The Nerds Having a Crush on Someone!
- How it started: You challenged his argument during a school debate — not to humiliate him, but because you actually listened and wanted to push the conversation. You even cited sources. He was stunned. Then worse, you agreed with part of his point. Validated. Debated. Respected. It was like feeding his ego and heart at once. But the debate kept going anyway, he was frustrated but admired you at the same time.
- Why/How he was in denial: Earnest thought you were messing with him, making him look like a fool in front of everyone and ruining his reputation to be the school president. He though you were one of those people who mocked the nerds for their knowledge. He isn’t the type for romance(judging by those magazines and what he asked Jimmy to take pictures of Mandy..) Especially because he thought it was a waste of time in general and maybe how people treated him so he thought “All of the people here suck! They wouldn’t like you unless you’re those big jocks..”
- How he acts: Kind of meaner towards you, or just ignores you in general – always brings up the debate and accused you for humiliating him, but deep down.. He admired your knowledge, he’s just denying it. After that debate he kept thinking about your answers, on how you took the debate so calmly. Whenever you’re near he just quickly walks away. He’s too much of a coward to actually face his own feelings, they don’t need weapons or science, it made him suffer.
- Whenever you talk to him, he tries to stay calm yet is a mess – especially when you complimented him right after the debate.. “You’re good at the debate, good research n’ all.” You say as you held out your hand for handshake, it was pretty awkward because of Earnest’s shaky hands, he would shake hands with you but of course, too cowardly to face his own feelings.
- He would talk about his feelings with Melvin or Beatrice, even Cornelius because he is “suffering”.
- How it started: Melvin discovered your like(maybe you just enjoy the concept or whatever) of G&G! He’s pretty glad he found another mortal that enjoyed Grottos and gremlins as much as he did. You showed him character sheets and all, telling him about your class, just talking about nerd stuff. That’s when you complimented him: “Your writings really good, especially the whole lore and adventure that’s going on in yer campaign, I’m impressed, really.” (He doesn’t really get that much compliments for his writing skills, aside from the members of the nerd clique..) Melvin kind of stopped functioning, especially when it came from you.. Someone who doesn’t even look like they’d fit in the nerd clique, let alone an 11/10. “Why I appreciate your kindly words, miss [last name].”
- Why/How he was in denial: Melvin was dealing with this in a questioning yet worried way, if he was in love, the only he’d love is his beloved RPGS and his dices for GNG. But yet, this felt different for Melvin, sure he had some crushes in the past but not as big as this one. He was screaming internally the entire night and was asking himself SO MANY QUESTIONS. “Do I really like them? No way! That’s impossible.. They just complimented me, is all but by the Gods above make me stop feeling this way..”, “they were just being nice Melvin.. Calm down..” He was asking Cornelius if he was in love or if he was just delusional as he is. Overall, he somewhat doesn’t accept it because he doesn’t really gain crushes that much, and of course, a lot of people in Bullworth are pure assholes so he has a hard time finding the right person in that wretched place.
- How he acts: Melvin would offer to teach you more about Grottos and gremlins or play with you whenever he’s tree, just to start it off. He’s willing to help you too whenever you have a hard time with some lessons or some ideas for a character sheet you made for Grottos and gremlins. He would give off small little flirts and basically makes them hidden, he’d call you “Fair maiden/knight”. He’d make the game a little easier for you or gave you some easy obstacles while made the other nerds go through hell in his adventure, which made some of the nerds grow suspicious.. Well, except Cornelius. He’d let out small, yet subtle hints that he likes you, but he can’t really face you and say “hey, I think you’re pretty” or “Hey, I like you” like those jocks or preps, he’s too scared to say those words and he thought it would make him look like a fool. He also has so many letters he had written for you but never sent. If his dad knew, the only words he could here was “Don’t waste her time”.
- He admires you from afar and would caught himself doing that before looking away, he is embarrassed as hell.
- He’s willing to walk with you, that’s the best chance he could get to be close with you except G&G sessions. He’s praying that he won’t embarrass himself and all that.
- How it started: You and Fatty talked about arcades and the like, then you asked him for his high score in ConSumo before making a bet that you could beat it with a confident smirk on your face, and Fatty? He was glad that you agreed with the bet, he thought you wouldn’t beat his high score because of course– he’s a master at the game, so he brought you down the basement of the Dragon Wing’s comic shop then bringing you to the machine. To his surprise, you beat it. He was stunned. You didn’t mock him — you winked, that gesture just saying “See? I proved you wrong.” With that smug grin. He hasn’t recovered after that.
- Why/How he was in denial: Fatty just wonders and wonders about his feelings all night long, even while eating. One time he even muttered to himself “Stupid grin– cool enough to beat my high score…” He was questioning himself if he did like you or if he was impressed by you, but it was both. He wanted to hit his head on the wall because of this, he felt like an idiot himself. He couldn’t get that moment out of his head, especially how cool and awesome you looked. He didn’t really want to admit his feelings because “You wouldn’t like him back for his weight”, which is often the reason why he gets bullied aside from being a nerd.
- How he acts: Fatty wouldn’t really try to avoid you but would spend time with you as a friend without telling you his feelings. He would crack little jokes or bring out some out of pocket stories that are so sudden you can’t help but let out a small laugh, if you did laugh at his dumb jokes he’s all red in the face which meant he will try to be distracted over something so you wouldn’t see the look on his face. He also made letters that he wouldn’t send or he’d be in his bed thinking for a new joke to tell you. Overall, he’d be a good friend to you but is a mess for you.
- He’d sit beside you during lunch if you let him. He’d steal your fries and call them “nerd tax” and how he needs to earn his pay. He gets a small punch on the shoulder but it doesn’t affect him. He sometimes lets you win on purpose when comes to video games, letting out dramatic groans and reactions of his loss
- Makes little puns that are slightly hinted as flirts “I donut know what to do you without you.” And if you giggle? He’s hella happy and a bit red in the face but who cares? He made you laugh. But he definitely doesn’t dream of sharing a milkshake with you with two straws like in those corny, romance movies.
- How it started: Algernon had been picked on that day, well, same reason: Guy with an open zipper, weak bladder, and being a nerd. But then, you helped him up and picked up his books before handing it back to him. Algie was surprised for some reason, he expected you to make fun of him or toss his books in the trash but you didn’t, you didn’t look at him with the same look on everyone’s faces either– Disgust. You were just quiet all along and you didn’t even judge him for his open zipper that revealed his underwear or for his weak bladder which is what he’s most known for. The silence kept going until you finally spoke “Are you okay..?” Algie was surprised that you even BOTHERED to ask him, well, his mom is the only person who asks him that but not from a classmate. The response you got? It was Algie trying to be all cool and what made you slightly giggle was his misuse of slang.
- Why/how they are in denial: Algie would be VERY in denial. You were just being nice! Why is he being such a mess over that moment.. First off, he would think that he’s not too cool for you, and maybe it gave him more motivation to exercise or attend gym classes for the sake of looking handsome for you. Second of all, he’ll think you’re just being nice to him because you will HUMILIATE him in front of everybody once you know his secrets, he thought you were one of the jocks/preps/greasers undercover(well if you are one of them you’re just nice). Lastly, Earnest thought it would interfere with their plans to mess with the jocks or whatever Earnest is bitchy about. Earnest even TOLD him that his crush might be a waste of time, that maybe they don’t have whatever Mandy has. “Maybe she’s gonna mess with me! Backstab me like what the others did, what my mommy said..”
- How he acts: You can see him running laps in the field, you can see him in the gym exercising which concerns you because he might overwork himself and wake up with sore muscles the next morning. He’s more motivated to cowboy up because he wants to impress you. Algie would run away every time you’re near which just puts off the act for you, whenever you ask him for something he suddenly pisses himself because he was nervous. He could also feel hit heart beating really fast to the point he can just run fast like sonic. He might even ask advice from his mom which is a bit embarrassing for anyone to do but he did anyway, and what happened next? His mom would ask about you, A LOT. Algie would sneak glances if you weren’t looking at him during class, which is for some students is weird because it’s Algie but you don’t really give a damn.
- He’s a bit(not really a bit if you ask me) ew but give him a chance, he’s not had a crush this kind or chill towards him because most of his crushes are assholes. Some of your friends might even tell you that Algie has a crush on you but you deny it, thinking he just wants to be friends. Most of your friends even talk about Algie and his weird habits.
- Algie would hand you some of his cool G&G cards because by his words he “didn’t want them anymore” but the true reason is, he gave them to you because he thinks you’re cool.
- How it started: You saw Beatrice crying due to the fact her diary was been taken away by the math teacher Mr. Hattrick had taken away her diary because he saw her writing instead of participating and taking notes during his class instead, and Mr. Hattrick is a jerk all the way so what do expect? No kindness from that old man for sure.. Beatrice was in a panic because she wrote something that she wouldn’t tell you about, but you wouldn’t read it because it’s her privacy. “I’ll get it back for ya, don’t worry.” You reassured, seeing Beatrice slowly look up at you and gave you a small, yet appreciative smile “Really? You would do that for me?” You’d nod to show her that you’re willing to do it, as long as she gets her privacy back from that old man. You ended up sneaking in the teacher’s lounge to retrieve it from a teacher’s desk drawer before snatching it and hurriedly snuck away before anyone could see you. You were able to rush back to Beatrice and hand it back. Beatrice’s face lit up out of joy when you gave it to her that she even hugged you, when you told her that you didn’t need anything in return she was glad that you helped her, and it’s not just some errand that you need to pay for afterwards.
- Why/how they are in denial: For Beatrice, she knows she has feelings for you, but she can’t really believe it. You just helped her get her diary back and helped her with other things but she felt like you both understood each other, mutually. She keeps questioning herself if this will interfere with her future of going to medical school and along with her dreams of becoming a neurologist or a cardiovascular surgeon. But she just accepts it and maybe you’ll like her back too, but she doubts it.
- How she acts: Beatrice would hang around with you often, you two would be seen strolling around the school or you dropping her off to the library incase Mandy or any other jerks came along to make fun of her. She would often give excuses to spend time with you, and like Melvin, she has a lot of love letters that had never been spent where she poured all of her feelings out on. Beatrice most likely filled her diary about you and all the activities the two of you did. She can’t really let go about what you did for her, she’s always thinking “They’re so sweet, they helped me with everything and yet they don’t want money in return or even a kiss!”. For Beatrice, it’s hard to find people like you in Bullworth since it’s like a territory for people that are future murderers and drug dealers.
- She’d give you some juicy gossip that she heard from most students, you loved hearing the over exaggeration in her voice because it made it more entertaining.
- Beatrice would be in a swirl of emotions whenever she thinks you’re giving her signs that you like her back which keeps her up all night.
- How it started: You started off as a quiet comfort and a close friend of Bucky. Someone who sat next to him in the cafeteria without making a big deal out of it. Someone who asked how he was and actually waited for an answer. Someone who gave him a second granola bar when he clearly forgot to pack lunch. “Y’know you didn’t have to buy me anything right?” “Yeah but I can’t leave my friend starving, especially when they forget to pack their lunch.” You joked, playfully punching his arm, not too hard though. What you did made him pause though, he didn’t really expect someone to be kind to him unless they needed a favor from him, or they just did it to use him for something.. But you? You were just kind. Without any expectations, you didn’t need anything from him, you were just there for him.
- Why/how they are in denial: VERY BIG DENIAL. Bucky was pacing back in forth in his room while fidgeting with his hands because this whole feeling was overwhelming yet not common to him. Yet, your acts of kindness had gotten to him, he curses himself whenever he keeps thinking about it. “They’re just being nice, Bucky. Why are you being this way? Maybe they just care about me and I’m being an idiot, maybe this is a feeling of a new way of trusting others?” He didn’t want to accept that it was a crush because he wouldn’t know what to do, how to keep calm, how to stay nonchalant towards you when all he is a nerdy mess that can’t even handle socialization because of everyone in school. But, when he finally realizes “Oh Gods, oh no no no-“
- How he acts: He would smile whenever you walk in a room or whenever you walk towards him to hang out, he’s practically head over heels for you at this point. Like Beatrice, gives excuses to hang out with you even though some of them aren’t even true “I heard you need help with Algebra?” “I didn’t really need help with algebra but you can help me if you wanna.” He’d get embarrassed if he gets caught lying but you let him spend some time with you anyway. He’d sometimes bump into things because of course, he’d be distracted because of you and one time he even bumped into a jock, but you stood up for him and thank goodness he didn’t get out with a bruise or even a scratch.
- He introduced you to his grandma at some point, she baked both of you some cookies. Pretty sure she even knows due to Bucky talking about you.
- Bucky would sometimes forget his scarf or his jacket whenever it’s winter so you have to hand him yours, he really appreciates it but insists. But sometimes it’s even the opposite, you try to insist but Bucky just gives you his jacket/scarf
- How it started: It was raining. A sudden, nasty downpour. Thad had no umbrella. He’d lost his coat earlier that week (it had “mysteriously vanished” from the locker room, a greaser probably took it), and he was outside helping Cornelius carry something for science class. You rushed over in the middle of the storm and gave him your jacket without a second thought. “You’ll get sick if you keep walking around like this in the middle of a storm, you idiot.” You said while putting the hood on his head then his shoulders. Thad paused, he felt his heart stop when he faced you, you weren’t cold, you had this stern look in your eyes that scolded him for his ignorance. “Let’s hurry inside, where are ya headed to?” “Uh.. Library.” He felt so awkward and he could feel himself freezing in place. He wore your jacket like a cape while rainwater dripped from his nose, letting a crooked smile appear on your face as you escort him to the library. “Y’know, y’gotta keep that project clean unless you want it all soaked.” Thad just nods in response— When you both arrive at the library, Cornelius had to pull him in the library before he could say Thank you and give your jacket back, since he was taking too long and stood there like an idiot.
- Why/how they are in denial: Kinda in denial that he just tries to ignore his feelings because they might interfere with his ways in life, if his older brother knew? Then he’d get teased for life that even his parents might know. He just dismisses it as an act of kindness but all he can think of was how you looked during that stormy night. He keeps trying to ignore his feelings but whenever you’re there, it just comes back and his heart starts racing like crazy.
- How he acts: A pure, yet nonchalant mess. He remembered sweating whenever he faced you to ask help for something when he had no one to resort to especially group projects. He’d make sure to get to you before the jocks, preps, or even the greasers get to him just so he can do all the work. And your jacket? It’s still with him, he sometimes brings it with him and keeps it in his bag most of the time. He wants to give it back but every time he tries to he’s a mess, he’s shaking, sweating, he can’t even keep still. Would give you small glances across the room, whenever you’re near, he quickly walks away which causes him to plant his face on a locker. He begged Cornelius to tell him what to do, what to even say because he could just slam his head on a brick wall.
- Thad wore your jacket once because it was another rainy day. When you saw him, he instantly started apologizing for forgetting to give it back, you either forgave him and told him you could give it another day or you made him keep it. “You can keep it, it looks good on ya anyway, fits yer style.” You said with a small smile before patting him on the shoulder and walking away. Thad became slightly red and was screaming internally.
“THEY GAVE ME THEIR JACKET. THEIR LITERAL JACKET. THE SAME ONE THEY PUT ON WHEN IT WAS RAINING HOLY CRAP”
- His brother soon found out though, he had a fun time making fun of his brother but also supported him.

- How it started: It was lunch and Donald had his books with him, as soon as he stepped in some jock purposely bumped into him causing all of his papers to scatter around the place and his books getting soaked into a small puddle of water, what made it more embarrassing is that Edna scolded him for “being an idiot”. He could hear the snickers and laughs, along with the quiet chatters of students which made him feel humiliated. Nobody bothered to help until you came, without hesitation you kneeled down to help him gather some of the papers he had dropped– you didn’t laugh at him, you didn’t even let out a smirk, you were just.. Calm through it. You finally gathered all of his papers along with a soaked book and handed it to him before saying “Hey, it’s fine. Don’t let it ruin your day. He was a jerk and this was all an accident so you don’t need to feel embarrassed.” You gave him a small smile before going back to where your friends were. And that? That made Donald freeze.
- Why/How they were in denial: Donald thought you were being nice to him just so you can gather sensitive information from him and spread it all around the school like what they do. He clearly despised his feelings, not you, he just didn’t see it clearly. “I bet they’re gonna hurt me too, maybe even bully me!” Yeah, Donald has a bit of a problem. I mean he literally has a list of people he’ll get revenge on someday— you’re not on the list though. He had a conversation with Cornelius one time and he was just denying everything. But your kindness made him feel warm, and he hates it.
Cornelius: “I think you have a crush on them, Donald.”
Donald: “No I don’t-! I absolutely despise them and their fake kindness like all of those pests out there-“
Cornelius: “Sure, keep saying that to yourself.”
- How he acts: Usually grumpy towards you but he’s sarcastic, he just cracks small little jokes around you but after that he walks away, so basically short convo and then walks away. He sometimes avoids eye contact but when you’re not looking? He’s just staring at you and Cornelius or Melvin would point it out while teasing him. He keeps denying everything but he will soon accept it.
- Donald would yap about aliens and conspiracy theories with you and if you enjoy it too? Then you both would keep talking for hours, maybe until the day ends. You’d both be sharing fun facts and some alien sightings to each other.
- Donald would ask advice from Cornelius if he doesn’t know what to do or talk about with you.
- How its started: Cornelius was practicing for a play which was Romeo and Juliet, and what’s sad is that he had to play Juliet. Yes, the role where he has a to kiss a guy and wear a dress. And you? You were casted as a background character, but you found it odd that they’d cast a guy for Juliet but if he wanted it then that’s okay. He was reciting– well, practicing his lines on an empty stage, it wasn’t really empty because you were there, just listening to him from the back of the stage since you were helping with the props. You ended up taking a break to listen to him, it’s pretty impressive for a nerd like him can do well in acting, especially theatre. He has broadway potential. “Yer Cornelius right? The guy who was casted as Juliet?” You called out before walking out of the shadows that hid your appearance from Cornelius who looked like he saw a ghost. “Uh.. Yeah, that’s me.” “Yer acting sounds really good, is it alright if I listen? Maybe I can be the judge.” You had a small yet warm smile on your face that made Cornelius feel a bit different, like his palms started sweating for some reason. He could perform for auditions but not to someone who’s willing to listen to his lines. He gave a nod and started to recite his lines with emotion— just like he practiced. You listened to him, you didn’t give any snarky comments or made fun of his voice but you actually listened, focused on his lines and his words. After his act, you applauded. Cornelius felt flattered, but he also felt another emotion that he couldn’t quite describe..
- Why/How they are in denial: Cornelius was pacing back and forth in his room, remembering the events that occurred during his practice. “They’re just being nice, they wanted to listen and maybe they wanted to hear how good it was too!” And then the next minute “But holy crap, they looked so mesmerizing.. Maybe mesmerized but that doesn’t mean anything, that’s just admiration right?” He felt like he couldn’t meet up to your standards because of course, he is a nerd and nerds barely get any girls or any attention other than being bullied around so he highly doubts his feelings towards you and dismisses them as a feeling of appreciation or mutual friendship.
- How he acts: Cornelius would ask you if you can ‘judge’ his acting whenever there’s a school play which he is definitely not trying to impress you with his acting skills. He’d wait for you whenever you haven’t arrived at the auditorium for practice. He’d miss a line because he kept glancing at you whenever you stood by for all of the background characters part, which causes the director to groan. He is a mess and he knew crushes are common but he suffered with his feelings towards you, he’d try to give excuses to see you or he’d purposely bump into you to start a small conversation with you.
- He’d help you most of the time with placements if you didn’t know what to do, he’d even help you during class.
- Cornelius is the type of guy who’d make small jokes around you to make you laugh, maybe quote some Shakespeare but if it makes you laugh.. Well, he’s a happy guy.
