ROLESCAPE is an accessible, aesthetically pleasing social networking website (and mobile app!) with a myriad of features that the roleplaying community, over multiple websites, have been begging for. Made FOR roleplayers, BY roleplayers, the site quite literally would not be possible without everyone who has helped out so far.

It keeps us motivated and inspired to create a platform that is built specifically for you and right now we are seeking out a few things such as more ways for you to get involved if you’re interested! * Public relations & marketing — Oversee positioning of Rolescape, outreach, communications and announcements

If you have interest in any of the above teams, please feel free to message our official discord account account after joining the server with a brief run down of position interested in and skills you have that would work for any roles you are interested in. 

Please also note we need people who can actively help out so please don't over stretch yourself and apply if you have enough on your plate right now as this is far from the only way to support us currently! It takes a village to launch a platform off the ground, and it takes funds to purchase the features needed to turn Rolescape into a reality for the roleplaying community! If you guys will add feature to save icons and user use them in the post without having to upload every time from folders that will be epic!

Absolutely! A media library with this concept will be a feature, and you can read more about it here and more about Rolescape's design in this tag.

Will you guys be implementing a feature that will inspire the shy/selective group to reach out to others for plots? Like in the old days there were a lot of greeters, and basic ooc interactions with headcanons and such, it made the community more open and made it a lot of fun. Maybe something could be added to give rewards for this, too? I know you had something that would motivate with threads in general. Will you guys also add something to stop the whole reblog of memes things where everyone reblogs it, even without sending stuff to the person who posted it first on their dash? I used to get so many memes sent to me, and now it's just reblogged from me notes in my activity feed.

There will be something – somewhat similar to this! We’re working on what we call ‘universes.’ Now this is a tiny bit complicated to explain because we’re still hashing out all the details on how we hope to go about it. The idea, as of right now, will be a special section of the site with fully fleshed-out worlds that people can jump into and develop a pre-existing or brand new character. Now you may be thinking “But this sounds like a group RP!” and you wouldn’t be totally wrong. It is a fleshed-out little world where you can join and write – but unlike groups, you don’t have to apply, wait on admins ect to just start writing. You jump straight in and don’t have to worry about activity checks or the like. You can come and go as you please and just – have fun.

These universes will have all sorts of things and places for you to interact with; from ships to shops, taverns, schools, apartments ect; With pre-established characters like teachers, royalty, other students, shop owners, and so much more. There could even be politics, rules, and laws that could be maintained or broken depending on your character. Some worlds will be sandbox, some will have prompts and plots that push ideas forward. But, in the end, it’s up to you and the other members of the universe to help flesh it out and make it a true universe. We provide the bones and circulatory system while you provide the meat to get this thing moving.

We hope with these pre-established areas members will feel comfortable to pop in and interact with the universe and leave whenever they want without feeling any sort of pressure or responsibility. A place where you can take a character you’ve already written, or create a new one, and toss them in to see what happens.

There will also be a search feature called “Match Me.” A completely optional feature of the site where you can input your favorite movies, shows, books ect and find other people on the site who like the same things. It’s basically a way to find people who share the same interests as yourself and know instantly that you two have something in common to talk about. We hope that features like these can help shy & selective members to find their troop!

thank you SO much for your hard work on creating a platform exclusively made for roleplayers. i've been waiting for this for so long, and i sincerely hope it will work out thanks to the effort you've been putting in it. now, i don't know if this was already asked before, but will we be able to switch from a public profile to a private one so that only our friends will have access to what we post?

We very much appreciate all the kind words! We cannot wait to have you join in the future! But to answer your question... Yes! Absolutely. Privacy is a big thing we have thought about and there will be tons of options for your privacy on your account. Rolescape will have options to make mutual-only accounts and post-by-post choices. Think about how Facebook posts work; you have the choice for only me, limited friends, friends only, and public views on posts. We are striving for a similar posting system.

Hey guys!

A bit random but a good suggestion i think would help is temporary bans for offenders of harassment / like they do on flist. On there they IP bam you for X amount of weeks/months/ or even years. Just a suggestion since from the three rp communities ive been on (flist, tumblr, twitter) flist gave me the least amount of issues with people because everyone had no choice but to use the block button and mind their damn business lmao

Hey, thanks for the idea! Right now, Rolescape allows users to fully block other users—those users will not show up anywhere on the site, and it will be as if neither of you exist to one another. In addition, we will allow reports and investigate all of them to ensure the comfort and safety of everyone roleplaying and interacting on Rolescape. You can also make posts viewable to friends only, and make your profile private. We hope this is sufficient enough as we had heard something along the lines of this before and the community brought up the concern of issues arising when more than one person shares an IP address, as well as the fact that there is the possibility of spoofing IP addresses. If you have any feedback on that, we’re always open to hearing it! There are a thousand ways to achieve the same end goal, we just have to figure out which way is the best.

Hey! How is the site progress going? Is there any prediction for the beta? No pressure, I was just wondering.

We’re in the process of Alpha testing right now. This means those that are testing are the volunteers helping to build the site. Beta testing will come once we’re in a better place and feel like the site is a bit closer to launch. We will for sure be making big announcements and talking about beta non-stop when we get closer to that time period. So keep an eye on this Tumblr and the discord for updates.

As for signing up, we’ll open for beta for 500 users via an invite code. Beta testing will be on a first come first serve basis over the course of five days where we will release 100 sign-ups each day at different times throughout the days. The schedule for the sign-ups will be announced ahead of time (remember! I said we’d be talking a lot about it so it will be hard to miss!)

Once we’re comfortable with that, the server load, modding etc, we will allow the beta testers to invite others so we can figure out where any faults or breaking points are before it goes public. We thank you so much for your patience and cannot wait to have you on Rolescape!

We are still working on the FAQ, and thank you so much for your interest in reading it! Since the team is composed of volunteers, we are working on it whenever we have a spare moment, and we hope to have it up as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience!

1) is this going to be an app eventually? most roleplayers are mobile most of the time since they aren't always going to be around their pc 24/7.

2) is there going to be like a "pay to play" type element to this site? im sorry if you don't understand im not sure how to explain what I mean.

1) Yes, we are working on an app. I can’t say that I know what’s going to happen in terms of getting our app on the Apple App Store because Apple notoriously has some pretty heavy censorship when it comes to user generated and NSFW content, but in the very least, we have made a PWA so if we can’t get on the App Store, it will still be available via mobile and you can add it to your Home Screen.

2) Rolescape is not pay to play, and everyone will be able to participate for free.

Hi Judah. I think it would soothe a lot of hurt feelings if you addressed what happened with the scores thing. I'm in the middle, but I get the concerns on both sides and I feel like there's been a bit of an, hmm, unfair bias against the people with concerns. I think lots of people said "similar" things because you misunderstood them. An optional feature can either be opt in or opt out. And the snarky posts were, yeah. Quietly deleting it feels like a cover up. Can I ask you to consider it? <3

Hi anon, thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the late response, I've been busy with the holidays. I can assure you we don’t have any intentions of covering things up. Some earlier asks were deleted in an attempt to clean up the blog and to keep the focus on Rolescape, as well as to avoid future misunderstandings/confusion. We are still working on a Q&A to help with this as well. However, with regards to the badges, for now that feature has been put on the back burner as my main focus is currently on building the site as a whole.

When there is opening for alpha testers to be added again, is that going to work differently this time? Last time, there were simply visible changes in the server that led me to roll over usernames and it was a bit surprising to find that out. I'm quiet in there anymore, but I'm not someone who never checks what's going on, I'm there every day. Kind of expected to see some notice or process, but since I didn't, I'm going to ask this time if I should or if this is a fully behind the scenes process?

Hi anon! Thanks for the question. For the first round of alpha testers, we opened up alpha testing to members of the Rolescape team, which is why it was a little less noticeable and why there was no official server-wide announcement. We are still hammering out the details on how we want the process to go, but we will be opening up alpha testing to the entire server for the next batch, as long as they're above the age of 18 and can devote the time necessary. Is there an ETA on when Rolescape will be up and running? After tumblr's latest round of censorship I'm getting worried.

Release has been pushed back a bit while we work on security. The Log4j vulnerability was released and Judah is currently doing mitigation. Releasing a safe, secure site is one of our top priorities, as is making Rolescape the best it can be. The good news is, we're moving closer to our goal every day! Alpha testing is still very much under way and we'll need more testers in the future, so stay tuned to the Discord (link in source) for updates!

Weird question but will there be a place for icon makers in Rolescape? Like for folks to post icons for others to use?

Absolutely! Rolescape will offer different account types, including but not limited to multimuse, character, cosplayer, and more! There will be an option to make a creator profile on Rolescape, which will allow you to upload themes, graphics, icons, and whatever creative masterpieces you can concoct! That's definitely in the works! A lot of languages will be automatically translated with the site's built in capabilities. The rest will be translated with help from the community. We want to account for different dialects and different word meanings dependent on context. We also want to make sure we get feedback from the community because language is always evolving. It will be an ongoing process, but it's definitely a goal of ours. If translation is something you feel you could help with, please feel free to contact us!

Your tone was a little snatchy there answering people just recently, mod friend. However, to the other anon who's telling the mod they need a reality check? Did you...not see them have to reiterate the same point like 5 different times? Possibly more? Its more frustration than anything of constantly having to repeat themselves. They're not mad that people are disagreeing. They're welcoming people being open about opinions! But when the same thing has to be said over and over and over and over and over again, it gets incredibly tedious and frustrating as hell. I'm sitting here getting frustrated for the mod just watching them having to explain the same point over and over again because some people either didn't see the question already get answered, or couldn't be bothered to look and read. You cannot sit there and tell me you wouldn't get annoyed/frustrated if you had to keep saying the same thing a thousand different times.

That's my mistake. Sometimes I don't realize my tone changes when I am typing, but yes, I was mostly frustrated having to repeat myself or people getting angry with me over things that are already an option.
