Proof read yesterday evening, the VN is breadyy! It's a matter of days now. Yes i have scheduled a release on March 14th, aka White Day. 'Cause why not. uwu
Fun fact ; i was initially planning to release it a month ago -- on February 14th, Valentines Day --, but that would have been rushing it, considering i didn't have any BGM at that moment. I'm glad i decided to postpone it (well, again, technically, but still). ^_^

I just completed coding in some music. 🎵 Honestly, now that there is backgroud sound, the VN hits me so different now. I'm ... not really sure how to describe the feeling. Substanciality, maybe? Either way, it seems bare if i now mute the music, haha. x)
I think I'll also upload a compilation video of these tracks on my youtube. What do you think? :3

I recently finished the sprites and coded all of my graphics in! I ended up discarding one more CG illu, although completed, 'cause it was sorta overcrowding. It also turns out i still have the most important thing to draw : the main menu image. <w<')

I was thinking about including music. Initially i set my eyes on public domain, but then i came across a yt channel with a wide collection of Creative Common tracks. And since my project will be a free download anyway ... oh yeah, spoiler on that lol--

Fun fact : i've been struggling for a couple of minutes & trying find out why these wouldn't show when i test launched the VN.
But dw, i figured it out (i think, lol) : turns out i had to neglect the resolution. And here i was worried about resizing these assets. Some wild things i'm learning during this production, haha.

✧ And i have good news! ✧
The illustration and background CGs-- A total of 18 pictures. All. Completed. Today. And at last. ┬┴┤( ✧ ω├┬┴
Now, technically, there was only 4 BGs made and about 14 illus were initially planned. However for the 1st - one BG comes in 3 variants and as a result i ended up with 6 ; and for the 2nd - i discarded two illus i deemed too extra for my liking and so finished the remaining 12.
Oh, yeah! I got to lineart the sprites meanwhile, so i'll work on them more soon!

So heyy. I'm back. After a month.
The good news is, by the power of frustration with modern technology, i finished shading my illustration CGs. There's like a total of 10. Fun fact, there was meant to be 12, but i decided trim out these due to them feeling too extra.
Oh, yeah, i also managed to recover the mysteriously lost progress on my BG CGs (see previous post), but that story will be continued on another day, haha... Don't you worry one bit. ᕦ( ͡⚆ ͜ʖ ͡⚆)ᕤ

Well, that was on Sept 25th. This project was actually going back to a steady pace. AND THEN ON THE 26th- MY COMPUTER DECIDED IT'D BE A FUCKING GREAT IDEA TO REBOOT BY ITSELF-

<< This supposed-to-be-short project IS in developpement hell after all. I lost all my BG CGs & i have no idea why. It's either i do everything all over again or fight to recover the file. And either way, it makes me want to give up altogether. So pathetic ... >>

To rephrase it all, this reboot situation disabled my file, although it was all saved. Plus when i checked, the file was still about 30 MB so, technically, stuff was still in it. It just didn't open/ show for ... some reason ...?
Legit all i did was leave the saved file open and close the computer lid. That's all. I remain beyond confused as to how any of this happened at all (because i never had this kind of issue before, not to mention i update my PC manually most of the time). 5 background CGs aka 6+ months of work POOF! gone.
I eventually mustered the courage to start bringing everything back to where i left it, and i've split all the CGs (the backgrounds and the illustrations) into different files for safe keeping, and in fear of loosing progress again.
I stg this VN adaptation project is meant to be a feel-out of the making of VNs in the first place, so i'm not dropping it. However, this incomprehensible loss of my file really got a hold of my stress, so i'm kind of on edge atm-- ┬─┬ノ(ಠ_ಠノ)
Ok, so while i'm still trying to figure out what the character sprites are going to be like, i decided i'd do some shadow-mapping on the background CGs and the illustration CGs, just so i can project a mood onto these pictures.
As an example, let's take our favorite guinea pig CG, illu CG n°10.
For this beta shading, i simply made black-colored blobs and put the layer on low opacity. Although i do consider making a simple and readable kind of shading from this, it's gonna have a cell/ gradient variancy.
Maybe ... i'll add some textures too? hm.
Btw, how do you like the tiles i used for the floor? I made that pattern myself. (Well, i did use a stock image of a single tile, but i changed the color and a composed a pattern from it). :D
Ngl, but ... I'm not sure as to how to approach this sprite deal. I'm drawing over these right now, trying to brainstorm sth. But sprites clearly cannot be envisionned the same way as illu CGs. At least, i don't think they can.
I drafted the turquoise ones a small while ago (as you can see by the date) and the dark blue one even earlier (at the time in-between finishing the lineart of the bg CGs and the drafting of the illu CGs), while have a background CG in a layer below.
It's this weird thing to draw, virtual puppets of which you have to consider proportions that'd be enough to make them stand out from a (semi) detailed bg, but also to not overtake the setting.
You also have to consider a palette of expressions, not too huge for some consistency, but not too limited either so the characters don't seem too wooden.
It's so many details, that i never really pointed out for myself when watching a let's play of a VN. And now i'm definitly won't help but observe it, haha. X'D

Yeah, i did totally forget about its' existence, haha.
It's kind of interesting though, because this illustration was ment to be a sorta test in digital media for these characters. Especially with the overall color scheme. Turns out i managed to make it visually efficient without trying to hard.
I decided then that i'll color the CG illus accordingly. Same will be for the sprites.
Oh, yeah. I've been simultaneously flat-coloring these CGs. Otherwise working on them - aka only linearting then only coloring - would feel too monotonous. Also, linearting was a more frustrating step than i anticipated, so switching to just filling the sufaces with colors was rather relaxing. And i'm in fact pretty much done soon! ^-^)
Here's an example, a CG you're already familiar with. It also happens to be devoid enough of context, that's why i'm using it, lol.

There were moments i would be a little frustrated while linearting, because i would go back and forth with corrections (i stg i'm usually moderate on this, but i suppose a some sort perfectionnism is bound to emerge when you want to deliver a presentable project).
I ended up discarding about one CG, and the .1/.2 labelisation exists due to my brain mapping of some scenes.
