January 31, 1952 - The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh leaving for Kenya. Six short days later she would become Queen Elizabeth II upon the death of her beloved father, the King.
The very real possibility that this could be the last time he would ever see her again seems visible in the King's expression.
“As you celebrate your new-found status for this very special part of the world, nothing could give me greater pleasure than to say llongyfarchiadau and to wish you every possible success for the future.” - The King
The King and The Queen Consort were in Wrexham today as it officially received city status.
Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, later Duchess of Teck. Granddaughter of King George III and Queen Charlotte through her father, Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge. Princess Mary was the mother of Queen Mary, wife of King George V.
The King has been pictured on his 74th birthday resting against an ancient oak tree in Windsor Great Park as he assumes the role of Ranger at one of the country’s oldest landed estates.
The new holder of the title, which confers responsibility for overseeing the stewardship of the estate, can trace its roots back to 1559 when Sir Henry Neville was chosen in the reign of Elizabeth I.
The King has been appointed to the position 70 years after his father, the late Prince Philip, took up the role.
Queen Máxima: we follow Elizabeth's example in our work
During her working visit to the United States, Queen Máxima once again responded to the death of the British Queen Elizabeth. "I can think of no better way to honor her than by following her example in our work," the Queen said. Elizabeth passed away on Thursday at the age of 96.
Queen Máxima also says her thoughts are with The Queen's family and the British people. “The King Willem-Alexander, Princess Beatrix and I deeply sympathize with them. We are grateful for all that Queen Elizabeth has done. With tireless energy and dedication, she has served her people for the past seventy years.”
Immediately after Elizabeth's death, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix had already responded. They then said they were "intensely grateful for the close friendship to which Queen Elizabeth has made such an unforgettable contribution".
