Some more Sebastian and Patrick drawings! I just wanted an excuse to draw Seb depressed in his boxers and an affectionate Pat. Hopefully I'll write more for these two!
so. i had this pretty old idea rolling around in my head for a while...
What if i told you that i made Patrick Bateman's good twin (get it bcuz he's the evil twin... i swear this isn't crack pot theory) out of boredom but also the morbid curiosity about whether you could actually give the same message about an actual "happy camper" rather than making some boring, plain, "morally good" and sanitised version of Patrick that carries none of the satire or the collateral damage.
Think of it as Patrick's persona being an actual guy who happened exist in the Ellis-verse... who happens to be just as pathetic as Patrick and just as pretty darn weird... in a mostly harmless way.
Now— keep reading, and I might consider YOUR headcanons (yes, YOURS!!) for this guy so we can expand him more as his own character rather than just being "Patrick, but ✨Morally Pure✨..."
His name is Elliot Spencer. (i initially called him "Yippee Bateman" beforehand but yall can call him that as a nickname if you want xD)
Likeeee, erm, he's also white, wealthy and privileged— because he's more of a twin in terms of social class— but he also looks exactly like Patrick. like, almost exact...
... but unlike Patrick, he's a bit older— like, 31 years old (at around Patrick's prime of 27 yrs old in 1987)
The lady next to him is Mara Grimes, she's going to be for another post for a different day...
My initial idea was this guy kept getting mistaken for Patrick (like how Paul Allen/Owen kept mistaking Patrick for Marcus Halberstram) except instead of being blindly trusted, he's treated like the creepy weirdo that Patrick's 'friends' ought to have realised a loooong time ago (but didn't give a shit about pointing out bcuz they're too absorbed in their own lives...)
The irony in this is that, well, people already know that Patrick is a weirdo. They just keep mistaking him for someone else when he's actually in the room. So, Elliot ends up being the guy who gets Patrick's dirt kicked in his face whenever he's around.
In response, Elliot treats this regular passive aggression coming his way like actual friendly fire, despite his ass being verbally dragged through the mud.
Truth is, unlike Patrick, he's genuinely harmless and just a rich dork who's kinda autistic about skyscrapers (I like to think that he probably has Asperger's). He's also so pathetic that he gets bullied by random people on the street if he ever goes to downtown New York (he literally cannot go alone at night bcuz he can't fend for himself from muggers) bcuz his clothes go "look at me!! I'm a rich Wall Street guy!! Look!!" and combined with the way he yaps he gets mocked for it.
Now, Elliot isn't actually an idiot (despite it rhyming with his name.)
He studied at some fancy pants prep school (don't know where, feel free to drop suggestions) did his Bachelor's in John Hopkins and did his post-grad at Cambridge— probably in Business in both of those universities. BUTTT this made him very socially sheltered for a quite a while in his life, so he was not primed for being stereotypically charismatic and suave like his other fellow bachelors are.
Here is part that will raise some eyebrows.
This guy has two pet rats. He treats them like they're his sons. Their names are Valentino and Clarence (one has a shiny black coat and the other is an albino respectively.)
And i know you must be going, "FAYE??? WHAT THE FUCK?? IS THIS A REFERENCE TO THE RATS FROM THE BOOK??"
Yes. Yes, it is.
Anyway, he hires prostitutes because he's lonely. What does he do with them? He makes pasta before they arrive and gets a movie ready (like uhmmm something like Indiana Jones or Back to the Future... idk man, I'm not that great with actual popular films in the 80s) and some orange juice. And with those, he tries to make conversation with them and stuff. Oh, and, rightfully so, a lot of those girls walked in HIGHLY suspicious of the buffet— and even more suspicious when he pays for their cab fare. But hey, I would be suspicious too if I was paid to watch a movie and eat free food too, y'know?
Erm, as an end note, I guess he's an actual Mr. Artsy-Fartsy— like, full on jumping up down and excited for the newest exhibition at the MoMA or the Met. He doesn't really buy art for his own home because he doesn't trust anyone outside the gallery to take care of the artist's work, unless it was a public installation or something. Thing is, Elliot wanted to study art history in uni (art was his fav subject in high school) but his parents were like "Elliot Lovecraft Spencer, we are NOT funding your education just so you can sell finger paintings as a result of your tertiary education."
But ummm.. yeah! That's Elliot guys. Hope this doesn't flop...
