“I really like it. It’s pretty.” The boy hummed. “My hair is boring- it looks like my brothers.” He explained. He then trotted to the other side of the bed, seemingly liking moving. “What happened to your hips?”

…Totty nearly choked. “M… my hips. Right! Um, a car ran over my hips. And crushed them both.” Yep, nice save there, Todomatsu. Very nice save.

The boy frowned at that. "That sounds scary..." He muttered. "I'm sorry a car hurt you like that." He confirmed, walking around the room, looking around.

“Yeah, cause it’s messing up m'lungs…” He explained, but then jumped off the bed and trotted over, poking a lock of the elders hair. “I like your hair.” He spoke, changing the topic without a care.

Totty wanted to say something about that, but paused when he was complimented. He laughed, “T-thank you! I had it done when I was fourteen years old.” He figured he meant the coloring of it, not the length. “And then after that, I… kinda let it grow out. I had to dye it again after that.”

“Which doctor? I have a few…” He questioned, but then stopped and shook his head. “No, t'doctors told my parents that I wasn’t gonna get better.” He explained. “They think I’m gonna die soon.”

Totty immediately felt like an idiot. He blinked a few times and stared at the wall, trying to think of something comforting to say. …he couldn’t think of anything. “Die…?” His voice seemed to crack. This was too sad.

“That’s not bad. At least you’ll be okay.” He smiled, shifting. “I got… Bad stuff in my chest- so I gotta stay here.” He explained, shrugging. “But it’s okay- the nurses are really nice to me and give me candy.” This seemed to cheer him up.

“Aw, I’m sorry. At least the nurses are nice! I like them too. And I really like the doctor. He’s a good guy, huh?” Totty smiled softly. “I’m sure you’ll be able to get outta this place someday.”

"Which doctor? I have a few..." He questioned, but then stopped and shook his head. "No, t'doctors told my parents that I wasn't gonna get better." He explained. "They think I'm gonna die soon."

Choromatsu yawned quietly, moving over to sit at the foot of the elders bed, canting his head to the side. “I dunno how long I’m gonna be here, but I have been here for almost a year.” he paused. “Are you sick, Mister?”

A whole year…? That was sad. Totty’s eyes seemed to widen a bit and he shook his head. “Nah. I… uh. My hips are crushed. Can’t move them at all. The doctor says I’m stuck here for roughly two to three months…? Possibly more.”

"That's not bad. At least you'll be okay." He smiled, shifting. "I got... Bad stuff in my chest- so I gotta stay here." He explained, shrugging. "But it's okay- the nurses are really nice to me and give me candy." This seemed to cheer him up.

His door had been opened, not by a nurse, but by a small child. He wore the hospital gowns, but they had little animals printed on them– probably an attempt to entertain a child. The boy wasn’t wearing shoes either. He was pale and thin but seemed pretty energetic.

“You’re new?”

“Oh. Um… y… yes. I am!” Totty admitted with a small shrug of his shoulders. He leaned forward a little to get a better look at the child and frowned, taking in his appearance. The poor thing. “I’m gonna be in here for a while. What about you?”

That surprised him. Most kids wouldn’t say that. He frowned and he hugged him “You won’t know if you don’t try…” To be honest, Choro always hated this part of his job. Children this young who can’t make it, he always try so hard to get them better.

“Trying hasn’t done anything...” he was tired. Tired and lonely and just flat out sad. He was trying to be optimistic, but that was easier said than done. “It just keeps getting worse...”

“Really?” he questioned, sounding excited but also untrusting. Was there a catch here..? “That would be great!” he hoped he was up for that. Some days he didn’t even want to get out of bed. His enthusiasm seemed to be getting to him though before the grin on his face was broken by a rather long fit of coughing before he looked back up, flashing a weak thumbs-up.

❝Mhm. I did promise to play with you.❞ The nurse however was alarmed when he had a coughing fit. He hurried over to him, rubbing his back. He got the thumbs up of course but that still didn’t make him worry any less. He pets him on the head ❝Wanna drink something?❞

Even if he said it was okay, a nurse has to be worried and has every right to be all the time. His condition wasn’t getting better at all and he fears for every little fiber of his being. ❝Would you like to come here every day then, Matsuno-kun?❞ He smiles.

Choro laughed with him but tilts his head when he stopped. He smiled, hugging the other close and rubbing his back ❝You don’t have to thank me, Matsuno-kun.❞ He kissed the side of his head ❝Now… how about we continue playing catch? Then we’ll go back in and have a little snack. Sounds good?❞
