when i was a tiny baby queer (aka a 24-year-old), i went to my first pride festival probably three months after i kicked ex-gay therapy to the curb and came out to my parents. being the people they are, my parents came with me. they weren’t really sure about this whole gay thing, but they loved me and wanted me to be safe and happy and wanted to be involved in what was important to me, so they came along. (i also think my mother still might have thought i might get drugged or murdered or beaten by a protester of which there were plenty.)

anyway i wanted a memento of my first pride, you know, and this one vendor was selling keyrings, and i liked it, so i bought one. do you remember those italian charm bracelets that were all the rage like 10-15 years ago? it was a keychain like that, and it had a rainbow rooster, a rainbow cat, and then just a rainbow, and so I bought it.

i run into my mom a couple of vendors over and she goes oh you bought something? what’d you get? so i showed her, and i was like, “I’m not sure why it’s a rooster and a cat. Seems kind of random. But I liked the rainbows.”

and my mom, who was some form of minister’s wife for most of my childhood and teenagerhood, stares at me like she thinks i’m joking.

“What?” i say.

Ok but any Jegulus reveal to Sirius that starts a massive argument must be a mess of mixed signals.

Like Sirius starts out yelling about how this is clearly a revenge plot to steal one of them from him. It's not clear at all who is supposed to be enacting this plot and who is being stolen. Once one of them finally get a word in edgeways and explain they're actually in a real relationship, Sirius turns to "BETRAYAL", once again making completely unclear who has betrayed him, it's most likely both of them. Both are accused of corrupting the other for varying reasons that have Regulus yelling about his already active sex life thank you very much, he's not a baby anymore.

Sirius fluctuates between insisting that they should break up and that their relationship is vaguely incestuous to being offended on both of their behalf that they didn't pick someone better, both insulting and complimenting them both at the same time. James is desperately trying to explain how they actually really like each other and also trying to lie and say they haven't had sex yet in the hopes that Sirius will relax slightly, something which makes Regulus yell about his sex life even louder because he's still stuck on Sirius saying he's "basically 12".

Oh and at some point, the whole argument switches to French and James is just lost now. This all likely takes place in front of at least the Gryffindor common room, if not the Great Hall - in the latter case, the tables start producing popcorn.

It all culminates in Sirius somehow ending up yelling about how great the two of them are, and how honestly he can't think of a better person for either of them to date, and then he hears himself and pauses, completely out of breath. And James just approaches him like you might a wild animal, hand outstretched like "Pads, are- are we okay?" And Sirius sighs dramatically and groans and says "I guess, it's fine, you guys seem happy" "but also you're never allowed to break up ever cause im not choosing between you."

James: I would never! I'd die if I broke up with Reggie

Regulus: good because if we broke up I'd have to kill you. You know too much.
