Stage Grand Prix vol.5: Sato Ryuji
[TRANSLATION] Stage Grand Prix vol.5: Sato Ryuji
Release Date: 13 September 2018
Translated by @sutekiyomitsu and @rz-jocelyn
When he is all alone, lost in thought The young man, who stands above the rest in isolation, in due time, he transforms into a unique existence that is unlike any other. Sato Ryuji-san, who puts pressure on himself to drive himself forward, he dashes up towards a stage that nobody can mimic. If I were to embody that figure [in my eyes] in one word, the word that suits him would surely be “isolation”. I wonder, what kind of scenery does he see?
Please do not repost any of my translations.

Even as I continue to proclaim myself as the self-styled soutaichou [1] it’s been 3 and a half years of me departing for the front lines in the Heisei Era.
Today, as a sword of Toumyu, carrying the thoughts/feelings of everyone else on my shoulders, I would like to finish off the departure to the front lines of the Heisei Era. [2]
The Musical Touken Ranbu Kashuu Kiyomitsu Tanki Shutsujin
I’m heading off.
NOTE:
[1] “Soutaichou” is a term loosely translated to “captain-commander” or “head captain”.
Sato Ryuji calls himself a “self-style soutaichou” because he originally called himself by that title jokingly.
Since then, however, the other cast members of the Musical Touken Ranbu have actually taken to calling him by that title for real, as can be seen in this post: HERE
[2] In Japan, they have a calendar system based on the different eras where different emperors reign. Currently, they are in the Heisei Era, but as of May 1, 2019, Japan will be ushering in the Reiwa Era.
Due to the dates of the “Musical Touken Ranbu Kashuu Kiyomitsu Tanki Shutsujin Asia Tour”, Ryuji will end the international portion of his tour in the Heisei Era and conclude his entire tour with his Japan performance in the Reiwa Era.
This would mean that, representing the Musical Touken Ranbu, Kashuu Kiyomitsu would be the sword to close the Heisei Era with the franchise’s last departure of the era, and the first sword in the franchise to depart to the front lines in the new Reiwa Era.
@ryuji7117
April Fool’s Day, Christmas, I’m not very skillful at hopping on to such current/topical events, but
To have been born for around 24 years in the Heisei Era [1], met so many people, gone through all kinds of experiences with a whole range of emotions, in this way, I have been able to walk through life.
I am very grateful to everyone who has gotten involved with me/supported me and cheered me on.
This is bad, I want to boke [2]. What should I do.
NOTE:
[1] In Japan, they have a calendar system based on the different eras where different emperors reign. Currently, they are in the Heisei Era, but as of May 1, 2019, Japan will be ushering in the Reiwa Era.
[2] “Boke”. “Boke”. Loosely translated to “the funny man” or “the dumb one”. He is one-part of the traditional Japanese comedic partnership. The “boke” acts like an air-head and makes the most ridiculous statements, which the “tsukkomi” jumps in and corrects. If anyone is interested in finding out more, please check out this link: HERE
The word “boke” can also be used as a verb, which is “bokeru”, loosely translated to, “to boke”. In this context, it is used to refer to the act of making air-headed comments and/or ridiculous statements, which leave room for correction.
[3] Sato Ryuji didn’t actually include any photos in his Tweet, but I decided to do a small compilation of photos of him through the years in the Heisei Era. The photos can be found: HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Reach: Long Interview
[TRANSLATION] Sato Ryuji’s 2nd Photobook “Reach”: Long Interview
Release Date: 2 July 2016
Translated by: @sutekiyomitsu and @rz-jocelyn
“I would like to become a man who is dandy, or how would you put it, a man who has a sex appeal. Conversely, I don’t want to become the kind of person that you can describe in a single word. As long as I’m in this line of work, if I let everything about myself become that apparent, I think that the audience will become bored [of me]. At all times, I want them to think, “Sato Ryuji has this side to him too, huh”, and, in a good way, I want to surprise the audience. However, most certainly, [even] in 10, 20 years’ time, I think [who I am at] my heart/my core wouldn’t have changed.”

Personal Comment:
Even though it has been two years since the release of this photobook and interview, I still find that this interview is one of the most interesting interviews that he has done so far. It is interesting to see how much he has accomplished since this interview was published and how he has evolved, yet still remains the same at his core. Please enjoy reading it!

For me, this is a very important/precious song.
I think that if everyone could treasure it as you listen to it, that would be nice.
It’s a song that’s so important/precious [to me] that I can’t insert even a tiny boke [1].
Ah, but thinking about it, if I wanted to insert a boke, I could do it.
NOTE:
[1] “Boke”.
