So before meeting Ronaldo, Ashton had only 2 friends who were really shitty and abused him as a sick form of affection so he had a fucked up view of how affection is going into highschool. He goes in and meets Ronaldo and they become friends because they’re both weird but then Ash starts realizing Ronaldo’s being nice to him in a gentle way and not beating him up and Ashton is like “oh no I LIKE him.” so to hide that he just starts being an asshole. Mostly just empty threats but also some hitting and headlocking, y’know as a joke. Ronaldo doesn’t seem to mind but it kinda hurts when Ashton makes fun of him for flinching, or when he makes fun of him while he’s in the room. Nevertheless, he stays strong to keep this friendship in tact because he literally has no one and fights back with his gentle affection. This eventually leads to more teasing from Ashton like “What, do you like me or something?” which makes him realize… he does. He never outright answers those questions with a yes or a no which Ashton takes notice of and starts dropping the tough guy act. Over time they start becoming more affectionate but never outright committing to a relationship. Any “I love you”s follow up with “you’re my best friend” AND HISTORIANS WILL CALL THEM- so now Ronaldo hosts a party (this is the part where I insert my sona in Horror Club) and Lars’ presence is uncomfortable after hearing all of Ronaldo’s vents about his first ever friend. Ashton feels it’s the right thing to do to comfort his best friend, but it doesn’t go so well with Lars mocking the two. Ronaldo pushes Ashton back and says he can hold himself together, he doesn’t need Ashton clinging to him and playing therapist. The night goes on and Ronaldo is about to sacrifice Lars to the wall poltergeist thing. Knowing what happened and what Ronaldo said to him earlier, he starts to worry that it’s gonna come for him next, being the next “emotionally disturbed” of the group, and Ronaldo not hesitating to throw him in next. Naturally, he runs away from the scene, leaving his cape there, and ghosts Ronaldo for months. Meanwhile throughout this, Ronaldo meets Jane and has finally decided it’s time to move on. They date for about a week before breaking up over an incident. He apologizes in his own Ronaldo way and Jane forgives him, but she feels she can’t fully trust him again. -1 lover +1 friend. Timeskip to after he’s passed out in the temple. He wakes up and decides to go back to his lighthouse to continue his paranormal studies and whatnot. Ashton, hearing Ronaldo had moved in with the Crystal Gems goes to the lighthouse to get his cape back. The two cross paths, and it is awkward. The boy who used to flinch is now the one being flinched at. His longest lived friendship is scared of him. Too scared to leave when Ronaldo asks him to stay. The two stay there the whole night talking it out, taking the time to rebuild everything that broke down in an instant. Ronaldo finally admits that he loved Ashton, Ashton admits he still loves Ronaldo. They agree to make things work and try dating. Man this shit is gay as FUCK!!!
