Hey. I need to learn pacing and timing of stuff. I don't click with it, even with all the time I've been here. One quick-roll event was my limit honestly. I know there is a way, or some sort of method/thought process. The thing is, whenever I spend a lot of time on replies I feel like I get mired in aspects that just aren't important, and want to focus on more consequential things. That's what I mean by pacing. Would those who reply quickly be able to give advice on this? D: Thank you!
Firstly, major apology for taking so long to get to this question! Not many of us have really been around from what I’ve seen.
Now to try and answer….Myself and ModWheatly are assuming you mean A) talking about getting too involved in unnecessary details in replies and/or B) talking about getting caught up in unnecessary things irl
On the details bit, I suppose it would depend on your reply/partner’s reply. Extra detail can be a good thing to have if your end reply if on a short end, and want to fill in the space. If you want to cut back on detail, try to think of what is and is not necessary toward the current and potentially later parts of the reply.
Now on IRL stuff, it is kinda hard to control. In my eyes, if you get caught up in real life, you can also catch up on your ‘net junk later. Your partners should be able to understand if IRL junk is pulling you elsewhere. Nobody can control every since aspect of their lives.

There are two interpretations I could get from your question, (Like the mod above me, I was a tad confused about it. My sincerest apologies). And i'm going to take a shot in the dark and try to answer them based on what I THINK you're trying to say. *Inhales* Let's go.
A) Caught up in real life stuffIf this is your problem, i'm just going to quote myself and say "They understand". If real life calls, you heed that call, no questions asked. Real life takes priority over rp life in my eyes, so you shouldn't feel guilty if stuff happens that slows down the speed of your replies. Just talk with your partner if you feel like it's been too long. Trust me, they DO get it, and not talking to anyone is not going to solve anything. So, it really doesn't matter how long you take! Hell, some roleplayers will accept necros of a month old or even longer! Just make sure they know what's going on, and youll be good, Trust me!
B) Caught up with unecessary details in rp replies.The second interpretation of your question (which, again, i'm sorry if either of these are wrong), is a bit trickier, but i'm going to tell you what I do to avoid getting caught up in unecessary details. Make a list of things you need to do in that reply. Advance the plot? State motives? Establish a scene? Develop your character? Develop your character's Grandpa? That kind of stuff, and then simply write out those things while doing your reply. That's the easy part. The harder part is instead of fluffing out uncecessary details (We don't need to know what your Grandpa wears at night unless his bunny pajamas are somehow plot relevant), try expanding upon the main points in your rp. Don't just state your character's motives! Tell us WHY he has those motives! Give us the five W's and one H! Who, what, when, where, why, and how! Heck, the more you do this the better! If it starts feeling unecessary, then, you know what? That's GOOD. It typically means you've added so much detail to something that it feels like any more would just be useless information! Less bunny pajamas, more relevant material. It sounds silly, but I find it a pretty darn good analogy.
