quick question: how the fuck do I get through the rest of my life like this
Dan May is a modern narrative painter. A native of Rochester, NY, Dan attended Syracuse University where he achieved a BFA and began to immediately pursue his artistic interests. May weaves a rich texture of the surreal and mysterious into his highly original flowing style. His detail-intensive works have become widely recognized for their dreamlike ability to transcend the natural states of space and time.
His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world, including the 2013 Suggestivism show at the Acquario Romano in Rome. Dan lives and works in northern Michigan. Follow him on @Tumblr.

Alnwick Poison Gardens. The gardens were established in 2005 by the Duchess of Northumberland who’s affinity for the apothecary gardens inspired the collection of nearly 100 deadly and hallucinogenic plants.

We love horror so much because the ideas themselves are frightening, not because it’s realistic. Demons, for instance, are terrifying to think about, but we take comfort in relying on them not actually being real. We leave the movie theater, we leave the demons behind. Which is exactly why the scariest things in life tend to be very, very real. So let’s be honest with ourselves; the worst nightmares happen when we are wide awake.

Surrealistic Paintings by Leigh Whurr
Leigh Whurr a.k.a. Oddly-Spliced is a digital artist from Birmingham, UK.
Describing or explaining my work is rarely simple since the very appeal of this type of imagery lies in how it may touch a place that words or logic cannot immediately reach.
There is logic to be found, but it is spliced with my own subjective reality. It is an instinctual drive and so any statement about my work usually requires some degree of philosophical leverage, as well as a certain amount of self-analysis. Painting digitally seems like a natural extension of a contemporary approach, although I do not feel this should impinge on the content of the work itself in terms of how it should be received. It is, to me, simply a more efficient and enjoyable way of producing art.

The Extraordinary Mystical and Magical Painting of Denis Forkas Kostromitin
As the austere Soviet environment had little to offer in terms of esoteric literature Denis eagerly plunged into the world of Greek and Egyptian mythology and mysticism. Upon the iron curtain’s collapse in 1991 the great information deluge delivered translations of works by Levi and Crowley along with anonymous treatises on alchemy and ceremonial magic, which contained precious bits of insight into matters like energy management, will, balance and intent. The purgatory of Russian military service in the mid-nineties had Denis revise his approach to esotericism and brought him to the gates of Western philosophy. In the wake of the new century’s economic boom Denis frequently visited China as a qualified interpreter, a journalist and a commercial representative. He was lucky to have met several native painting masters and was eventually granted a chance to study Eastern painting tradition first hand. Almost three years of heavy practice, which included mastering gongbi and xieyi techniques, helped Denis determine his true vocation and inspired him to take on the path of a professional artist. Before leaving China Forkas developed the principles of his Eglantine Breath philosophy. The approach – aimed at balancing the Apollonian and the Dionysian impulses and reviving the ancient spirit of harmony in a work of art – merged ceremonial magic, meditation and technical prowess in a single current.
