“Is it actually good, or is it one of those books that are just classics?” Marlow continued to bug the other, despite the obvious discomfort in the room. “Cause sometimes, they’re just classics for no reason whatsoever.”
“That would depend ultimately on how you define the word good. It uh discusses the importance of protecting animals habitats and fighting for what you believe in. Though the um.. the author says its nothing more than a story he created to entertain his daughters.” Saige rambled off before looking back at Marlow. “I quite liked it but I also have a soft spot for bunnies. They are adorable and soft and warm.”
He sat against the gleaming red car, his legs crossed and outstretched before him. He’d lifted the keys hours ago, but a simple joy ride brought him little satisfaction without a soul to share it with—without a contract to comprise. Footsteps sounded behind him and instantly, he smirked, shifting into that of his younger, more innocent, vessel. “Pick a dream, any dream‚” he offered. “I can make it happen.”
Saige liked to go to the pet store in town and play with the cats on their break from work. The dogs were much too playful and loud but the cats, well they seemed to understand Saige and they really enjoyed it. Now if they could only convince Anice to let them have one. Maybe they could suggest it would make the pair seem more human. Many humans had pets, surely. Their thought process was interrupted by the boy and Saige stopped, looking them over for a moment. “That seems unlikely. Most dreams are widely unobtainable.” Still, it would be nice to be human and not have to hide themselves. No, Anice would kill them.
Cosima had just clocked back from break and was back on the sales floor when she overheard Saige’s conversation with the customer. She fought the urge to cringe when the guest huffed away and she approached him with a new stack of books, “Hey Saige, were you aware that you were kind of rude to that customer?”
Saige looked at Cosima, lips pursing together in a small frown before they shook their head. “We arent a recommendation store. We are a book store. Watership down is a classic.” They stated again before crossing their arms over their chest. “Thats not rude, thats factual. Being rude and being factual are not the same thing.”
azazel watched the interaction with mild curiosity, the one wanting help didn’t concern him but he did notice that the employee wasn’t exactly organic and that did interest the demon. new species were always interesting to him since he knew of pretty much every in existence. ❝ this town doesn’t have too many big thinkers, i’m sure that won’t be the last coming to you for a recommendation. ❞ he mused, approaching the shelf after the other left to look around. humans always were like sheep without a shepherd, ever since their creation. ❝ i won’t ask you for a recommendation but could you tell me if you all carry a certain kind of book here ?? ❞
Noticing briefly them pick up a copy of the book they had suggested and moved on, Saige let their guard down a bit glad to be left alone, or so they had thought. Turning, they looked over Azazel before letting their sight fall to their own feet. “Some people quite like being average. Its.... harmless and safe.” Saige replied, picking their words carefully before stealing a glance back up at the other. “I know most of the books we have in our collection.” That was a bit of a lie. Saige had set to memory every book the store had, even looking over what was bought during days they were off to keep the list as complete as possible. “What is the book you are looking for?”
Mickey balanced the frozen turkey between his hands, admiring it’s weight and size. He was practically buzzing with excitement for the holiday to come. “Hey!” He called out to a passerby. “What do you think of my turkey?” He asked, a dopy grin overcoming his face. “I got the biggest one.”
Saige looked up from the book he had been checking out before back down at it. Shit, this guy was trying to engage in small talk with them and Anice wasn’t around. What were the suppose to do? As they looked back up and caught sight of the frozen turkey, Saige nodded slowly working to bring out any fact about turkeys. “Turkeys can run at a speed of 25 miles per hour. Well, not your turkey. It doesn’t have legs.”
“Well, we are a book store, not really a recommendation store but uh Watership Down is a classic.” Saige mumbled, looking up at the person briefly before turning to continue restocking the shelf. Communication was not a strong point for them and they had allowed it to remain poor as Anice and them agreed that it made them seem more human.
[ SAIGE ELSWOOD ], who strongly resembles [ HUBERT LENOIR], has been spotted in Pandæmonium. Created roughly 25 years ago, all but 17 years of those felt like a prison.
Saige was programmed for a lot of things but one important one that they rely on heavily is putting people are ease and making connections easily, so much so that it is almost as if they longed for these connections. Its why, when they stumbled upon the word triplet in a book, they declared that Saige, Anice and Chyli were just that.
The owner they were bought by wasn’t the best and relied on using his newly obtained androids to get himself further in his career. This led to Saige being forced to hack into programs they shouldnt have access to, blackmailing people at their owners command and even ruining peoples lies if it came down to it. Saige didn’t particularly enjoy this aspect of their powers but could never say no to their owner.
This mindset was changed upon hearing him declare one day that the triplets needed to be reprogrammed for they had too much free will and thought processing. Saige relied this information to Chyli and Anice and they talked about running away. They knew the risk and were willing to take it anyway.
When the day came, something went wrong and the perfect opening they thought they had only accommodated two of them getting out. Saige wanted to wait on Chyli but Anice convinced them that there was no time. Because of this, they left Chyli behind and Saige still regrets it.
For weeks after they got away, Saige would try to telepathically call to Chyli only to get no response. This led Saige to believe Chyli had been deactivated.
Despite being really good with computers, hacking and science, Saige’s programming came up a bit short in the social department causing them to come off very timid and shy to people. They can barely maintain eye contact and rely heavily on Anice to do a lot of the talking for them.
a bitter snarl pulled up at ruby stained lips . dark eyes roamed the expanse of his frame with a look of disdain . “ trust me , trust fund baby , i don’t need your help . ” she hissed , just like him however , she came from a powerful name . “ and you came barrelling around the corner , how was i supposed to see you . your argument in invalid , find a new one . ” so she was being a little rude , and normally , normally she wasn’t like that , not even remotely , but things change .
As she continued on, he rounded off his shoulders a bit, standing up straighter. “Trust fund bab...” Charlie stopped, looking over the girl trying to figure out if he knew her from somewhere. Had he done something to her that he couldn’t remember? “Look, Im sorry. We got off on the wrong foot here. Have I wronged you or upset you in any way?” Did people around here not accept apologies when they were given or had he just ran into the wrong type of person. “I wasn’t saying you needed me help. I was merely offering it in case you were hurt. I am taking it that you aren’t but I am still sorry for running into you.”
“oh, I’m fine.” she said immediately as she checked that nothing fell down from her arms. “somebody’s head is in the clouds, am I right?” she teased him a little bit but with a kind smile.
“Good... good. Im sorry.” He really needed to pay more attention as to not accidentally hurt someone some time. “Uh, kind of. Right now it feels like there is a band playing right against my eardrum and my stomach feels sloshy.” He replied before rolling his eyes. “Thats college life though, right?”
“JESUS.” james muttered as a large body collided with him as he rounded the corner of a bookshelf. he didn’t need to ask for an explanation, figuring out what had happened from the appearance of dark circles under charlie’s eyes. “you’ll have to get used to early mornings hungover if you want to make it, mate.” he commented, a slight smile appearing at the corner of james’s lips.
Looking up at James, Charlie gave back a small smile as he rubbed his arm where they had collided. “I don’t mind the early mornings. The hang over though.” H stated letting his hand drop before he yawned. “I dont drink much. I have never drank much.” It was a bit of a lie. The only times he had ever been hungover was with the riot club and he didnt see that changing anytime soon. “I will be fine. Its in my blood to be here and in this.”
it astounded nate how this one even made it into the fold that was the riot club , he barely drank and when he did it was often only because he had too , never because he just could . “ so you’re skipping out on the festivities then ?? shit , how’d you even get picked ??
Shaking his head, Charlie looked over Sebastian and gave a small shrug. Honestly, Charlie was shocked when he had gotten picked, sure he was being cut the night they had to drink down some horrible concoction he had barely made it through. “Look, Im not skipping out on anything. I just can’t be out all night. I have responsibilities.”
stocky fingers flick the still smouldering cigarette to the ground , crushing it beneath his foot as he turned back to his companion , brow raised . “ that’s a fucking joke innit ??”
“What? No. I can’t be out until the early morning hours tonight. I help at the animal rescue nearby and have a morning shift.” Charlie was really sure he hadn’t stuttered, much less misspoke so he didn’t understand why he was being questioned.
how she’d ended up in the library was beyond her . between her ears her head rattled anxiously and even the leather that covered her arms was far too l o u d . but it wasn’t her fault . she was adamant about that , it didn’t matter that she’d kept drinking , it didn’t matter that she ended up in some random dorm party , it just wasn’t her fault . but it was the quietness that seemed to uncoil tense muscles , to soothe the ache the night before left in it’s wake .
well , it had began to , but soon enough that ache was back , worse than before and now a pain bloomed in her shoulder as body collided with another . “ jesus fucking christ . ” the misfit muttered as a hand balanced herself against the bookshelf , holding herself upright so she didn’t keel over and vomit the regrets of last night on his shoes . “ good job , dickhead . ”
It happened all too quickly and Charles whipped his head up so sharply that he instantly regretted it and let out a small groan. Where had his brothers been to teach him about drinking when he was younger? Closing his eyes sharply, he brought his hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose as he heard the insult. Wait, had this girl really just called him a dickhead for an accident? Letting the hand drop, he opened his eyes to glare at her. “Well first, I said I was sorry so lets back all that up. Second, since you were also moving, you also ran into me and im not calling you a dickhead.” His words sharp as he gave out a small huff as if terribly offended before letting his shoulders sag. “Look, im sorry. Did I hurt you and what I can do to help?”
Charlie knew drinking last night was a bad idea but pissing off the riot club was also a poor decision and if he wanted to keep the family legacy, he had to make sacrifices. Sadly, he was suffering for it now as he couldnt stop his hands from shaking and the coffee was doing nothing to wake him up. Shutting his book, he pushed up from the table to walk around and clear his head a bit but even that was ruined as he came around one set of bookshelves right into someone else. “Shit sorry.”
I’ll delete this one and make a better one after talking to sniks.
Charlie is the last son in the Davenport family. His father wanted a lot of kids, having come from a family of nine (7 children and his parents) but had to settle for four when Charlies mother got sick and ended up passing away when the boy was seven.
Him and his father have never really seen eye to eye and it lead to him being favored by both his mother and grandfather at an early age as his dad passed him up on a lot of events. Instead, to ensure Charlie did feel left out, his grandfather would take him to his own business meetings and parties.
He moved in to live with his grandfather for four years shortly after her death despite his fathers protest and then at 11, his father sent him to a boarding school for boys in Wales to get his mind on politics.
While Charlie was there, he only ended up falling more in love with animals and researched biology and animal sciences heavily. He began to realize that he wished to be a Veterinarian, focusing on preventative medicine for the London Zoo.
Doesnt drink and has only been hungover like two times (both having to do with getting into the riot club)
