Trincomallee, Sri Lanka We stopped for a snorkel on the way back to town after having a delicious lunch on board. 10/10 day!!
Trincomallee, Sri Lanka We woke up early the next morning to go whale watching on a SAIL BOAT! It was so nice being on the boat all day. We saw three blue whales which was just incredible. They're so big! Almost impossible to get a good picture but you can just imagine how majestic they are. Unforgettable experience!
Trincomallee, Sri Lanka We got invited to a local music concert and we're made to sit in the VIP section up the front on chairs while hunters of locals sat on the sand further back. It felt weird being the special guests but we enjoyed watching the local stars sing on stage! Plus there was the cutest little boy dancing in front of us.
Trincomallee, Sri Lanka Exploring the town
Trincomallee, Sri Lanka We explored the town the following day and went to the markets. It was nice to be in a town that wasn't so touristy. There were deer all over the streets.
Koneswaram Temple: Trincomallee, Sri Lanka
Trincomallee, Sri Lanka We booked a lovely airbnb place to stay in Trincomallee, that was just out of town. The first day we went to visit a beautiful Hindu temple that was on top of a mountain overlooking the ocean bay.
Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Sunset spam
Batticaloa, Sri Lanka On the walk home there was a gorgeous sunset and a random local really wanting us to take his photo hehe.
Batticaloa, Sri Lanka We decided to break up the long journey to Trincomallee by stopping in Batticaloa for a night. We got a guided tour (by the old security guard) around the fort and stopped at a random restaurant for some beers.
Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka We got to Arugam in the afternoon where Margie managed to find us a super cute cheap place to stay close to the beach and main road. Over the next few days we relaxed and got some sun at a beach called Peanut Farm.
Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka Just before arriving in Arugam Bay our driver Sampath took us to another beautiful beach temple where we had a stroll on the beach and Terry put coconut shells in his shirt!
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka This amazing guy made our day when he walked right past our Jeep! So special. I may or may not have fallen asleep a little bit on the way home...
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka Safari!! A monkey stole Matt's cigarette pouch haha so there he in on the roof of the Jeep trying to get it back. Didn't have much luck though, the little guy was pulling it to bits and throwing it down to the ground!!! It was even more funny because another monkey on Perhentian island in Malaysia stole his cigarette pouch from his pocket and did the same thing!!
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka More safari pics... Lots of bird shots for you mum! ❤️
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka Safari pics
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka We set off at 5:30am so that we would get to the park entry early. Along the way we saw the most amazing sunrise while screaming down the road in our Jeep. Turns out we weren't the only ones trying to get to the gate early so had to wait in line for our entry tickets for almost an hour. Once we were through the gates we got to see heaps of different animals. Crocs, Buffalo, Monkeys, Bee Eaters, Mongoose, Pea Fowl, Deer and even one elephant who walked right near our Jeep!
