you got fairytale/magical au! what a precious, little gem you are. you're fun, as sweet as sugar, as tender as the snow that falls in december. you live in your own little world, and i can't really blame you; i bet yours is way better than ours. i like your positive attitude, and the brightness of your eyes. it's like you always find something to be excited about! i wish i could pinch your cheeks! you remind me of the sunlight creeping through the woods, feeding little birds, an old magic well surrounded by flowers.

Connor let a small smile come to his face as he spoke, feeling a rare moment of relaxation at the moment. Perhaps it’s different, considering that he’s never really spoken to someone who just had a calming aura about them, but perhaps that’s what parents just feel like in general. It’s nice, all things considered.

“I hope so too, sir.”

“One of a kind? Boy, that’s the truth... Ever since she was old enough to walk and talk, she’s been marching to her own drum - her own full band, really. Even now, I can’t predict what bit of trivia is gonna come out of her mouth or how many nights a week she’ll be up late wandering around the internet.”

Definitely part of her charm, though. To have heard that he did well raising his daughter felt good. Well placed toil in the fields of parenthood.

“You know, Connor. I expect she already told you so, but you’re welcome here, anytime. Our door’s open to you, for whatever you might need. Especially if you decide to stick around for dinner. My wife’s got this recipe for honey-butter biscuits that she makes sometimes, they’ll really knock your socks off!”

He was likely going to have to rein himself in now, otherwise, he’d start raving about the cooking.

“If I’m rememberin’ correctly, I met Ruthie cause she dropped off some pizza t’my place, think it was a hell of a storm, so we wound up hangin’ out with each other ‘nd watchin’ some old movies.”

No need to explain the rest of that story. Nobody ever wants to hear their kid getting busy. He sure as hell wouldn’t want his parents looking into that…Now he felt his cheeks heating up, Dagda wasn’t a voyeur were they? Because if they’d ever kept an eye on him during that…Christ, now he’s going to be paranoid about that.

“She’s a great person. Even sees good in a drifter like me. S’kinda nice t’have someone who likes ya fer who ya are. Warts ‘nd all.”

Realization dawned on him, a tad slowly. He did remember getting a message from her about not being able to make it back because of the weather. Now, a fuller picture of things was in place.

“Her mom and I really tried hard to make sure both of our kids had that kind of quality in spades, you know? Lot of time and effort went into guiding them toward being the people they are, today. Ruthie took to it especially well, I’d say. Always was the first one to step up and try to make a new friend, here or there. And for all the good you see in her, I’d put money on the fact that she feels the same way about you.”

The thought came back to Tadao, just then. About how it wasn’t tough to see why his daughter so highly praised Connor around him and her mother. Thus far, he seemed like an honest, humble kind of guy. That was the very sort that he could be fond of, in his own right.

“Don’t tell her I said so, because she’ll just do that rolling her eyes thing, but I hope you two are in each other’s lives the way you are for a long time. You make a solid match.”
