We should really use this more lol
Oh look we have a Tumblr! Lol. Sorry I forgot about it. Trying to be more regular now
bi person: i headcanon this character as bi
y'all: ok
bi person: cool so [male character] is dating [female character] and they're both bi
y'all: lol shut up hettie these characters aren't straight
bi person:
this is unrealistic, people get pissed after just the first part where you headcanon the character as bi
This is what happens on the discord. That, and cults.

Yeah I know, maybe Iâm going a little overboard with these different social media things. But Iâm really just looking for a better way to communicate with readers besides the review sections. If that works for everyone, cool! I just thought Iâd bring a discord to anyoneâs attention if they wanted to chat with the writers in realtime once in a while. One of them, at least. Itâs going to take me a bit to convince Arctic to get discord.
Iâve updating the link! People were getting kicked off when they disconnected.
Hedy and Ruby both feel this big time. Probably Jeremy, Mike, and half the bots too..
Work in Progress. Fans should be able to guess whoâs who. Thereâs someone else on the far right but I donât think canât show them just yet.
Hey, I was wondering if both you and Arctic Vulpix would one day give tips on how you two go about writing the story's. I can get a general idea on just reading the story's chapters, but some tips could help.
Actually, You can see how we do it. I posted screenshots of our work in progress (censoring the spoilers). We use Gmail to go back and forth, taking turns with the story and feeding off each other. Plot wise, we discuss the big ideas in Skype or in notes within our email and for individual scenes and chapters we usually wing it. Itâs actually really productive to write with another person because the characters realistically interact with each other. It sounds like a real conversation because it kind of is.
In a conversation between Hedy and Ruby, Arctic and I know both our girls very well, but Arctic knows Ruby better and I know Hedy better. It wouldnât be the same if only one of us wrote, because in that situation weâd be too omnipotent. We obviously can prediction what each is going to say and we know how the scene exactly ends. The way we do it, thereâs a level surprise with each email that makes the conversation realistic.
For example:
I write:
Hedy looked at her for a long moment as she noticed."Ruby...what's up?" she asked. She didn't immediately want to assume something was "wrong." But it was in her tone.
I wait for Arctic to respond. I can guess Rubyâs going to be sullen or something. If I were writing Ruby I might say something along the lines of. âRuby hesitated before answering, her head still tucked in the pillow. âI canât hit anything here...â
But I donât exactly know what sheâs going to say.
Arctic replies:
The teen was quiet for so long that she thought Ruby wouldn't answer. When she did, it was almost too quiet to hear."I can't hit electricity like I can a murderous bot," she muttered.Â
Huh, okay. I wasnât too far off, but still the exact words and description are completely Arcticâs and I couldnât have guessed them word for word. So now I have something organic to respond to. Writing this way, we pass the improvising creativity back and forth very quickly while at time time giving our brains a few minutes of a break every few lines as we wait for the next response. In the past few days weâve already finished three(?) future scenes.
Welp! The new chapter came up on April Fools. Of course. Were we planning that?
Names
Names are a running joke in this story. So many repeats and the most unique names are weird. Hedwig Lamarr Fitzgerald. Ruby Stone. No joke. Thatâs literally Rubyâs last name. Stone. Weâve up to three âFredsâ right now and a bunch of other doubles are coming up later. I canât tell if we just arenât creative or there's just so many characters that weâve given up trying to be original lol.
Hedy muttered at the wiring. "What if I just freaking rip out the whole thing out..."
(This may or may not have anything to do with the previously published post.)
âI'm so telling everyone you managed to electrocute yourself before I even got into any trouble,â Ruby deadpanned and Hedy could hear the disapproval in her voice. And the worry.
"You will not be traumatizing anyone until tonight, thank you very much," Hedy said.
"So I've got permission to do it tonight?" Ruby's voice was still mostly muffled.
Proof we arenât just ignoring you guys! We are working on chapters, itâs just going slow for the very next couple. If anyone was curious about what our work process was like, this is what my email inbox looked like two days ago and the bottom is from a few minutes/hours ago. The top ten or so of the email threads you can see are outdated already lol. A hundred emails within a couple days or less is nothing. @arcticvulpixï»ż I block out anything that could be a spoiler. Does anyone want to see stuff from a couple years ago when I first was starting as a cowriter? Like my super cringey pitch for Hedy or the email threads from chapters youâve already read?
hey, not really an ask, but just wanted to say how thrilled I am as a long-time fan of Expect The Unexpected to see your (Corona) comments from january 31st on Fanfiction. makes me really happy to see that you haven't forgotten about it! much love to you both and get-well-soon wishes to Arctic!
Thanks so much! It means a lot to hear from readers even if weâve been slow. Weâve been writing a lot recently, as you can see from the screenshot of my email inbox Iâm about to post (with spoilers blocked out). Trying to irritate Arctic enough to update Monday, but it depends on if we can rewrite the next couple of chapters in time.
