❄ The rain changed from gentle mist to a downpour. Soaked and chilled, Lenta ran deeper into the woods . Her legs felt like jelly and the ground shifted beneath her feet. Lenta went sprawling and felt something snap inside as she landed on her shoulder. Searing pain made her vision go red for a moment. Struggling to her feet when she could breathe again, her head throbbed as the world shifted and elongated. Dizzily, Lenta careened into a tree. Waiting for the world to stop spinning, she heard the sound of pursuit. Echoes from howling dogs eerily distorted among the trees. Terrified Lenta ran wildly, crawling through bushes and rolling in the mud to hide her scent. ((Where go?)) There were too many sounds and the world wouldn’t stop spinning. Lenta tried to climb a tree but she just ended up falling. Not able to judge the distance or get a good grip. Someone was close. Their power made her head pound painfully.
Clutching her head as she keened in pain, Lenta searched frantically for a place to hide. Spotting the deep crack-like opening in the tree, Lenta stuffed herself inside. Crawling as far in as she could. Outside the tree, she could hear someone…. Her head hurt so bad she cried out and she clutched it. The spider was here. Calling out to her. Trying to tempt her to come out. Holding out his hand, It flickered into the creepy spider leg then back into a hand… her hand ‘..your Adda and Atar love you. Come out. Let’s go home..’ Pressing herself as far back as she could, Lenta couldn’t look away from the butterflies beautiful hand. Long fingers tipped with long nails all painted and pretty with glittering crystals. She wanted to trust her. To be taken in and loved but then she saw the icor under the pretty nails. “…noOoooo…” Lenta wailed as she swatted the spider’s hand away. Not wanting the vile thing to be near her.
Lenta felt rage and despair as the monster teasing her about what she had lost. Adda and Atar would never take her back. She had lost them and Rosie. Tears fell as Lenta whimpered and whined. Her head felt like the strongman was squeezing it. Begging and pleading that she was sorry, Lenta tried to stop Tornkeel from crushing her head as he dragged her into the open. It hurt so much! “Pwease.. Lenta sorry…. no hurt Lenta. Lenta go arena…Lenta fight… no…. pwease no dogs…” But they laughed at her and pushed her closer to the spider. Behind her, there was a howl as the pack arrived. Lenta screamed, whirling around. Taking in each of the dogs stalking her. “Too many!” behind her she felt the spider move, ready to devour her. The Butterfly tried to tempt her again. Its pretty face smiling. Holding it arms out and open as if to give her a hug.
Lenta stumbled forward. She wanted a hug. Wanted to be safe…loved… She wanted her Adda, Atar and Rosie. If the spider was here then they were in danger! “NO! You no hurt! Lenta no let you!”
Her eyes went white, as fur sprouted and she started to shift. Her near ape form was formidable, faster and stronger. Leaping at the spider she rained down blow after blow but they didn't seem to connect… her strength was waning. Her head swam but still she had to try… had to protect… The spider grinned, fangs extending, ready to devour her. Black spots formed in her vision. Her arm weighed too much to lift properly. “No pider. No go circus. Lenta protect… protect Wosie… Adda… Ata…”
The Lightning flashes, blinding her for a moment. Blinking to quickly clear her vision she sees not the Spider but …. the beautiful one Rosie called “…g..gran..Adda?…” Strength gone, Lenta stumbled a step towards him and sinks to her knees. Bawling like her whole world was broken. ❄
Kat watched her, she seemed to be lost in a memory or a nightmare, and it was becoming apparent that anything he said she couldn’t hear. He never wanted to scare a child he loved them, and see one so scared of him broke his heart. He’d die for a child if it ever came to that, and now little Lenta, the new addition to his family, was so scared of him she had lost herself in that fear. Helping children was his life, and every time one was scared of him it hurt, but he couldn’t blame her, Kat knew how scary his energy was.
Kat felt her energy start to rise and then she started to transform, he backed off at her warning. “I wont hurt you or Rosie sweetheart.” He said but it fell of deaf ears as she rained down a barrage of blows. The didn’t hurt him so he let her take her anger and fear out on him.
Soon the her punches slowed, and she swayed on her feet. “No pider. No go circus. Lenta protect… protect Wosie… Adda… Ata…”
“No one is going to take you back to the circus Lenta, your safe here, and Rosie will protect you and so will Adda, Atar and me.” He said trying to calm her down some. She fell to her knees and started to bawl. Kat was to her in a second, his heart ached for her, she was so lost and scared. He picked her up and cradled her to him, trying to keep the pouring rain off of her. “Gradda is here Lenta, i’m here. I wont let anything bad happen to you.” He whispered to her, he tried to fight back tears but it was devastating to see what those monsters at the Circus had done to his new grandbaby. He held her as she cried and waited for his son to get to them. “I’m so sorry little one I wish I could take all your hurt and heartache away.”
A few moments later Julian and Cell appeared. “You found her! Thank the Gods! Lenta Adda is here sweetheart.” He said brushing her wet hair out of her face. “Lets get you out of those wet close and back in to bed, you need rest.”
Julian wanted to get a good look at her arm but first they needed to get back inside. It didn’t take long for them to get back in to the house and the storm raged on outside. Lightning streaked across the sky followed by roars of thunder, and the wind howled against the cliff side manner. It was dark out and only the lightning and the distant beckon of the lighthouse could be seen outside in the darkness.
Kat handed the small traumatized child to Julian so he could change her clothes and look at her arm. Julian scanned the arm; it was fractured, but it would be an easy fix. He held is hand over the arm and the blue light from it healed her arm. She still had a fever but he had some medicine he could give her for that. He changed her in to her new light weight night gown. “Oh little Lenta, we are so glad you’re safe and sound back home.” He told her hugging her and kissing her cheek. “My sweet, sweet little girl.” He kissed her fevered forehead again and tucked her in to his large bed but he laid down next to her. Kat was on the other side of her petting her hair soothingly and Cell sat down in the chair next to the bed. “We were so worried Lenta Rosie to, when she gets up in the morning and if you feel better you two can play, alight?” Julian asked.
Kat who was petting her hair stopped for a moment and placed Lenta’s little namekian doll in her arms. “Sleep little one, in the morning you will feel better. I love you.” He said and wrapped his tail around her. Kat was determined to keep his new grandbaby safe and happy.
❄ Overwhelmed by guilt and confusion, Lenta keened, feeling as if her heart was breaking. She had attacked someone who didn’t deserve it. Tried to hurt Rosie’s Granadda. She was a bad girl. She didn’t deserve them. Her heart hurt worse than her head. It hurt to breathe. She was a very bad girl. Suddenly Lenta was pulled out of her mental anguish when she felt herself being picked up. There was no reason to struggle, she deserved whatever punishment was coming to her. Whimpering, Lenta squeezed her eyes shut. Not wanting to see the blow coming. Only… there was no pain! She was cradled in warm arms. Held close and comforted. Granadda?!? His heart was beating so fast against her ear. Was he scared too? Had she hurt him badly? Had she scared him? She was such a bad girl. He crooned softly and spoke comforting words. He was being nice to her! He shouldn't be nice to her. She didn’t deserve it. “Sworry! Lenta no mean be bad. Sorry! S..sorry Gwanna! Pwease!”
Grabbing a hold of his shirt, Lenta buried her face against his chest as she cried. Under the scent of the rain she could smell his spicy scent and that deep cave smell of his power. Her memories screamed that he was a monster. Beautiful people always were! They hurt her. Monsters in the dark. But he was acting the opposite. Holding her close. Shielding her from the rain and whispering kind words in her ear. She had been horrible to him. Screamed and ran. Didn’t listen. Even attacked him. She was bad. Very, very bad! She didn't deserve his kindness but… Lenta didn’t want him to let her go. “..Sworry…. Lenta Sworry…. pwease….Gwanna…” Pain squeezed her heart. So hard to breathe. The memories pulled at her. How many nights had she been left out in the rain? Curled up, cold and alone in her cage. NOT ALONE! His heartbeat, the warmth of his skin and sweet voice all things that kept her here. He was her lifeline. Otherwise, she would be lost. Trapped in the darkness. Lenta clutched Rosie’s Granadda tighter. Hands grabbed her and tried to pull her into the freezing darkness away from his warmth. Screeching, Lenta clung to him tighter, wrapping her tail around his arm. She didn’t want to be taken away. Only the hands were not real. It was just them in the rain. Lenta knew she was broken. Couldn’t tell dreams from real. She shouldn't be around them. It would be safer for them. She should go. She just had to get her fingers to work. Had to make them let go. But they wouldn’t obey her. So Lenta did they only thing left to her… she cried. Cried while Rosies Grandadda whispered sweetly to her. Having cried herself to exhaustion, Lenta was dreaming when she felt warm fingers push the hair from her eyes. Whimpering, Lenta hid her face, at first the words didn’t make sense but then she recognized the voice! Adda?!? Did Adda know how bad she had been? Her heart broke all over again. Crying, Lenta latched on to Kat with the other hand. She didn’t want this to be a dream but she didn’t dare trust that it wasn’t. Granadda was real. Warm .. Startled awake, she felt him pushing her away. Groggily Lenta tried to hold on but Granadda was stronger. Fussing, Lenta kicked out and struggled as she was handed off to someone.. Who? A familiar, beloved scent and warmth surrounded her as she was cradled in strong arms. “Adda?!?” Her anxiety melted at the almost itchy touch of his magic. “Adda…” He was so blurry. Her eyes wouldn’t stay open. …sworry… She was so tired. She wanted to ask for forgiveness. Ask if she could still stay. Even as a pet. She had messed up. Attacked Granadda, How could they ever be nice to her again? Hugging her tail with the other arm, Lenta sucked on the tip of her tail. Lenta woke again as her wet clothes were taken and clean, dry clothes were put on her. Why were they being nice? Blinking in confusion. Lenta struggled to wake up as she was hugged and kissed then laid down. Afraid Julian was leaving, Lenta grabbed onto his fingers. “Pwease..” She had so many questions. Her whole world felt in question and tears stung her eyes as she waited to be punished. Why were they being nice when she had been bad?. Lenta was about to ask when someone behind her pet her hair. !?! Lenta caught the scent of Rosie’s Granadda as she turned her head to look at him. “Gwanna?” Squealing in delight, Lenta hugged her doll to her. She thought she would never see it again. When Kat spoke she looked up him with adoration as she listened. She was so very tired but she had to know. Turning back to face her Adda, Lenta hugged Kat’s tail like she hugged her own when she was afraid. She took a deep shuttering breath while she gathered her courage. She had to know. “A…Adda?… pwease.. Lenta stay? Lenta, bad Girl! Adda punish Lenta.” That thought caused her to sob and tears ran down her cheeks. “W..When punish Lenta? T..then Lenta stay? If.. A..Adda still want Lenta? Can play wif R..Rosie?” Her head and whole body hurt but her heart hurt the most, knowing how badly she messed things up. She should not have attacked. It was forbidden. Punishable by death if her Master so chose. What sort of punishment would Adda do? Her imagination had too many ideas. Afraid of the answer Lenta, hid her face as she hugged her doll and Granadda’s tail. ❄
