“That. Sounds. So. Cool!” Caboose yelled out, an arm tossed up in the air as he interrupted Smith’s story for at least the sixth time.

Not that the lieutenant cared one bit, watching his captain’s excitement with no small amount of glee on his face, dirt streaked cheeks pulled up into a grin and eyes nearly sparkling from the small fire they were sitting next to. They were catching up on stories, started out with Caboose reliving every second of their great rescue then escape and return. Eventually, it lead back around to Smith’s stories, which seemed to make Caboose happy, especially when he told ones about being home and the antics him and his siblings got up to. It was his stories about Christmas that really got Caboose excited, he couldn’t help grinning at the other’s reactions.

“Yes sir, it was pretty ‘cool’. I mostly enjoyed the snow angels myself, it was the first time we ever made them and it was colder than I anticipated.” Smith continued, leaning back in his seat and toeing the ground idly. “Our father even joined, we had a lot of fun.”

“I want to make angels too!” Caboose announced, standing and moving over to the ground, lying in the dirt and making his own sand angel.

“Uh, Smith? What the hell is your CO doing?” Bitters asked as he came up on the scene.

“Making a snow angel, of course.”

“In the dirt.”

“Well yes! There’s no snow here. He’s clearly showing that, despite the hardships of situations or locational differences, you can still have fun doing things if you try hard enough!”

“…Right. You have fun cleaning that mess up.”

Smith just sighed and watched Bitters leave, shaking his head and going over to join Caboose.

“It isn’t that cold.” Caboose laughed, dust and dirt puffing up around them.

“It isn’t snow, it would be freezing in snow, sir.”

“Can we make it snow here?”

Shaking his head again, Smith turned his head to watch Caboose, the dirt smearing across his grinning face, “It doesn’t snow on Chorus.” He paused when Caboose frowned and pouted, sitting up quickly to continue, “After the war though- we could easily go somewhere with snow, Captain! And make authentic snow angels.”

“I would like that.” Caboose grinned again, resuming making his dirt angel.

“Me too, it would be nice.” Smith replied then gave another soft added part, “Merry Christmas, sir.”
