The guy in the picture is Aydian Dowling and he is trans. He’s in a competition to be on the cover of Men’s Health, and it would just be amazing if he won. Not only does he deserve it, but it would be HUGE for a transgender man to be on the cover of a widely popular magazine. He is currently in 9th place!! Angie is a therapy dog who comes into the library and lets kids read to her so that kids who are struggling with reading can gain confidence. Every time I’ve seen her in the library she’s always wagging her tail for the kids and is very attentive.

Parents of very young trans children

Parents often wonder how to speak to their young children about such big issues. Usually you are engaging with them because they have made their feelings known.

For ages prior to puberty: remind them they are loved always. State that you are so happy they know they can speak to you about anything at all. Give them language by teaching them what the word transgender is. Join a support group if there is one near you.

We often say to kids: there are transgender children all over the world, in every country, in every state and culture. It’s a natural part of the population and you are great for sharing your feelings! Reassurance goes a long way.
