Loves a good book, a fine dish and cozy home The best description for my style is Storybook Tudor Cottage (but in a gabled American brick/stucco home), so it's also influenced by western farmhouse grain-sacks and crockery, mixed up with stacks of books and english tea formality, combining an overall hint of cozy romance. My life approach is that the recipe to happiness is pleasing the five senses, so at home that translates into lush cobblestone edged courtyard and gardens, interiors scented with bouquets, candles or perfumes, Simple Life from the Father of the Bride soundtrack playing through the sound system, fruit and dark chocolates, and of course all the visual beauty and whimsy I can possibly surround myself with. To that end, my favorite design elements are roses, fountains, dovecotes, quaint wrought iron, statue busts, tapestries, buffalo check and grainsack fabric, white crockery and linen, classic books, vintage silver and crystal. If you throw in some play-worn toys, sewing tool baskets, an art easel, and surprise yardsale treasures I'm in heaven. But above all, my style is cheery and cozy from season to season, everyone is casual, no one is ever asked to remove their shoes, and we would never save the "good stuff" for special occasions.

Outdoor lighting invites our guests to explore the garden after dinner. Step outside for leisurely evening drinks, a bowl of icecream, and stargazing…subtly lighted by a tiered iron umbrella candelabra.

2013 - Silver candelabra and footed cake-plate, sparkling glass and teatime necessities on the cafe bar table. The theme, including wood craft stamps, alludes to my Only Fault, my love of chocolate ;-). The glass covered silver dish was a new gift addition from a thoughtful visiting family member and prompted this vignette.

2013 - Library game-room with window telescope, chess table, game storage bench, leather books, favorite history and mystery classics and collectibles. More shelves, including the flatscreen, circle the room. It formally had matching sofas and hanging rows of botanical prints facing each other inside the bookshelf alcoves. But our books multiply while we sleep, also we inherited the antique family table so solution was swapping in the club chairs.

2013 - Cottage Kitchen, wood cabinets, white cupboards, blue florals, red brick, silver and copper accents. Mixing bowls, cake and dessert trays, florals combine for cozy inviting atmosphere. The blue kitchen wallpaper, paint, etc will soon be gone, I am ready for change.

Miniature storybook fairy tale garden. Disney inspiration includes Sleeping Beauty Castle, tudor cottages of Cinderella scrub-washing in front of her cottage, Little Mermaid grotto, Snow White cottage, wishing well and seven dwarfs crossing bridge to cave-mine, Aladdin and Jasmine gazebo, Pocahontas river village, town square with Belle, and more…Disney Railroad is a big part of my family and one siblings home has a life-size train that we all, children and adults together, ride around the property at family gatherings. I have promised to add a miniature train to our garden soon. Have a beautiful day!🌸

2013 - Little cottage kitchen window-box terrace. Outdoor iron bench seating area, spring bunny family and birdhouse accents. After much thought finding an easy solution (without tearing out the old concrete and established plants) we have plans to soon expand this little sunporch area by a few feet so it will be a little more comfy and i can rearrange the chairs. I am very excited over anticipating Just a few feet !

2013 - The Peter Rabbit and Brambly Hedge children’s books inspired the place-settings and surround blackberry and strawberry vines center of table. Champagne brunch is set with William Sonoma green cabbage platters, vintage bunny rabbit and acorn transfer-ware salad dishes and bronze vine-twig flatware overlooking a patio garden. I actually have Royal Dalton Brambly Hedge salad plates from when Target carried a whole line of coordinating items, but didn’t use them this time. Have a beautiful day!🌸

I just adore this wise quote that hangs above our french doors, and certainly can vouch how good for the soul a deep breath, ray of vitamin sunshine, and sounds of industrious nature even a brief time in our garden provides. 🌸 One of my favorite artist/cookbook authors is Susan Branch and her kitchen garden in Martha’s Vineyard has a picket gate with a vintage iron plaque with this quote. If you haven’t read her watercolor-illustrated travel scrapbook titled A Little Romance, she takes you along on a Queen Mary trip across the ocean and driving through Beatrix Potters english countryside..it is highly entertaining! 🌸 Can you believe there really is a big water fountain centered in our rectangular rose bed? Both the Peace and Princess of Monaco roses have grown so high you can hardly see it. In the background flowerbeds of this side area are a Memorial Day rose, Queen Elizabeth rose, Lincoln rose, as well a Princess Diana rose which is purple. A very moving and delightful story set in France is a book titled For the Love of a Rose by Antonia Ridge. It tells movingly the histories of two competitive families of rose cultivators who eventually marry and create the famous Peace Rose. It is an old book by an excellent writer. 🌸 Gardens are part of mankind’s earliest history, we have in North America trees over five thousand years old, what sagas could they tell? The old colloquialism is Time Began in a Garden, so i hope it is fitting my own first post begins here with a scene from our side garden. 🌸
