“isn’t he just going to be a dick to you instead? i don’t want to put you through that,” ruiqi answered, chewing her bottom lip. “the less people he bothers, the better.”
rvmingi:
“yeah. he’s my friend, don’t get me wrong. i like ranking with him. but having you on the team feels right. i don’t get as stressed about messing up,” mingi admitted, probably for the first time. he’d been nervous for the roster change, but ruiqi was a good fit. “to be fair, you never wanted blood to begin with,” he laughed. “i know you want to play lifeline, but you’d be a good gibby. we could get woo on wraith, and i think i could play blood. aggressive scans would be so useful. that’s if we want to run a really NA comp though…”
she smiled. she hadn’t heard him say that before. and honestly, hearing from her actual teammates that she was a good fit meant a lot. like her hard work was worth it. “you say that like you messing up is a pervasive issue. you have better instincts than you give yourself credit for,” she assured him gently. “yeah, i know, so i’m extra bored with them,” she insisted. she hummed. “gibby could be cool to try. i’ve been wanting to try a valk comp too, though....”

“it’s not really something you think about when you came up on your own– i’ve had the same sort of realizations,” hyeja assured her. “but you deserve to feel happy and safe on your team. talk to them.”
“i will. i should probably do it sooner rather than later too because uh....i may...have slapped him,” she admitted sheepishly, cheeks turning bright red. “i’d rather they hear that from me, instead of in some twisted story from him...”
rvdongwoo:
“now that we can try to do,” he conceded, offering her a tiny smile. he knew she wasn’t being annoying on purpose. and he got why she was kind of upset. “we’ll talk to keean this week and see what he thinks about potential comps that we can try.”
“thank you,” she said, taking a deep breath. conversations with dongwoo stressed her out sometimes. she felt like she was being graded, and was always on edge. “i have...some ideas. some real good ones, i think. and we could do with a shake up...”
rvkeean:
“a pubs meta, obviously. less heals in my inventory means more room for ammo and nades,” keean replied with a laugh. “plus, i’ll get mingi to play loba. the perfect team.” well, it was an ass meta. but it was pubs. who cared?
“that actually sounds really fun,” she admitted sheepishly, letting out a little giggle. “thanks, keean. i need this.”

“yeah, you’re right. he’s always been like that, and it’s never really… been okay. but i think this is the first time anyone’s put their foot down, with you and keean, and also the first time that like….something he hates happened and hasn’t been reversed,” mingi said thoughtfully. “you know, i was thinking about that. maybe woo should try wraith someday. everyone always says that the IGLs should usually play wraith…”
“well, it’s not going to be reversed. we play well together, and i’m better than him. and the team dynamic is way less toxic. it’s time he gets with the program,” she said firmly. “i was thinking about that too. i think we we shift our roster, all of us would get less burnt out. lord knows i get tired of blood...”
rvtaek:
“yeah, he probably just wants to fuck you. i doubt he gives a shit what you have to say for real,” taek snorted in response. mingi was a whiny baby– maybe ruiqi was his type. “prove to me that you’re a good player then, short stack. you’ve never done anything to show me that replacing me was the move. maybe if it was warranted, i wouldn’t be so pissed– you ever think of that? snowflakes always go around yelling misogyny any chance they can, but you’re just not as good as me. and you still wouldn’t be if you had a dick.”
that was the last straw for ruiqi. she wasn’t one for physical violence, and she’d spend the rest of the week regretting it and feeling shame, but she was past her breaking point. as soon as the words about mingi came out, she slapped him. pretty hard too. and then she walked away. she’d be having a word with keean about this.

“you guys are signed to millenium, right? is there any sort of HR department you can report to? his behaviour is so unacceptable– he needs to be held accountable,” she replied firmly.
“i’ve talked to keean...i guess maybe i should look into thats a option. i don’t know why i thought that the gaming sector wouldn’t be held to the same hr rules...” she mused aloud.

“if lifeline becomes meta– and she won’t– i’ll apologize to you directly and take all the i told you so’s you have. but until then, we play blood.”
“i’ll hold you to that, then,” she conceded, nodding her head slightly. “i am feeling burnt out on bloodhound though, woo. would it be too hard to try to implement valkyrie or something?”
“hey, ruiqi, let’s play some pubs,” he began, throwing an arm around her shoulder comfortingly. between dongwoo not trusting her and kyungtaek being an asshole, he knew how hard being on this team was for her. he liked trying to keep her confidence up and make sure she felt welcome. he was their coach, after all, and he knew she played best when she felt valued. “i need my 4k damage badge on crypto still, and i can’t think of a better support player in the game.” @rvsurii
she was torn between wanting to roll her eyes, and getting all flustered at the compliments. truly, keean was a saving grace. mingi was really kind to her and she loved being his teammate, but the rest of being with knifepoint had been hard for her. having the coach-- the man sort of in charge-- embrace her so fully was important to her. “are you sure? i don’t know what kind of meta has crypto and lifeline in it...” she began. “but i mean... of course i’m down! i’m tired of ranked anyway.”
rvmingi:
“yeah no… it makes sense. she really has a don’t mess with me attitude, and it’s kinda sad to think of what must have happened to get her there,” mingi sighed. “i….taek’s not that bad. usually. he just took you being added personally, i think. how he’s treating you isn’t fair at all….” he grinned. “i should show off, then! maybe if i’m a good enough bloodhound, you and i will have to trade for algs!”
“i know. but as much as i empathize with why he’s being so rude, it doesn’t make any of it okay, you know? i get it, but it’s still gross,” she answered. she wasn’t going to let take walk all over her just because he was feeling bad or overlooked or whatever. “oh, god-- me as wraith? i don’t think i’ve played her more than a handful of times. that’s a terrible trade.”

“come on. he wasn’t a baby– he needed to know he fucked up so he wouldn’t do it again,” taek answered with an eyeroll. it made them all better players. “stop crying. you’re just proving my point– you’re not cut out for all this. what are you gonna do when a rival team starts shit talking you and dragging you, huh?”
“really? because he seems just as responsive to critique when i’ve given it to him kindly. you really should stop using that as an excuse for your disgusting behavior,” she shot back. her teary eyes narrowed, and she shoved her finger into his chest. “do not mistake my tears for weakness. i am allowed to feel. that doesn’t make me any less of a player. you are demeaning and you are mysoginistic and i’m sick and tired of having to put up with it.”

“god, that energy would stress me out. narae is firm, but she’s nice. she works with us really well. but your team is so talented and always does well, so maybe there’s a method to the madness?” she offered.
“i guess. but i feel like i’m so close to cracking under the pressure all the time. but i can’t crack, because that’ll just give taek what he wants,” she confided.
rvdongwoo:
“don’t try to manipulate me into playing your way. we are innovative and clever, but there’s a difference between being innovative and playing with a D-tier legend. no lifeline, no rampart, no mirage, no fuse, no loba. figure it out. i’m not IGLing something destined to fail.”
“whatever. octane and rev were on that list until literally last month. when you change your mind-- and you will-- i’m not having any gaslighting.” she retorted stubbornly.
“All you have to do is just…. try it.” Joohye had seen a bunch of people talking about vegemite and how you either loved or hated it. While the Dancer was way to scared to try it herself, she figured that if she got one of her friends to eat it and they liked it, it’d give her enough courage to actually try and eat it herself. “Just close your eyes and say ‘aH’ it’s gonna take five seconds… I pinky promise.”
“i’ve tried it, joohye. i already know i hate it,” suri answered with a dramatic sigh. “you’re nice and all, but i’m not throwing my entire lunch up because you’re too scared to try it yourself.”
rvdongwoo:
“so? if lazy teams can make the bloodhound meta work, imagine how poweful it could be in the hands of a good team,” dongwoo insisted bluntly. “lifeline’s kit is only useful when a teammate gets downed. until then, she’s useless. and using her drop as a cover might help one in a million games, but it’s not going to help really in late circles in pro lobbies. that’s not enough cover to be a difference maker. not to mention doc gets destroyed in half a clip. we’re not running lifeline, ruiqi. that’s final.”
“good players can make anything work. i guess i’m just not satisfied playing it safe and going with the meta just because it’s the meta,” she said, with a frustrated huff. “i thought you guys were more innovative than that. or at least had more confidence in your own abilities....”

“that’s just…. weird,” hyeja admitted. “i don’t want to criticize your team or start drama or stick my head where it doesn’t belong but… you were top pred. you clearly know what practice works best for you, you know? who are they to say who you can and can’t play?”
“woo just has a complex about being the one who makes the rules, i think. he wants to micromanage every little detail. it’s exhausting. sometimes mingi or i will suggest something and he shoots it down, but then will propose the same idea the next week,” she sighed. “he’s a really good igl. i just wish he wasn’t such an asshole sometimes.”
