               OBI - WAN  IS      slowly  eating  through  one  of  the  bits  of  rations  he  has      (      the  other  carefully  saved  for  bail      )      ,  eyes  unfocused  on  the  fire ,  half - meditating ,  when  he  hears  the  shift  of  a  body ,  feels  the  force  vibrate  slightly  with  the  waking  of  his  companion .  immediately  obi - wan  moves ,  a  hand  coming  to  rest  on  bail’s  shoulder .  

              ❝    i’m  here ,    ❞  he  assures  softly .  ❝    try  not  to  move  too  quickly .  how  are  you  feeling … ?    ❞

bail   lies   still  ,    considering   his   answer.      fever   no   longer   rages   through   his   blood  ,    fogging   his   thoughts  ,    but   neither   does   he   feel   entirely   well.        “      sore  ,      ”        he   at   last   determines  ,         “      and   weak.      but   not   at   death’s   door.      ”

unexpectedly  ,    even   to   himself  ,    bail’s   mouth   curves   up   at   one   corner  ,    rueful   and   faintly   affectionate.        “      you   remind   me   of   my   daughter.      i   don’t   know   if   you   have   met   leia   yet  ,    but   you   and   she   have   the   same   warrior’s   heart.      i   have   appreciated   that   in   you   since   the   day   i   met   you.      ”

             there is unending affection in her eyes as they hold bail’s gaze.  ❛  he is learning to find joy again,  ❜  she responds to the unspoken hope resting in his heart.  magnolia understands obi-wan will never fully heal from that level of sorrow.  who could?  it will always shadow their lives,  but she trusts,  in time,  it will get easier to bear.  ❛  i only wish i could see you more often.  ❜

“      i   hope   that   in   time  ,    that   will   be   possible.      ”        the   words   are   uncertain  ,    but   ring   true.        he   does   hope   that   one   day  ,    yoda’s   belief   that   the   children   will   bring   light   back   to   the   galaxy   will   come   to   pass      --      and   that   none   of   them   will   have   to   hide   anymore  ,    and   he   and   mags   can   be   together   as   often   as   they   once   were.
