WRITING. i tend to be more of a multi-paragraph writer but i honestly don’t care if my partners match length or not so write as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. as long as i’ve got something to work with, i don’t mind. my activity might be a bit sporadic from time to time but i always intend to get back to things i owe, no matter how long it’s been. similarly, feel free to take as long as you need. it’s a hobby not a jobby and all that. i’m just here to write and have fun, so i’m happy to wait.

FORMATTING. i generally don’t do anything fancy outside of small text and maybe bolded dialogue, so no icons or anything like that. feel free to format your posts as you like and if you need me to shift my formatting in any way whatsoever to be more accessible to you then please just let me know!

SHIPPING. it’s not closed necessarily but it’s something i primarily reserve for very close friends. shipping is far from being a priority to me and requires a lot of ooc communication and comfort on both our parts for me to feel inclined to do it. you can try asking if you have an angle you think might be interesting but please don’t take it personally if i turn you down! most of my muses are somewhere on the aroace spectrum or just in questionably codependent relationships with other characters in their canon HAHA so even then, anything is destined for the slow burn mines. i’ll have more specific shipping rules for each muse in their dossier. i’d love to develop all sorts of platonic, antagonistic, or some secret third kind of dynamics with you, though!

"I know how it sounds, but I swear it was staring at me." Now, this isn't the first chicken statue to randomly crop up and it certainly wouldn't be the last — much to his dismay. There's just something about this one in particular that feels ... off. Full on goosebumps, hair standing on end sort off.

one hand planted on his hip, eiland does a cursory circle around the statue. nothing seems particularly odd about it at his own glance aside from the fact that it is here in the first place, but he still offers what he hopes is one of his more comforting smiles to the other.

“...more so than any other statue, you mean?” he prompts with a tilt of his head. a statue is wont to stare, after all. it can’t do much else. “forgive me for saying so, but it really is remarkable! we have a chicken statue of our own back in mistria but it’s quite content to stay where it is.”

“...like this, right?”

yes, right. much like the long debated dilemma of chicken and egg, when it comes to lucky cyan the question seems to be: is it talent or just luck? it’s difficult to say. fingers knitted together neatly behind her back, she bends over to squint at the tiny phone screen playing the rest of the routine they’re meant to follow, humming quietly along to the music.

the final step sequence is rather complicated, but she rewinds it only twice before trying it herself. a step here, a half-turn there, a twirl straight into—

“ah, sorry!” she freezes just short of colliding with nice, eyes wide. shock melts into a bright laugh just a moment later, hands planting themselves on her hips as she does. “this room is a little small, isn’t it? at least the actual stage will be way bigger. i definitely won’t be crashing into you there.”

so, talent or luck? well, cyan has been good at singing for as long as she can remember and dancing hadn’t been terribly difficult to pick up either. when nominating her as a rather last minute substitute for the charity event, though, she’s pretty certain that her fame might have been the selling point. with her next concert already sold out, fans would have been clamoring for another chance to see her perform in person.

head swaying idly to some beat only she can hear, cyan puts a few steps of distance between them. a nod punctuates the bounce to her last step before she settles into her starting position. “i think i’ve got the hang of it now! should we try it together from the top?”

she starts at the motion, instantly alert. in quick succession her gaze flicks from where she had been staring listlessly at the ground to the blanket now around her shoulders—and then, drawn as always like one is to a star in the dark sky, finally upward to find him. a hand catches the edge of the blanket as it begins to slip despite the way her head shakes insistently. “it’s okay. i’m not cold.”

a breeze blows past and she shivers, fist clenching in the cloth as she draws her knees up to her chest. but she doesn’t retract her words. “i just can’t sleep,” she continues, but who can blame her, really? sleep is more of a miracle these days; the stillness itself feels like a luxury. shin yoosung is used to it by now, acclimated to the end of the world like no child should ever have to be. if she’s lucky, she’ll at least manage to get a little rest before morning comes and they’re forced to move on. “...what about you, ahjussi?” she asks after a long beat of silence. “why are you awake?”

and if there’s the slightest accusation in her voice, well. it cannot be helped. the man who saved her has never seemed very good at saving himself.

shame crawls up her spine first. qiao ling hates that it does.

but eldest daughters—they do not cry. they bite the sobs off their tongues first, blink away the tears in their eyes, swallow past the lumps in their throats. she stands guard at her mother’s door when she hears the muffled, heaving cries behind it and holds cheng xiaoshi close until hysterical weeping calms into tired whimpering. (and baba, of course, does not cry—not where she can see. there is nothing there for her to guard or hold close.)

qiao ling laughs, watery and strained, in lieu of anything better to say. “ugh... you can’t tell cheng xiaoshi about this, okay? he’ll make fun of me for sure.”

they both know she doesn’t really think that of him.

the palms of her hands press against her eyes as though they might stem the tears. but all they do is bring to mind all the things she would rather forget. lu guang’s blood painted across them in red streaks; li tianxi’s body cradled uselessly in their touch—

—and what she’d seen after, when that final light left the girl’s eyes and came into hers.

her hands pull away from her face, head finally raising to face him.

i think i saw you, lu guang.

she can probably count the number of things she knows about him with just her ten fingers, if even that. but how many years have they known each other now? how many years has she claimed to call herself his friend? guilt meets her next as she finds his gaze, an unwelcome and unsettling feeling curdled low in her gut.

the truth is that she had never really thought to ask. qiao ling’s life is filled with all the things she could’ve—should’ve—said, but didn’t. with quiet and mature lu guang, all she needed to know was the most important thing: he was cheng xiaoshi’s friend, and he wasn’t going to hurt him. finally, there was someone else who would stay. someone else he could trust.

he walked into their lives when they both needed him, truthfully.

but maybe he needed them too.

“ah, just...forget about this, okay?” qiao ling smiles, the corners of her eyes creasing. there’s a lump in her throat again that she has to swallow hard around. she inhales sharply enough to choke back the next wave of tears that threatens to spill over. no matter how mature he seems, she’s still supposed to be older. “...sorry, lu guang.”

for what, she doesn’t say. qiao ling isn’t sure she knows either.
