Can we acknowledge the differences in Scarlet Witch’s facial expressions in Age of Ultron and the rest of the movies?

Look at all of her scenes in Age of Ultron.

She’s very straight, with little emotion.

You can see it better in this.

In AOU she looks so much more “pretty” than powerful, even in the hard times. And I noticed that when Whedon shot her during painful scenes, it’s from strange angles where the audience doesn’t get a good look at her face.

This one is from far away and we see the effects of her pain, but not on her face.

This close up that I could find is different, too. It’s overexposed so she still looks “pretty” while in pain. (Notice the lack of wrinkles, etc.) Btw, that last shot is darker, so why would this one be lighter? To make her seem pretty:/

Now look at her in Infinity War

Here she is in action, making faces that are active, involved in the situation.

Here’s another, with such strong emotion. Also, notice the close ups on her face during these scenes. The Russo brothers aren’t afraid to show her face, no matter how riveting and unpretty what she is feeling may be.

These close ups portray the vulnerability and hurt on her, unlike in AOU.

Even these from Civil War have more emotion and involvement than AOU ever did.

I read somewhere that Whedon wanted Olsen to look pretty while shooting these action scenes. And it’s blantantly obvious when looking back on all of these movies. Everything is shot so we see her pain, but still let her be beautiful. This creates a false sense of emotion. It’s there, but it isn’t raw. However, the Russo brothers have let Olsen be vulnerable and interactive while shooting action. She is powerful, vulnerable, aggressive, and it SHOWS! Being “pretty” doesn’t do this character justice, and I’m glad this has changed throughout the years. However, this also shows Whedon’s view of strong feminity to be obsolete. He wants it to be there, but only if it’s beautiful. He doesn’t want to risk a woman looking too fierce or aggressive because women are told to be pretty in our society. Go back and look at more scenes from Age of Ultron and compare the physicality of Olsen to movies where the Russo brothers are directing. There’s a stark difference.

TLDR; Whedon wants women to be pretty while in pain. The Russos let women be aggressive and fierce during pain.
