Lady Marthe Crane was at the =Seat of House Osgrey, Standfast, her maiden home when she bore Rosette Crane. Red Lake, Seat of House Crane was under siege for months, and Lord Ormond Crane had only just managed to have his lady wife smuggled out of the castle over the lake to her father’s land. There, Lady Marthe and her newborn daughter were safe away from the fighting. Rosette did not see her house until she was close to two years old, when the fighting had ended and Lord Ormond called for his wife’s return to court. Marthe and Rosette were greeted with applause and excitement, as the town surrounding Red Lake threw flowers for the daughter of their Lord. At court Rosette was spoiled by her father who had missed her birth and her first two years of life. She was addressed as if she were a Princess of the Seven United Kingdoms and not merely a daughter of a minor Reach Lord. As she grew, Lord Ormund Crane managed to ingrain some of his insidious and treacherous thoughts into his daughter. It started out softly, whispers of how she could truly be a Princess, tales of how they were descended from one of the greatest princesses of The Reach- Rose of Red Lake. And of course, if she had been named after such a great Princess then surely she would be one herself in the future- perhaps even a Queen in her own right. Rosette loved playing at Princess, as all girls might, but as she grew she began to covet what she did not have- royal blood, a throne that she might call her own, a husband who would treat her as if she were Rose of Red Lake. And then she was twelve years old, learning the genealogy of House Gardener on the lakeshore by the castle, and she dozed off while her tutor droned on. Edwyn Oldflowers, the sixth son of Oldflowers and a renowned man was startled to find his pupil as if in a seizure, her eyes rolled back into her skull as she gently twitched in her sleep. Ee called for the guard and the Maester, fearing poison or a budding case of epilepsy. Rosette woke after two days with her sense of time greatly distorted, murmuring something about The Marshes. The girl would continue to dream of being a Crane, prompting her mother to gain more than a few grey hairs over stress that her daughter had gone insane at an early age, while her father drew back to the annals of House Crane with his trusted historian, searching for the last confirmed occurrence of a Skinchanger in the more private records of House Crane. Lady Rosette Crane would be the first in 150 years. As she grew from a young girl into a maiden of renowned beauty, Rosette began to grow more and more haughty. She grew temperamental when orders were not followed, and soon the servants of Red Lake called her Princess Rosette once more, but in an entirely different tone. Filled with envy for the Tyrells, she began to plot with seriousness with her father on the advancement of her house, and her life as a member of a royal family at any cost.
