She sat quietly as Luna spoke, listening. Her heart was pounding out her chest, and silent tears ran down her cheeks as her eyes darted around the room, surveying for the danger she was sure was there. “He killed her, Luna. He’ll get you too.”

“Rae who is going to hurt me?” Luna asked confusion taking over her features. “If your dad is in jail he can’t hurt you and being on campus is safe. I’m not just going to leave you Rae you are like my sister I’m here for you”

He sighs as his father leaves, which was still weird to say, “he’s gonna hate me”. He couldn’t explain why he did what he did, he wouldn’t be able to tell Rumor either. “I haven’t, I don’t watch a lot of television. That’s the Sherlock Holmes though right?”

“No, he won’t. Do you want me to help you get whoever did this to you put away?” She smiled sadly down at him, empathetic to how he was feeling. “Yep, but this one is super modernised, and the thought processes are mental. I wanna get your opinion on it, and I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on till they revelaed it. You know how most crime shows you can kinda guess who done it? Luna looked around “Rae no one is here” she said reassuring the girl “You are safer here than anywhere else, but Rae if your dad did something if I can help I will do whatever you need, I could pay him off or something. But wait who is Feye and what did he do to her? Look Rae no one can get you here, I promise I won’t let anyone hurt you”

Michael’s eyes widened and Caleb snorted, “hush”. He sits down now that Caleb was alright and falling asleep, typical after his meltdowns. “I was in prison”, he says quietly, “for something I didn’t do, but that’s another story. I didn’t know he existed I went away before he was born. As soon as I did I came here. He didn’t tell anyone because his brain doesn’t work the same way yours does. He went years with someone looking at him like he was trash, he was afraid Rumor would too. That he’d rather live with his boyfriend cheating than getting raped. It’s not the first time, no one cared before why would they now kind of mentality. If you want to help, I would be grateful”. He leans over to mumble to Caleb he was going to get his dinner, he’d be right back. “He should be fine now, his sister will be back soon. It’s good that he has friends that don’t treat him like a toddler”. Caleb sits up glaring, “fuck off Michael”. His dad chuckles, “I’m fucking off right now, I’ll be back with your chicken”. He turns and leaves and Caleb sits there like nothing happened, “you said you were bringing something”.

I think it’ll be fun.” Looking to the floor where she’d left her bag earlier, she pulled out her laptop. “Have you seen the BBC’s Sherlock series? Because the man is fucking clever, and I wanna see if you’re smarter than him.”

Michael looked down at Caleb and at the girl and it was like a light went on. He felt Caleb reach up and grab his arm, stare at him pleading eyes and he just glares at him. “Lilly told me about Rumor, I’m Michael, I’m his father, his real father. Caleb, he didn’t cheat on anyone. He was..”, he tries to think of a nice way to put it, ignoring the way his son’s fingers dug into his arm. “Someone forced him on his knees, another held him there..”. His eyes leave the girl and go down to Caleb, who seemed to just give in, “he won’t tell us who it was, or who gave him the pills”.

“Where the heck have you been all this time? He needed you.” Rae was angry, but scoffed indignantly as Michael gave away Caleb’s secrets. Turning back to the boy, she raised a brow. “That’s what you wouldn’t tell me? God, you are a fucking moron. What did you think I was gonna do, idiot?” She shook her head, and softened in sympathy. “I can get them put away, Caleb. So that they never know it was you who gave them up, and so that they’ll never see the light of day again. My lawyer, he got.. They got my dad, and they can have these fuckers too.”

He shakes his head, starts slamming his fist of his good hand down on the table over and over, screaming stop it. It was the screaming the drew Michael back to his son’s room faster. He had left to get a shower and lunch and as soon as the elevator dinged he heard him. A man older, but looking strikingly like Caleb came in the room throwing his bag down and restraining his son. It took a couple of minutes until the tight grip he had on Caleb worked and he calmed down. Michael stared directly at the girl in the room, gently laying Caleb back down. He was quiet, facing the wall, “okay what’s going on? Who are you?”

“Caleb just broke someone’s heart with the biggest lie I’ve ever heard, and it’s gonna tear him apart too if he doesn’t fucking fess up to whatever the hell he’s covering.” She said bluntly, staring the new man out. “I dunno who the hell you are, but he’s gonna burn out, and he’ll need Rumor here, and I know for a fact that Caleb is entirely incapable of cheating on him, no matter what he’s trying to tell me.

“Tell me” Luna said letting her hand move up to the girls forehead carefully wiping the hair from the other girls forehead. She held onto the girl letting her hold the girl throughout the sobs. “You can be okay and not run, if you let yourself finally face whatever is going on you will see that yeah things are gonna be shit but Rae is that worse than letting yourself get eaten alive?”

“Not here.” Rae mumbled into her shoulder, eyes darting around the room fuellled with paranoia. “Not from this, I can’t. Running is all I know how to do, Luna. I started running before I could even walk and now you’ve fucking gotten me to stop.” She trembled, daring a look over her shoulder and down the hall. “My dad - my dad is worse. I’d rather be eaten alive than face him again.” Her eyes pressed closed, fleeting memories boring holes in her chest as she bled her truths into Luna’s hands. “After Feye.. It’s not safe here, Luns.”
