MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BF!NOM LORE
Insane yap session about Nom’s lore and character. Im going insane because of this SMP omg
I love Nom’s character so much, the way we have seen him at the beginning having this ‘mask’ on, being a brave and loyal knight for Blue and as the SMP has pogressed and the story evolves, the mask has cracked if not almost completely broken.
There are so many layers to Nom and that is so cool and I love it. Like yeah here is a knight that swears his loyalty to the Blue Kingdom. But actually no, here is a knight that gave up his life, his dreams and wants, to become a knight only for his sister… and then she left and he couldn’t follow, he couldn’t see this sister that he gave up everything for just to protect her and try and make sure she is okay.
At 17/18 years of age he made an oath to always follow the monarch’s orders and hedid because he had nothing else, his parents were gone and his sister left and all he had ever known was how to be a knight, what else was he to do? So he followed every order, fought in wars, killed people and for what?
Then he gets sent on a mission to kill someone, surely thats no different than any other time right? But he is innocent, Nom has to kill an innocent person because someone with a crown told him too but he cant do that. So he makes a choice for himself to save him but to do that he had to betray the very Kingdom in which he grew up in, the only home he has ever known. He murdered 15 of his fellow knights to save an innocent person and he doesnt regret it, I mean how could he? He did the right thing but still it haunts him. He broke his oath, he is a failure of a knight but he doesnt regret it because he kept true to himself. He saved 4C and gained a friend, a brother. He finally had someone to protect, someone who he can trust. He vows never to pick up the weapon used to betray his Kingdom, not because it was used to betray his home but because he didn’t want to be the Knight, the person, he was when he wielded that weapon. That weapon ended so many lives in his hands and he doesn’t want to do that, he wants to protect the people he loves, sure, but having that weapon means being the person that can and will just kill people, being the person that ended so many lives.
Nom takes 4C back to Blue, because where else could he go, this is the only home he has ever known and he hasn’t traveled much. But when they are in Blue, he is in such a bad way about what happened, when someone he trusts (Graecie) sees him and asks him questions he tells her everything but swears them to secrecy to protect not only himself but also 4C.
He carries on, not in the same way as before, now he has someone to protect, a secret to keep and a weapon buried on a hill he tries so hard not to think about. He still acts as a knight, now not aimlessly following every order but still protecting his home. He keeps the secret close to his chest, not just because hebroke his oath but also because if it were found out, the one person he truly trusts and cares about is in danger andhe cannot have someone else leave. So he carries on as best he can but always has memories of that mission, every time he looks at the hill he gets reminded of the weapon and how easy it was to kill and how powerful he was when he had it but he drowns it out, he doesnt listen because he is not that person anymore, he cant be. That person was too dangerous and too powerful.
But then the battle happens and hardly anyone is left. His homes is partially destroyed but he still has his brother. He meets new people and then his sister turns up. Hes standing there on the bridge and just stares at his sister, the one who left without even saying goodbye, no explanation no ‘im sorry’ nothing.
But they reconnect, they start talking like siblings again and it is hard but they do it. They argue, they fight but it always works out because neither of them want to lose the other again.
Until the secret gets out, his sister knows. He fought so hard to keep it from her, to protect 4C and himself. They just started talking again and now his sister, who thinks being a knight and being loyal to your Kingdom is the most important thing, knows that he is a failure of a knight and a brother. He couldn’t protect Katie and she left, he failed to follow his oath and he is no longer a ‘proper’ knight. All the feelings he has had since the mission, all of the thoughts he has of himself, his sister will now see and he is so scared. In his mind he sees himself in such a bad way that he cannot even think of a scenario where Katie doesn’t also see him like that, how could she not? How would his little sister look at him after 3 years apart and be proud of the person he became? He can’t see that Katie doesn’t care about what he has done, she only cares for him. She cares for her big brother and just wants him back, she just wants to be sibling again. But he cannot see that because he had such a terrible view of himself.
He realises that someone he trusts has betrayed him and shared his secret. He only ever trusted 2 people to know, 4C because he was there and Graecie because she was there for him when he went back. In his mind, it could inly be one of them. Nom trusts 4C so much, he cannot fathom 4C telling anyone because it, first of all, can put his own life at risk but also because he has seen how badly it affected Nom. 4C knows how much Nom trusts him and how little he trusts everyone else because no one has ever earned his trust. He has seen Nom at the worst of times and stuck with him and so in Nom’s mind it cannot possibly be 4C, so it must be Graecie.
And that hurts so much, he trusted her enough to tell her and she has betrayed him. She promised she would never speak a word of it but she must of, she had to of. He is so confused, angry and so hurt that he lashes out, he shouts and hurts her because heis hurting. He thought he could trust her but he was wrong. She denies it over and over and that just adds to thehurt that Nom is feeling because why can’t she just be honest? Why is she lying to him when it has to be her?
He speaks to 4C about it because Nom knows he can trust him and 4C promises it wasn’t him and of course Nom believes him, why would he not? 4C is confused and hurt because why would Graecie, someone who he has also come to trust, say their biggest secret?
Nom is so hurt and angry and upset. He thinks he just lost his sister again and he cannot do that, not again. He mindlessly walks to the hill, to the weapon and is so close to taking it and being so powerful that he would be able to protect himself and the people he loves (4C and Katie) from whatever consequences may arise if/when more peole find out. But he stops himself because he promised himself after that day to never use it again, so he moves it far away so he doesn’t have to listen to it anymore. He doesn’t have to remember that day every time he looks at the mountains surrounding his home.
He hides away for 4 days in the forest because he doesnt know how to face anyone. How can he look at Graecie again after she betrayed him so badly? How could he look at 4C knowing that he is not safe anymore now that some people know, because if Graecie told Katie then why wouldn’t she tell others or why wouldn’t Katie tell Red? He is scared that 4C could look at him with upset or annoyance that Nom had told someone in a weak moment and because of that he may not be safe in the Kingdom anymore. And how could he look at his sister after this? She will think of him as a lesser person, as a failiure. She wouldn’t want to be his sister anymore, not after knowing what he did, all the work they did to reconnect and be siblings again was shattered just like that.
Now he has only 4C left. In his mind his sister is gone again, Graecie betrayed him and he is so scared to truly trust anyone else. But that is okay because 4C has given him no reason to not trust him and he has stuck by his side through thick and thin. He will always protect Katie and make sure she is okay but he is scared that the next time he talks to her will be Katie telling him that she doesnt want to talk to him anymore, she doesnt want to be siblings and he cannot and will not put himself through that. Nom would not get through that. He has his brother and for now, that is okay. He has someone he cant trust wholeheartedly and has proved time and time again that he will be there for Nom. He may not have his blood family by his side anymore but as long as he has his own chosen brother by his side, he may be able to get through this…
