Holly and I always put in weird little references to each other’s books. We’ve been overlapping our universes for a long time — one of the perks of being critique partners. We even wrote a short story where the characters from her Modern Faerie Tale universe, who own a coffee shop in NYC, met up with the characters from The Mortal Instruments. There was Alec, there was Jace, there was Roibin and Kaye, it was good times.

Hi Cassie! I had a question regarding sexual diseases within the TMI universe. So.. we all know that warlocks can’t carry or pass on demon pox but are they susceptible to any other STI’s that mundanes can get? As warlocks can live for centuries surely they have been with quite a few people and would have caught quite a few if they could? — misscarstairs
I begin to be worried that my readers seem so concerned with getting demon pox. Like, what are y’all doing?
Warlocks are by and large immune to all mundane/mortal diseases. This is actually covered in The Last Stand of the New York Institute, which is set during the height of the AIDS crisis in New York. Magnus thinks about the people he knows who’ve died, and how mundane lives are short and vulnerable to disease. The implication is that his is not.
There are a few diseases that affect warlocks, but they are not human diseases. The diseases that affect demons also don’t really affect mundanes: demon pox is sort of interesting because it’s an exception. Warlocks basically can’t catch much from humans.
