Natsume Yuujinchou, 8 Hotaru is a originally a firefly. A boy who sees Ayakashi just like Natsume grows up alone, bullied and sad. One day, he becomes friends with Hotaru. Hotaru is with him everyday. They fall in love when he grows up. Hotaru befriends Natsume and tells the story that one day, he just was uncapable of seeing her. He stopped seeing Ayakashi for reasons unknown. This destroyed him since they had fallen in love with each other deeply. Years have passed and he was uncapable of ever bonding untill his later adult years when he meets someone with a warm heart. He is about to get married to her. Hotaru, relieved that he has found hapinnes again turns back into a firefly to say goodbye to him one last time. Upon becoming a firefly, she will die.

Natsume Yuujinchou, 6 Natsume sheds tears of joy upon seeing Tsubame smile

Natsume Yuujinchou, 7 This little fox spirit is lonely and finds comfort in Natsume. He begs for Natsume to take his name out of fear that he might otherwise not see Natsume again. Natsume comforts him and bonds with him. Promising that they will see each other

Natsume Yuujinchou, 6 (2/2) She lives in the bushes and a human being leaves food for her everyday. Tsubame grows to love this human and her faith in humanity is restored by this act of consistent kindness that she receives. When she had seen Natsume she asked him to find that human so she could see him one last time and than depart the world forever to join her siblings. Natsume finds him and he also finds a special yukata (a traditional Japanese clothing) that grands Tsubame to be visible and appear in front of the eyes of the human. Natsume is touched by Tsubame’s kind heart and her ability to forgive the humans.Natsume himself has been hurt by humans too but he too persists in believing the potential to do good. He breaks out in tears when he sees a photograph of the happy Tsubame.
