If you didn’t find Freminet within the halls of the Hearth or on a mission, there was a very likely chance you’d find him embracing the water’s waves. Might be more than very likely, honestly. Every second below, every chance granted with the waters, felt the closest he had ever been to feeling calm. True peace and serenity. 

The creatures below were easy to spot, even easier to interact with. There was no worry of saying the wrong thing, no concern of judgement. Only the comfort of another’s presence. Only the entwining of another in the ecosystem. That was not to say the sea held no secrets—it held so very many. Too many. Yet it still felt like home. 

Time did not feel quite so real here, a concept that only reached the shores and never beyond. Of course, logically, he knew otherwise. Time ticked away the same under as it did above, yet its embrace felt softer. No rush, no expectation, only a soft reminder that this was real. That they were living below just as much as above. And yet with every trip, he needed to go up for air.

It felt lonelier reaching the surface, swimming to the shore. No creatures to coexist with, only the millions of eyes staring right at him and—

“Quack!”

Freminet blinked, looking behind themself to find… a duckling? No, wait, there were… four…? Each of them was shaking off the wetness of the water. Huh. Oh, their mother must be nearby. Speaking of family, didn’t he need to meet Lynette for a trick? Just like clockwork, seconds on the surface felt constraining, a ticking time bomb. Except, it could figure out a time bomb way sooner than how to navigate interactions. 

Tap. Tap. Tap. 

Luckily, everyone seemed busy in their own worlds, gated from Freminet. Or so he thought but with every step forward…

“Quack! Quack!”

It had to be coincidence, right…? But try as he might, nowhere around them had a single mother duck. So why were… oh, look! Lynette! What a relief… 

Quickly, Freminet walked over to her. Maybe he’d lose the ducklings in the crowd before he reached his sister who was… drinking tea leisurely. Yep, definitely her. “Hello, Lynette. I am in…”

“Quack! Quack! Quack? Qua—”

“… a bit of a predicament. Do you know how to…?”
