Wedding Diary :: Entry #1 – Not surprisingly, I’m really enjoying the whole design and theme part of planning a wedding. Who knows if I’ll ever even look back on this stuff, but if I’m going through all of this planning (and spending…), I at least want everything to be really intentional and thoughtful. As Bill and I were brainstorming our save the date, we had a lot to think about. We had a lot of information to capture and we wanted it to represent who we are. As you could probably imagine from the fact that we are getting married at a SUMMER CAMP, we tend to recoil from anything “cliché” or “traditional”. That doesn’t necessarily apply to all of our planning decisions (I’ll get to that eventually), but for the design and creative items, we gravitate towards out-of-the-box thinking.
Seeing as our wedding is technically “Destination”, we wanted something kind of “Advertisement-esque”. Whenever we travel somewhere, we purchase a magnet from that city. We usually end up with a magnet in the style of the National Park Posters from the 1980s. It’s such a great vintage look that we both love. So when we were thinking about our Save the Date design, we thought, how cool would it be to create our own National Park Poster for our wedding venue? I was skeptical that we’d be able to pull it off, but luckily for us, we live in the unbelievable age of ETSY, where anything you can dream up, somebody will make for you. We found the perfect setting that encapsulated our venue, not only literally (it is a place with cabins on a body of water), but also emotionally. The scene depicted is serene, with a couple snuggled together by a cabin at sunset with music cascading from their tiny abode. I immediately reached out to the artist and boom, we had our Save the Date.
