Riley was playing with her hair in front of the bathroom mirror at school, waiting for Maya to finish doing her business. Someone with sleek black hair and wearing red from head to toe walks into the bathroom and starts staring at her, making Riley very anxious.
“Um, can I help you?” Riley said to the girl.
“You’re Riley Matthews right?” the girl said. “I’m Darla.”
“How do you know my name, Darla?” Riley asked.
“Well you and your girlfriend are the talk of the town,” replied Darla. “You guys are seriously couple goals.”
“You mean Maya?” Riley confusedly said. “We’re not dating.”
“It seems like you are,” Darla began. “You’re always touching each other whether it’s holding hands or hugging. The way you stare into each others eyes is not the way friends stare at each other. And don’t get me started on the sexual tension.”
Riley opened her mouth in shock. “Well, I have a boyfriend. You may have heard of him – his name is Lucas Friar.”
Darla objected, “Someone overheard you at Topanga’s telling Maya that you love her more than you love Lucas.”
Riley raised her finger to object but then she realised that she did say that. Oh shit, her and Maya do kind of act like a couple.
“I’m not gay so,” Riley argued.
“Honey,” Darla said. “You don’t have to be gay to like girls. You can be bi or pan or poly.”
“But I’m straight,” Riley sputtered.
“Sure you are,” Darla laughed. Maya walked out of the bathroom stall and judging by the look on her face – she was about to kick some serious ass.
“Hey bitch,” threatened Maya. “Don’t you ever talk to Riley like that ever again or that pretty little head of yours will be on a stake.”
“Wow, overprotective girlfriend saves the day,” Darla sneered and walked out of the bathroom.
“What was she even doing here?” Riley wondered. “She didn’t go to the stall or use the sink.”
