Boho Rhap Inaccuracies
Once again I just want to say, this is no hate towards the film. I really enjoyed it personally and even saw it 4 times! The cast and crew did an amazing job and I am so proud of Brian and Roger for completing this project! This is just a list of the major inaccuracies within the film as my followers requested! (sorry if there are spelling errors! and if I am incorrect about any of these facts feel free to contact me!)
The Band
We will rock you was released in 1977 not 1980
Another one bites the dust was not on the Hot Spaces album, it was on the Game
Fat bottomed girls were played in 1974 in the film and was not released until 1978
Queen was not formed as simply in the movie. Freddie met Tom Staffell at Ealing college and they became friends. Freddie at one point even followed Smile around like a roadie and knew Brian and Roger prior
Freddie was in a band called Ibex (renamed Wreckage) and Sour Milk Sea from 1969 to 1970
Freddie and Roger actually lived in a flat together and were close friends, they also sold clothes and art together in Kensington market
John was not the original bassist but the fourth one they found
The film shows that John Reid planned their first American tour, when in reality Queen had already toured America twice, one alongside Mott the Hoople and one alone to promote Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack
Freddie was not the first to release a solo album and the band did not react the way they did in the movie. Roger was the first to release a solo song in 1977 and then Brian, Roger, and John worked on solo stuff as sort of a different creative outlet. Freddie was the last to release solo work and the band was so supportive of his solo albums. Roger even provided drum backings for Freddie. He never claimed that Freddie ruined Queen like in the movie
The band never broke up like shown in the movie, so Live Aid was not a reunion Â
Freddie
Freddie did not meet Mary the night smile performed, he met her through Brian who actually went on a couple dates with her
Jim Hutton was not Freddie’s servant or waiter (this is a big facepalm) he was a hairdresser who met Freddie at a nightclub, Jim deserved more than just the title of Freddie’s servant/waiter in my opinion
Freddie did not get diagnosed with aids until around 1987 and the band wasn’t aware until 1989
Not all of Freddie’s homosexual relationships were bad, this one irks me a little because in the movie you see Freddie surrounded by asshole people who were gay. That is not entirely true, in fact, 95% of Freddie’s friends were gay and they were all so great to him and they loved each other, not all his gay relationships were as bad as portrayed in the movie Â
Other
Paul did not out Freddie on TV, he sold his personal info to The Sun publisher for money in 1987
The band did not have to be squeezed into Live Aid, they were already involved as soon as Live Aid was announced and agreed to take part
The band's performance at Rio de Janeiro did not occur until 1985, during the first-ever Rock in Rio festival (the Love of My Life scene)
John Reid was not fired by Freddie, the band decided to leave him because they felt that they could all manage themselves after gaining such success, so the whole fight with Roger and Freddie over the firing never happened
Roger was not married to Dominique in 1980, they were married in 1988
