A piece of inspiration
Okaay, a pictureless post (your warning to scrooollll)
There’s only one life to live.
All of a sudden, I started to think about what I want to do with it, what I’m actually gonna become when I grow up…Rich? Successful? Happy? Isn’t it everyone’s dream to acquire all three of these?
Thus, I deem, I am ENTITLED to make this happen.
I want a happy ending–one I won’t have many regrets when I retire and look back in nostalgia…Speaking of which, I actually want to have nostalgia, a remembrance of happy times in the olden days. I want to become the woman in my dreams.
I want to help myself: learn how to braid, to weave. Become a virtuoso on piano, continue to play cello. Take at least one dancing class. Publish a book. Continue to draw. I also always wanted to model…you know, show off them assets or somethin’.
I want to help others: tutor. Maybe in years, teach others how to play piano and cello. Maybe even teach a hair class. Create choreo for a performance group
I want to lead: It’s funny because all of those goals can actually help become a specialty for a business….I can become my own business. An entrepreneur.
It’s like a win-win-win-win-win-win!! Or a win-win for short.
I’m in the magnet program at my school that specializes in medical science and research. Not gonna say I regret the decision; I’ll definitely put my knowledge to use. Maybe a scientific medical discovery will help me get an award. I’ve always wanted to become publicly known…for somethin.’
And there’s a lot of other things I’ve dreamt of doing too (some materialistic goals…like buying myself a pair of jordans lol don’t judge.)
Do I believe I have the courage to make all this happen at least once in my lifetime…RIGHT NOW? Hell no. But I KNOW I will eventually. Expect the unexpected, is my motto. Because there’s only one life to live, but many goals to fulfill. Anything is possible because the world is my oyster.
And yours too :)

Starry Skies by Mikko Lagerstedt
Self-taught Finnish photographer Mikko Lagerstedt loves to capture atmospheric and simplistic landscapes at night, which reveal the beauty of the open sky and nature’s scenery. Lagerstedt’s starry sky images reveal the grandiosity of nature in an isolated setting, where only the stars are Earth’s companions.

I just made a shirt
You should buy it, it’s cute and totally hipster.

you better be 99 and on your death bed. Other than that, you have no reason to not follow your dreams and be awesome.
When the conversation goes sour
“Don’t take it personal, but no one likes people of your kind.”
I like to pretend my significant other reads my tumblr. I don’t even read my tumblr. But I feel that this is a time to just empty all these thoughts crawling in my head.
There is no doubt about it. Relationships are distracting. When he messes up, when you mess up, you waste so much time thinking about what to say or what to do next. Do you know what you could be doing with that time? You could be searching for scholarships, applying for jobs, practicing to enhance yourself--you could be doing anything but wasting time over sap emotions.
When you’re in a relationship, you are practically agreeing to give up part of your being. Make more time for “us” not “you.” And in exchange, you get love and happiness and unity from your other half. It’s why they call it other half. Because half of you dies when you’re in a relationship.
It’s hard sometimes. Knowing the animosity S.O shares towards my friends, and how he believes that is reciprocated. But I mean, I guess it was expected. “People of my type” are apparently very pompous and pretentious. I know lots of people don’t like my type of people. But I just didn’t care about it until he said it. It just hurt more because his opinion actually matters to me. I mean, how could I not take it personal?
It’s also hard to talk to people about it. My own sister doesn’t support us. The majority of my friends think he can be controlling and the gap just gets bigger and bigger. Who has time for this, you know? All the emotions swiveling. He made me feel like I was really stupid last night. And like nobody will like my friends except my friends. I just felt so ugly.
If you’re thinking of getting into a relationship just know that it’s stressful. More stressful if you’re in a “taboo” relationship like myself.
It’s all supposed to be worth it in the end though. Apparently.
Diabetes Baked Ziti
Yes. Today was finally the day. The day I've been waiting for. I stayed up all night, studied so much. Just for this day. Today, I went grocery shopping.
I like to really do my research before I go shopping. Downloaded all these coupon apps I never used because none of them had Food Depot, made a list of everything I needed, and went to business, looking for the ingredients for my first attempt at baked ziti!!!
But my brother's friend tagged along. And he was bragging it up, talking about he was about to throw down in the kitchen and cook dinner tonight. He questioned me while I shopped for the ingredients, looked up the baked ziti recipe on my phone as if I didn't spend weeks looking up healthy alternatives. He bickered with my younger brother who tagged along (maka gini/for what?!) that didn't bother to help me get the ingredients, but managed to get the cheese that MY BROTHER'S FRIEND WANTED! This fake, artificial, nasty, heart-failure-invoking cheese. Velveeta.
I had already picked up a bar of mozarella and a blend of italian cheeses. Being the subservient person I am, I traded them for the heart attack cheese. I just wanted to rub it in at the end.
I managed to be 3 dollars under the budget for these groceries. When I got home the friend and I went straight to cooking.
Hahaha. No. I went straight to cooking.
This child. This 21 year old child was bragging about how he chefs in the kitchen, how he was going to treat us to a good meal, how he---
side track. My other brother just got home. "Next time yall come shopping, yall need to take me because yall don't know what to get."
God. The things I do for this family. Just for them to be so ungrateful...
--would say "so [my little brother] said that you're macaroni isn't cheesy." I dealt with all of that thinking he was going to help me cook. All he did was put the ziti in the pot to boil and left it there.
While I prepared the meat sauce, I tried grating the cheese. What do you know. velveeta is so processed it doesn't grate.
Tried microwaving. Fail
Tried melting it in the skillet. Fail.
So I had to call him to cut the velveeta in slices. so I could place it in the baked ziti layers. Popped it in the oven.
the end result: a meal that went right through me. Literally. I only ate a couple pieces of the ziti and my stomach had had enough
I don't know what to say anymore. But I do know what to do. I'm gonna stop shopping for my family. They're first of all ungrateful, and I dont want little buddies tagging along acting like they know more than me, even though they probably do. My happiness will never be expended to compensate for their own. No more healthy living for them. I'll save up and buy my own food.
College bound.
Lord of the Flies
We watched this in my government class today (the different political systems emphasized in the art) and man oh man. This was such a good movie.
Good is an understatement. Movies don't normally leave me in a dazed state ten minutes after finishing them. I walked out of the classroom as if I lost a life. I could feel my eyes agape; I was worried shutting them would awaken those memories...not saying that the movie scared me, it was just beautifully crafted--dynamic acting, suspense-building, short but not a pinch of sugar--that reliving the moment will just never be the same.
My question is, how big is that book? I feel like it's long...or is that Lord of the Rings?
It doesn't matter, I'm not gonna read it anyways.
Anyways, good movie. Inspires me to write such a dynamic short story like that.
People don't see my hair how I see it.
After watching tutorials after tutorials, following natural hairstyle instagrams and finally "getting my weight up" to buy some cheap hair, I finally did crochet braids and curled them.
It was such a disaster, it's still is a disaster. BUT EVERYONE LOVED IT!
I don't see how people don't see what I see. Dude, half of my hair didn't even look curled, and after twice of twisting up the perm rods and burning my tender scalp with that mug of demon hot water, I wasn't about to suffer again.
My hair was supposed to look like this. Mind you, I used the same type of hair (janet jamaican twist hair). Please note, this is curls after day 3.
And mine came out like...
BUT I WAS STILL CUTE! :O (Peep the warm, soft outfit too)
See girls, it's good to have second opinions, especially if you're as picky and analytical as I am, because a sharp scrutinizing eye for detail might cause unnecessary worry lines.
And people SAID this hair didn't curl but I saw the above picture and didn't believe em. Nahh, girl, this hair does not curl. I don't know what type of voodoo that girl did to have her hair curls come out as powerful as that.
I'm happy nonetheless. Probably won't buy this type again though!
Preserving Igbo Culture
Today I went to this enrichment festival! (Mind you, I'm only writing this to avoid writing essays all day...enriching indeed)
Yesterday, I was invited to go to this Igbo Girl meeting today: Ada Di Ora Mma. Not too sure about the meaning because I'm proudly Americanized, but that's besides the point. I honestly loved the motive of the little organization. College students banned together to create this group honoring Nigerian culture and wishing to instill it within young women today. They had things planned like learning how to cook certain foods, and language, and I'm about to ask them if they'll give us pointers on doing hair or something, but every Nigerian girl that's not me knows how to do that. Anyways, I had a great time there even though I came ridiculously late and couldn't find the place in the beginning and lost my charger there.
But the overall message was beautiful. The other people, I witnessed, seemed a little clique-y, I think, but I'm willing to tear down walls. Who knows where this will take me...maybe we'll make enough funds to go to Nigeria, but that's lowly likely.
Before the meeting, visiting Nigeria was not a priority of mine, nor was learning Igbo. It's because it's so difficult to learn such a language when you're NOT in Nigeria, and you're not forced to speak it everyday. Or maybe, I'm just building excuses for myself.
Anyways, I met a new friend there (I totally forgot to text her back) and the funny part is, she seemed so alone and just watching the clicks collaborate like myself, so I came up to her to ask a question and it was like opening a door to thousands of papers and books and boxes and that's probably a lame analogy...no, it was like mining for gold and hitting a pipe and that pipe burst and the whole place is flooded...that's probably not a good one either. The point is, she knew how to have a conversation!
We talked about life and she drove me home. Talk about a good Samaritan! I trusted that stranger with my life. Not the smartest thing I've done...
But I'm glad to have came home safely and more in tact and aware of my Igbo culture. Looking forward to what this will bring me.
I thought Sam Smith was black.
Cooking disaster
So today, I tried something new. Bubble up pizza!
I did my research, found many different recipes, went shopping and got to cooking. The process was long and the suspense was building...but the endeavor was in vain. The pizza was GROSS and MUSHY and SOGGY and I put all my life into that pizza. Gawsh.
So, you start off with some biscuits. I chopped up about 16 of the 20 biscuits into fourths (red flag maybe...i didn't use all 20 biscuits).
Another red flag! I didn't use a casseole dish.
Then, you get some pizza sauce which I didn't have because Nigerians don't make pizza but we do make rice so we have lotsa tomato paste but I found some tomato sauce. Used a can of that and combined it with some ground turkey and about 2 cups of mozarella cheese. Added about two tablespoons of water because the mixture looked a little small (possible red flag?) and then put it all together.
Another red flag! I didn't mix the mixture too well because the oven passed the 10 minute pre-heat time and I felt like I was wasting too much energy and I could feel that electricity bill skyrocketing.
Then, popped it in the oven at 350 degrees F for about....30 minutes or more! I tried so hard to make sure it wouldn't be soggy but I started smelling burnt cheese and had to cut the oven off.
My brother was bursting at the seams with criticism, but he didn't know any better. He didn't knew how much emotional unrest I endured sacrificing my LIFE for this pizza. Plus, most of it is gone anyways.
So, what do you guys think went wrong?
Tomato sauce too thin/watery? Not enough biscuits? Too large of a pan? Didn't use the right pan?
I've been hittin up so many bloggers that have tried this with the same question lol. I'm eager to understand! I want to try this again.
Oh, I made shortbread cookies too. Tasted like flour and sugar before I added sprinkles .
