New security barriers have been installed at Trafalgar Square over the last two weeks. Many people are complaining that these temporary metal and concrete barriers have destroyed the visual beauty of this iconic national memorial. I agree with these views to a certain extent... but, sadly they are necessary to protect the public from a possible vehicle attack.

The current Terrorism Threat Level set by MI5 is - SEVERE. This means that an attack is highly likely. Pedestrians still have unlimited access to Trafalgar Square. These barriers may be ugly... but, they help to keep everybody safe. (Unless you are a pigeon!)

Photo taken by my friend who had tea at Balmoral on Friday 24th July. There were no royals in residence. Staff said they were preparing to close once the family arrived in August.

PS my friend said the Victoria sponge cake was delicious.

I highly doubt they were at Balmoral, because the king is not there yet. I know this because my friend visited Balmoral a few days ago as a tourist! The staff said they were preparing for the royal family to arrive in August.
