiet except for the occasional crackle of fire from the trees.
with a huff you shook your head, ash falling from your snout.
“idiots,” you thought, smoke coming out of your nose as you happily walked back to the tower.
you’d think after your countless threats of gobbling up their whole family, or knocking down the weak walls they use as “protection” with a single blast, they wouldn’t come anymore but it only seemed to make them want to kill you even more.
shifting back into your humanoid self with a swaying black tail, some wings on your back, and little dragon ears on top, you skipped your way back into the tower.
there was a trail of blood that followed you as your leg was slashed by a sword during the fight, leaving your skipping to look more like hobbling than anything. it’s not like it hurt either, especially because you had the best doctor waiting at home for you.
sure you were upset about having to be portrayed as the “scary dragon” again, but there was one thing that never failed to cheer you up.
stepping into the tower you shout with your arms open, “pia they hurt me!” making sure to shed some crocodile tears to make it seem a bit worse than it really was.
and there she was, your beautiful girlfriend, running towards you with a face full of concern. maybe it was mean that you were exaggerating the injury but you just adored it when she coddled you.
“are you okay? where does it hurt mahal?” sophia said while checking you from head to toe, eyes full of worry.
“i’m okay haha i just wanted to see your reaction!” you said
the princess shoved your shoulder playfully, though she smiled despite her worry. “hey! don’t scare me like that.”
but then her eyes caught the cut on your leg, the one you hadn’t been able to fully hide from her. her smile dropped. “sit down.”
you froze under and plopped onto the nearest chair, tail swishing nervously behind you. sophia disappeared into the corner and came back with a bandage roll, kneeling down with all the seriousness of an actual doctor.
“i’m fine really,” you grumbled, though your tail betrayed you, curling around her wrist like it couldn’t help but seek her touch. “they just keep saying they’re gonna save you,” your ears pinned back as you scowled, “like i’d ever let them take you away.”
sophia’s hands paused briefly on your leg before she gave a soft laugh. “oh no scary~, the big bad dragon doesn’t want her princess stolen.”
“exactly!” you huffed, puffing your cheeks out. your tail swished angrily, smacking the floor a couple times. but when she leaned forward to press a kiss to your leg after wrapping the bandage, you melted instantly, ears flicking up and tail wagging like a dog.
fine, maybe you weren’t the big bad scary dragon you pretended to be. the kingdom could headcannon you all they wanted to but to sophia? you were nothing more but a softie with a big heart who’d do anything for her.
once sophia was satisfied with her work and went to tidy up the supplies, you muttered something about needing the washroom and slipped away.
inside, you closed the door and faced the mirror on the wall.
“okay,” you whispered, straightening your back, “scary. you’re supposed to be scary.”
you widened your eyes, baring your teeth in what you hoped was a menacing snarl. you flared your nostrils, added a puff of smoke, and even curled your fingers up for emphasis.
…then you dropped the act with a groan, ears going limp.
“ugh sophia’s right. this isn’t scary at all.” you grumbled while trying to think of what being “scary” looked like.
you tried again, scrunching your nose, pulling your lips back farther, practicing different kinds of roars and expressions. eventually you managed one that almost looked cool, until you spotted your own sharp canines in the glass.
you paused.
“… okay,” you admitted with a little grin. “the teeth are kind of intimidating.”
you bared them again, testing out a few angles before saying, “rawr?”
from the other side of the door came sophia’s muffled laugh. “i can hear you, you know.”
your ears shot up as your face flushed bright red, “no you can’t! stop spying on me!” you shouted through the door.
day by day there was always a new challenger who thought they could kill you or capture you. the kingdom had placed a bounty on your head so large it made even the most pussy of knights try to challenge you.
you lost count of how many times you’d had to roar at them until their armour rattled off. sometimes you scared them away, sometimes you sent them limping home. it was routine by now. once a group of knights tried to trap you in a fishing net before you scorched their pants off. you thought it was super fun.
sophia on the other hand was getting sick of it.
you were halfway through lighting a knight’s cape on fire when her voice rang out from the tower window.
“guys! i’m not trapped please stop coming here!”
the knight froze, looking up in confusion as you also paused to listen. sophia leaned further out with her arms waving dramatically to gather attention from more knights.
“tell my parents i’ll come back when they stop overreacting! i choose to be here, i'm not kidnapped!”
the knights blinked once, twice, then slowly backed away muttering, “what the hell, sorry then dragon thing i guess…” before disappearing into the woods.
with sophia’s shouting and you burning everything within a couple miles, eventually the flood of warriors trickled down to nothing.
now because the tower was no longer being used as a battle ground, sophia was able to invite her friends over.
you standing behind sophia as she welcomed her friends in, when all of a sudden megan and lara immediately made a beeline for you.
“woahhhh,” megan gasped at your tail, circling you like you were prey. “so cool~ can i touch it?”
"don't," you warned flatly, swishing your tail away only for lara to dart forward and grab it.
“look it’s like scaly” she squealed, dragging your tail towards yoonchae, not noticing how you were attached to it and stumbling behind her
“hey!” you yanked your tail back, ears pinned back.
but they only laughed, poking at your ears next.
“they move when i poke them!” lara giggled.
“of course they move, why wouldn’t they if someone is poking at them!” you barked running back to stand behind sophia.
megan tilted her head. “can you breathe fire?”
you growled. “of course i can breathe fire. what do you think i am? a poser?”
“prove it.”
“i can’t!”
“why?”
“sophia said no fire in the house…” you murmured shyly as you turned your head away from the two, cheeks going pink.
in the corner, yoonchae sat on the couch looking at you with sharp eyes. the look she gave you every time your tail twitched made you feel like maybe you should’ve left the tower for a bit while they visited. but sophia insisted on you meeting them and who are you to refuse her.
as for manon and dani, they were less subtle.
“she must really have taken a liking to our princess,” manon teased sophia, leaning against her shoulder. “she gets all shy whenever she talks about you.”
“so cute,” dani added, grin wide. “our princess bagged a big “scary” dragon.”
“i am scary! ask the countless knights i scared shitless!” you sputtered, tail smacking the floor so hard the wood creaked. “shut up both of you!”
“well if you are that big scary dragon they say you are then we might have to take sophia back to the kingdom where its safe” manon said, putting an arm around sophia.
you instantly wrapped your tail around sophia’s waist and bared your teeth, “no! she only leaves when she wants to, and definitely not in your slimy hands!”
“relax guard dog, she’s just kidding,” yoonchae said, rolling her eyes at you both.
eventually, sophia’s friends started visiting the tower often enough that you found yourself opening up to them, whether you wanted to or not.
it all started one afternoon when you caught sight of yoonchae being chased through the woods by a group of older kids. they were laughing, mocking her, tugging at her bag as she tried to run.
before you even thought about it, you dropped from the sky, claws digging into the dirt as your roar tore through the trees. the sound shook the branches overhead, fire spilling from your jaws and searing the ground in front of the bullies. they shrieked before stumbling over themselves to escape, leaving yoonchae alone with you.
you flicked your tail, shifting back into your humanoid form. “man whatever happened to friendship is magic.”
then you glanced down at her, awkward suddenly under her wide eyed stare. “uh… you good?”
yoonchae gave the tiniest nod, clutching her bag tighter.
“cool,” you muttered, rubbing the back of your neck. “don’t tell sophia i did that, she’d kill me for scaring children.”
she didn’t answer, but the next time she came to the tower, she sat beside you.
megan and lara in the meanwhile, had taken to invading your personal space like it was a sport. at first, you swatted them away, ears pinned back every time their fingers got too close.
but the more they visited, the more you relaxed. lara started weaving little flowers into your tail when you weren’t paying attention. megan poked your ears to see how they twitched in response, and you only growled halfheartedly before giving up.
“you’re lucky i don’t bite,” you grumbled once, but your tail betrayed you by curling around their legs in lazy contentment.
they just laughed.
as for manon and dani, they never stopped teasing.
“you’re really scary,” dani said with a grin, watching as sophia gently scratched behind your ear. “look at her. terrifying.”
“the way she wags her tail when sophia calls her cute? horrifying,” manon added with mock horror.
you tried to glare, but sophia’s fingers ran your ears flick happily. “shut up,” you mumbled, cheeks burning.
eventually, you got used to the embarrassment.
“looking awfully cozy over there y/n.” dani teased.
“yes i am,” you said proudly, leaning against sophia and wrapping your tail snugly around her waist.
sophia laughed so hard she nearly fell off her chair, while you sat there grinning sharp and smug for once.
it was all going great, finally some peace and quiet.
until they got you.
you weren’t in your dragon form, just your human one with your ears flicking and tail swishing as you picked flowers for sophia outside the tower.
after weeks of no attackers, you were foolish and let your guard down. the ambush came quick as nets weighted with iron, enchanted chains, and a muzzle slammed over your face before you could even blast them.
you thrashed, claws tearing up the ground, but there were too many.
“stop! stop!” sophia’s voice pierced through noise, desperate and furious. she rushed down from the tower, shoving past knights twice her size, her fists hitting against their armour. “let her go! let her go!”
“hold the princess back, clearly she is not in the right state of mind” the captain ordered.
sophia kicked and screamed, clawing at their arms as the king and queen themselves approached you. her mother’s eyes were cold, her father’s jaw set firm as he looked down at your chained form.
you tried to roar, to burn them all, to grab sophia and run, but the muzzle cut off your flames, the chains sapped your strength.
FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.
you strained so hard your muscles burned, smoke bleeding out of your nose as you thrashed against them.
“she’s not dangerous!” sophia screamed, tears spilling as she fought against the knights restraining her. “look at her! she never hurt me, not once! you’re all liars! i hate you!”
the king’s expression faltered, but he didn’t move. “it’s for the best.”
the queen’s voice was softer, almost mournful. “we’re protecting you.”
“protecting me?” sophia’s voice broke, “from the only person who’s ever loved me?”
you were dragged away as she collapsed against the ground, reaching for you as her fingers scraped the floor.
the jail cell stank of blood and rust. yours mostly. the ceilings covered in some mysterious black gunk that you could only hope was mold of some sort.
they beat you every time you stirred, every time you tried to shift, every time you did anything other than breathe. now you could barely lift your head, your body a mess of bruises and split skin.
when sophia’s friends snuck in, you managed to force a smile, happy to see people that didn’t hit you for a change.
she brushed a finger against your ear, but it stayed limp and unmoving.
her smile faltered. “…you didn’t move it.”
megan’s eyes widened, her voice small. “you always move them.”
you tried to force a twitch or any type of movement, just for them. just to ease their worries, but your body refused.
yoonchae pressed her lips together, looking away so you wouldn’t see her cry as dani pulled her into a hug to shield her from seeing you in that state. manon reached through the bars to squeeze your hand, her usual teasing nowhere to be found.
“listen,” dani said finally, “we’ll get you out. we swear it, just hold on a little longer please. for her.”
you coughed weakly, a puff of smoke leaking from your nose. you wanted to believe them, but your body felt like it was already giving up.
“they’re…” manon hesitated before continuing. “they’re forcing sophia to marry some prince. they won’t let her see you.”
that broke you more than any of the beatings.
sophia refused to speak to her parents. she locked herself in her chambers, door slammed tight, shouting at every guard who tried to coax her out.
“open this door!” a guard would shout, rattling the handle. sophia would yell back, “i won’t! leave me alone! if you want me to leave then let me see my y/n!”
every knock only served as a reminder that she was trapped, trapped in a castle that thought it knew what was best for her. she sat on the edge of her bed, knees up to her chest, hair falling into her face as she refused to even look at the door.
her meals went untouched. servants placed trays outside the door and each time, sophia ignored them. bread went stale, soup cooled, and fruit rotted but she didn’t care. she didn’t care about food, didn’t care about comfort, didn’t care about anything but you.
outside the door, the king and queen lingered. it had been almost a week since their daughter had eaten anything. they had begun pacing the hall for hours, waiting for her to relent.
“she hasn’t eaten in days,” the queen whispered, voice trembling. “she’s fading before our eyes.”
“she’s still alive,” the king said but his voice lacked confidence. he pressed a hand to the door, listening to the muffled sobs and angry mutters inside.
“alive yes,” the queen murmured. “but she isn’t living. she won’t even speak to us. all she does is think of her dragon. honey, maybe we were wrong.”
the king said nothing, outside the door he could hear her soft sobs between sophia’s shouts. “i won’t speak to you! i don’t want to see you! you’ve taken her from me!”
the queen’s shoulders shook. “she was never in danger,” she whispered, eyes fixed on the wooden door. “you know what we must do.”
and the king could only nod, staring down at the ground, knowing she was right.
the wedding was called off, sophia was almost able to form a smile at the news, but she wasn’t able to. not until she had you safe in her arms again. her parents had promised her your release soon and after a very long lecture towards her parents, she had gone back on partial speaking terms with them.
the prince, on the other hand, took the news horribly. he had heard whispers of the king and queen folding under the pressure of their daughter, and how the marriage had been called off. his pride was hurt, he was supposed to wear the crown, not some ugly dragon.
so with his blood pumping with anger, it wasn’t a problem sneaking into the dungeons the day before your supposed release date.
he spat next to you, your chin on the floor as your eyes barely opened. not recognizing the person, you let out a small growl. maybe he was here to get you to convince sophia to marry him.
“you’re supposed to be a monster. a terrifying dragon. but look at you now, pathetic,” he sneered. from his back pocket he unseethed a small dagger, its edge shining with some dangerous magic.
“but then again…” his smirk widened as he plunged the dagger into your side, right between the ribs. “maybe i can fix that.”
pain shot through you, but it didn’t feel like anything you had experienced before.
each time a knight challenged you, there would be rare occasions where their blades would impale you, but this felt nothing like that. it was wrong, worming its way further into your blood stream.
and then something changed.
your vision flooded with red and you felt like your body was on fire. you were shifting against your will, your scales ripping through the cuffs they had placed on you as your wings unfurled.
the prince staggered back, eyes wide, before chuckling to himself. “there you go, that’s the monster i was expecting, and that's the monster you’re gonna show everyone.”
you roared, the sound shaking the entire castle, fire erupting wild and furious.
for the first time, there was no thought of sophia, it was as if your mind had drawn a blank.
they wanted a monster.
so you gave them one.
sophia thought that when she’d wake up the next day that everything would be set right again. that you would be freed from the cell, the kingdom would get rid of all the nasty rumours that portrayed you as evil or dangerous, and that finally you both would be able to live a quiet peaceful life.
but the next day never came.
instead sophia was woken up by the screams and pleads from knights, begging for their lives. she bolted out of her room and ran down the hallway only to be met with a gaping hole in the building.
looking outside she saw mass destruction, the various buildings reduced to ashes, and in the center of all the flames stood you.
you were reduced to nothing but a “monster”, your eyes refusing to focus on anything, making everything seem like a scary blur you had to incinerate.
it was you.
but not the you she remembered.
“y/n” sophia whispered, about to head off in your direction before a pair of arms held her back.
her parents had held her in place, preventing her from running and getting herself injured.
“you can’t go sophia it’s too dangerous. something has possessed the dragon!” her mother cried.
her father cupped her cheeks, “please seek shelter somewhere, i can’t bare losing you.”
sophia struggled in their grip, “she’s not in her right mind! i have to go see her-”
a mocking laugh cut through the castle.
the prince stepped from the smoke, a smirk on his lips as he approached the family. “and to think this was the monster you were going to release in just a few short hours.”
sophia’s fist hit the prince in the nose, a satisfying crack echoing out.
“what did you do to her?” she demanded, readying her fist for another hit.
the prince only laughed as he held his nose, “all I did was reveal her true colours.”
sophia could only turn to her parents, her eyes wide, pleading. “please, let me go to her, she’ll listen to me. i know she will.”
her father let go of her, and with a growl of his own he hit the prince one more time. it seemed that the prince was serving as a good punching bag in times of stress.
“go, but please come back safe.” he said before pulling her in for a hug, and the striking the prince one more time because why not?
as you continued your rampage, you blasted a building near yoonchae. the girl screaming in fear, “stop y/n please!” for a moment, just a fraction of a second, your movements faltered, your eyes seemed to do you a favour just this once, and focused themselves.
for some reason you stopped, there was some protective instinct that disliked how she was scared. clearly something was making her uncomfortable and there was only one solution in your magic induced haze.
burn everything else so that nothing harms her.
easy!
you turned around to continue burning things, you can spare this one corner to make sure that girl was okay.
before you could blast another building, a voice rang out.
“y/n! stop this right now!”
you turned towards the direction only to be met with sophia, your pupils blown wide. this girl was special to you. not in the way the previous one was but in a more important way. now if only your brain could catch up and tell you why.
you stalked closer, putting your head a bit lower so you could smell her. for some reason just being near her made you relax.
you bared your teeth, seeing if she’ll run away screaming. maybe beg for her life?
but she stood there as if she was shaming you.
“you better stop throwing this little temper tantrum! you hurt a lot of people.” she scolded.
for some reason you felt guilty, your ears going limp as you felt ashamed of your actions.
she walked closer, which only caused you to panic and step backwards. something flickered in your eyes, you knew you would be safe but your body didn’t listen. not yet at least.
“i know you’re hurting. i know they hurt you. but you aren’t a monster.” her voice was soft, comforting in a way only she knew how to make you.
something flickered in your eyes and all of a sudden the world snapped back, turning yourself back into the half human version that was much more approachable.
your vision cleared and all you could see was the destruction you caused. the piles of ash that surrounded your little girlfriend as she came even closer towards you.
“pia…” your voice cracked, tears forming in your eyes. “i- i didn’t mean to-”
she smiled, pulling you in for a hug. “i know mahal, it’s not your fault.”
at the sight of you two embracing, the citizens started surrounding you, believing that the rampage ended. happy to see you both back together.
at the sight of the crowd you couldn’t help but notice and snarl, “stay back! i won’t let you take her away again!” you shouted.
sophia chuckled, cupping your cheeks so you’d look at her. “it’s okay, everyone’s nice. my dad approves of you now, you know? don’t go messing that up so quickly.”
you flushed in embarrassment, maybe not the best first impression towards the general public.
“you have a lot of catching up to do.” she whispered before pulling you in for a kiss.
—
the weeks that followed the rampage were interesting to say the least.
for starters the citizens started welcoming you for once, waving their hands in hello instead of waving with pitchforks or swords.
because of all the destruction you caused, you were forced to help rebuild everything. luckily with your strength and size, you were able to rebuild most of the buildings within 2 weeks. becoming the local bob the builder.
sophia made sure that the prince was given the harshest punishment, having him dragged out in chains and humiliated in front of the whole kingdom.
you sat on a patch of grass watching the fireworks with sophia. the kingdom was holding a celebration, happy that they were safe again.
since the incident you’ve been sulking, constantly apologising to everyone even though it wasn’t your fault. your tail swished irritable against the grass, whacking it a couple of times before sophia leaned against your shoulder.
“so…” she teased, a mischievous look in her eye, “how did you like your little temper tantrum?”
you could only groan and cover your face with your hands. “i’m sorry, i really didn’t mean to.”
she giggled and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “you looked scary though. a very big bad dragon.”
your ears perked up and your tail started wagging. sophia never thought you looked scary, maybe there was a positive to this whole thing after all.
“really? did you think i was scary? i was cool right?” you said, waiting for an answer.
“absolutely terrifying,” she teased while laughing.
fine. maybe you’d never be seen as the big scary monster you wanted to be seen as.
but at least you’ll always be sophia’s, and that was more than enough.
summary: megan skiendiel is known as the campus nice girl who’s friends with everyone. now then why the hell is she only mean to you?
warnings: none!

note: gap collab brought me back to life, i have like 6 other fics i started writing and can’t decide which to finish its jover gang </3
growing up people often told you that you were pleasant to be around, easy to get along with, no terribly annoying habits.
so then why the fuck is megan skiendiel, the campus nice girl, insulting you every chance she gets?
“hey you look better when you aren’t wearing any of that…” megan said, her tone laced with disgust as she pointed towards your whole outfit.
or the other time when she found you reading a book alone.
“what happened to all your little friends? did they leave you alone?” she teased.
at this point you were doing everything in your power to avoid her, even the sound of her footsteps are ingrained in your head. it’s like you’ve evolved to detect when to start running the other way and so far it’s working.
unfortunately your friends are assholes.
“come on, it's just a house party, if it isn’t your thing then you can leave!” manon practically begged.
you looked at her funny, maybe it wouldn’t be the end of the world. “yeah but megan is gonna be there…”
lara and manon keep trying to set you up with megan, always saying “you guys would be so good together! you just need to have a good conversation to hit it off!” maybe if the conversation wasn’t just full of insults you’d agree.
“even more the reason to go if megan's going! she’s so sweet, i love her and you will too,” lara said as she took a shirt out of your closet and threw it onto your bed.
you could only internally groan, of course your friends would like her, why wouldn’t anyone not like her? it’s not like she tortures anyone besides you.
“who knows maybe you’ll meet someone else,” manon teased as she threw some pants at your face. “now put these on and you’ll have everyone practically drooling for you.”
“okay okay now get out so i can change and stop throwing my clothes everywhere,” you scolded while pointing towards the large piles of clothes on the floor as lara continued to throw more, ignoring you completely.
as they left your room you changed into some party clothes and did some light makeup, and made your way out to the party.
walking in only made you feel more out of place as a wave of people were dancing close together and the faint smell of alcohol filled the air, but hey at least manon and lara are nearby in case anything went…
where the fuck did they go?
wandering further into the house, you eventually see manon in the middle of dancing with a crowd of people while lara was being waved over by a group of people. it’s not like you didn’t expect this, they were much more into partying than you were.
you sighed to yourself, it had only been 5 minutes and you already wanted to leave. maybe you could sneak out, text the group chat a quick “sorry guys my dog just died” and crawl into bed. except before you could even pull your phone out you heard a voice coming from behind you.
“wow you actually showed up.”
you froze. you didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was.
megan fucking skiendiel
“come on, too shy to look me in the eyes?” she teased, coming up right behind you and whispering in your ear.
you take a step forward and turn to face her, “don’t you have a fanclub to entertain or something?” you shot back, motioning vaguely to the group of girls who kept sneaking glances at her.
her smile widened, clearly amused. “maybe, but i like bothering you more.”
before you could respond, someone called her name and waved her over. she gave them a little wave back before leaning closer to you, her perfume making you dizzy.
“try not to get lost okay? this place is huge. i wouldn’t want you ending up with some random girl or something,” and she walked off while you were stupidly fanning your face from how red it got. you didn’t get it. she was nice to literally everyone else. why the hell did she go out of her way to make fun of you?
“guys i think she likes me!” megan blurted towards her friends, earning a laugh from dani.
“megs are you sure?” she said, taking a sip from her drink.
yoonchae raised an eyebrow. “yeah are you sure you aren’t just… scaring her away?”
megan groaned, flopping back against the couch. “no i’m telling you, i’ve been dropping hints ever since she transferred here. like today i told her not to get lost because then i’d be worried and-”
“she probably thought you were insulting her sense of direction,” sophia cut in, still giggling.
lara on the other hand, being president of the y/n x megan fanclub, waved her hand dismissively at sophia. “don’t listen to them. y/n’s just a big softie on the inside. she acts all grumpy but she’ll melt if you keep at it.”
megan perked up nodding, “see! exactly what i’m doing.”
before lara could offer some advice, megan’s eyes caught you across the room, standing by the drinks table with some girl who seemed to be laughing at every little word you said, her hand casually resting on your shoulder as if she had the right.
megan’s smile dropped.
the girl seemed to lean closer to you, whispering something in your ear which made you laugh. a feeling of jealously made megan’s stomach twist.
“oh fuck no,” megan muttered, standing up before faltering in her pursuit. “wait, i dont even have the right to go over there. we aren’t even dating. she doesn’t even like me!”
as she was about to go back to her seat, manon pushed her forwards.
“nuh uh, you are NOT being beaten by some random girl she just met at a party. go fight for your future wife!” manon said, obviously a little tipsy from the way her cheeks were flushed and how she kept shoving megan forward even though she was already starting to walk in your direction.
megan stopped walking for a moment, “are you guys sure this is okay?”
“yes!” lara said, “now shoo, and don’t come back until you get rejected or have that girl with you.”
the girl next to you was… awfully touchy. every time you shifted away she found some excuse to rest her hand back on your arm or shoulder. some people are just naturally touchy so maybe this is just the norm for her.
“you’re so funny,” she giggled putting her hand against your chest.
you smiled politely, but it came out awkward. “haha, thanks.” god when i said i wanted to attract women, this is NOT what i meant PLEASE STOP TOUCHING ME.
she didn’t.
“so… is this your first time here?” she asked, not before taking the red solo cup from your hand and taking a sip.
you looked around to see if anyone would save you, “haha yeah, i’m not really a party person.”
she pulled your hand into hers, “you know… if you get scared i’ll hold your hand for you.”
you plucked your hand out of hers, flashing a smile and pretending like you needed that hand to grab another cup from the table.
“yeah, so i’ve got to go… my girlfriend's waiting for me and she expects me to be back with some drinks,” you said looking everywhere but her eyes. mama didn’t raise no liar, but maybe she should’ve because at this rate you weren’t gonna escape this girl.
the girl’s smile faded a bit before she slung both arms on your shoulders, pulling you closer.
“i don’t see her,” she purred as though she cornered you.
you could see megan walking closer over the girls head as you quickly pulled off her, “haha there she is!” you say loudly, as you practically superglue yourself next to megan.
“this is my girlfriend megan,” you say towards the girl before turning to megan, “sorry i took so long babe i got held up.”
megan’s face went red for a split second, her lips parting like she couldn’t believe what you’d just said. you had to hit side before she regained her composure in record time, sliding right into the role.
her arm snaked easily around your waist, pulling you flush against her side.
“i was wondering what was taking you so long baby,” she said, voice dripping with a sweetness that felt laced with venom. then her gaze cut toward the girl, the air going stale.
megan practically gave her a look that said “try me”, before flashing a polite smile. “and who are you?”
the girl only challenged megan's stare, clearly not able to take a hint.
“not that it’s any of your business, but i was having i was just having a lovely chat with y/n here, hoping to be able to finish it too,” the girl said while making a shooing motion in megan’s direction.
megan’s smile sharpened, her arm tightening around your waist as she leaned down just enough that her breath brushed your ear.
“i bet she’d love to finish your little chat,” she said in a fake sweet tone.“but our friends are expecting us back. so if you don’t mind…”
before the girl could get another word out, megan tilted your chin up and kissed you in a way that felt too convincing to be fake.
by the time she pulled back, the girl was already backing away, face flushed with embarrassment. “whatever,” she muttered, before disappearing into the crowd.
megan didn’t bother to give her a second look before focusing on you.
“are you okay?” she asked softly, scanning your face, looking for any injuries. “she didn’t do anything right? i’ll kill her just say the words.”
you blinked at her, still a bit dazed from the kiss before shaking your head quickly. “thanks for the save but… you can stop pretending now.”
her brows furrowed instantly, confusion flashing across her features. “what?”
“you can stop pretending like you care, thanks for the help but your job is done here.”
“i just wanted to know if you’re okay, i care about you.”
you scoffed while crossing your arms. “megan you’ve literally spent months insulting me. every time i see you it’s like you can’t resist making some snarky remark.”
“what?!” she sputtered, eyes wide. “no i was flirting! i was trying to at least!” she dragged a hand down her face. “oh my god this whole time you thought i hated you?”
you gave her a deadpan stare. “what else was i supposed to think?”
megan’s expression crumbled into something so painfully soft it made your chest ache. she no longer had that cocky look on her face but a softer one that seemed to be reserved just for you. “y/n look, i like you, like a lot a lot. i’ve liked you since you transferred and i just thought that i was coming on a too strong so i tried to joke and it just, fuck, i sounded like an asshole didn’t i?”
you studied her face, her wide puppy dog eyes blinking at you like she was afraid you’d disappear if she looked away.
“you’re so stupid,” you finally muttered, smacking her lightly on the head.
“ow!” she yelped, clutching the spot. “what was that for?”
“for sounding like a dick,” you shot back. “you really made it seem like you hated me.”
she scratched the back of her neck, “well when i said you looked better wearing none of that i meant that you would look better wearing noth-”
and before she could continue, you grabbed the front of her shirt and yanked her closer, pressing your lips to hers.
her breath hitched against you, her hands instinctively gripping your waist tighter never wanting to let go.
when you pulled back, she was flushed bright red, staring at you with wide eyes and stammering, “so… does this mean you?”
you cut her off with another kiss.
“shut up megan.” before grabbing her wrist to search for the nearest closet.
