winter dust

The city's been covered with a cloud of dust the past few days that everyone says is from Afghanistan, blown up from the south. It's thick and gritty and turns your snot black. It smells musty, like opening up a wardrobe in the guest bedroom of your grandma's house. Mothballs, dust, soot. Smarmy and insinuating. No wind -- doesn't shush or sheen against the pockmarked streets, just hangs and clings.
