Just got back on set and time has already lost all meaning. Drawbacks of being a time traveller. Junior, on the other hand, seems to be enjoying the star treatment far too much to mind.

I really wish I could eat some solid food again.
12.30 - After the votives are lit, Rachel pulls out her phone and navigates to a handful of music files. They’re some of her more recent recordings, though ones she doesn’t share with much of anyone beyond her producer, but she allows Samantha to listen and then presents her gift of sorts: a day in the studio alongside her to watch and listen as Rachel records a song for her princess.
12.31 - One afternoon, Rachel sneaks away from the Gilbert home for a supposed workout, but actually arrives for an appointment at the Cartier boutique on Fifth Avenue. There’s, of course, a specific collection she already has in mind, and after narrowing down her options, she decides upon a rose gold diamond LOVE necklace. It’s a bit tricky to keep the purchase hidden when Samantha insists on helping her repack for the flight back to LA, but Rachel manages to keep the gift hidden until after the menorah is lit. In the candlelight the necklace glimmers, echoing a shine present in Rachel’s eyes when she helps to clasp the necklace around Samantha’s elegant neck.
Initially, the IOU-esque ticket Rachel commissioned was for a simple date night, but of course with the usual restrictions in place. However, with recent developments in mind, Rachel updates usual rules on the back of the ticket in bold script.

December 25th starts early with final packing prep and the trip to the private airfield, a flight that goes by surprisingly fast with two kittens as entertainment, and then navigating through the city to the Gilbert home. Once there, Rachel receives a new label when (re)introduced to Samantha’s father and brother, and then their family’s Christmas Day obligations take over. While the departed matriarch of the family is remembered, Rachel happily takes a backseat to be nothing more than an observer and supporter, only piping up when the Chinese menu surfaces since she does have her own traditions to fulfill.
But considering the length of the day – which required an impromptu trip to Neiman Marcus to upgrade childhood bedding per a certain starlet’s request and tastes – Rachel says Hanukkah gifts can wait until tomorrow.
When the sun dips below the horizon the next evening and the votives Rachel packed to serve as a travel menorah are lit, she takes Samantha’s hand in hers once more before presenting her gift. Or gifts. A package deal of sorts that covers a number of gift-giving days as well as compiles some of the resources Samantha will need to assist her dreams of owning a studio to reaching the fruition of reality.
Within the binder is Rachel’s pledge of support as an investor and backer of the business including the financial contribution she’s willing to put down, and the contact information for three commercial realtors Rachel’s own realtor had recommended and the financing to cover their fees. There’s also the information for one of the most highly recommended and sought after project manager and contractor teams in the greater Los Angeles area. Their services are promised (and paid for) once Sammy finds her studio’s space.

There isn’t a word adequate enough to describe the utter magnitude of love Samantha feels in this moment. With the realtors documents clasped in trembling hands, tears threatening to fall and stain the papers. The BalletFit studio had felt much like a pipe dream in recent years, bolstered only recently by Dara’s enthusiasm to learn when the pair shared the studio space one afternoon. But now this makes said dream tangible. Achievable. Within her grasp.
Placing the binder down beside her, Samantha can only muster the wherewithal to respond with a kiss, arms wrapping tightly around Rachel’s frame. Rachel who has since been given the title of girlfriend: a designation that Elliott flailed over for nearly an hour once he and Samantha had a moment alone on Christmas.
Somewhere in the ether, Samantha feels the presence of her mother; looking down with heartfelt approval, and filling the young dancer with hope. Bolstered by Rachel’s staggering vote of confidence, Samantha is ready for 2017 to begin and to make it her best year yet.
As the kiss finally ends, after what feels like an eternity, Samantha whispers against a pair kiss swollen lips:
“I love you, Rachel. So much.”

Samantha gifts Rachel with an Elsa Peretti ‘S’ charm on the first night of Hanukkah. Along with an ‘I love you’ said within earshot of Jo and Joe. And that, in itself, is a gift.
After Jo and Joe (and Chili and Vincent) head back to their home and all the items from their festive celebration are stored away, Rachel takes Samantha’s hand in hers and leads them to her room. On the floor next to Rachel’s side of the bed is Samantha’s first Hanukkah gift: a Mungo & Maud pet bed.
“Fit for a Princess, wouldn’t you say, sweetheart?”

[ A fluttering in her chest causes Rachel’s brow to crease, a darkened expression to flit across her features for just a moment. But then she sucks in a calming breath, holds it for three, four, five heartbeats, before exhaling her truth. ]
I love you. I love you so much.
[The tears come instantaneously, Samantha is completely overwrought with emotions at hearing the words she's been dying to hear said by the woman she's grown to love over the last 6+ months. Her mouth descends on Rachel's, pouring all of herself into a searing kiss within which she can swears she can taste her love.]
[And she doesn't pull away for several minutes; partially in that cliché fear that this is all just a dream. But it's not a dream. Not in the slightest, and through her tears Samantha answers with a--]
I love you, too...

[ Samantha clings to her and kisses her breathless to the point that words Rachel holds close to her chest, tucked against her heart almost slip free. Caught up in the moment, coaxing lips and tongues, the knowledge that bit by bit, week by week Samantha invades (in only the best of ways) her life a little bit more. A portion of the closet. Now a drawer. Toiletries on the bath counter. Her side of the bed.
But Rachel pulls back the words before they can climb up her throat and slip off her tongue. There’s a certain level of fear, or maybe it’s a lack of courage, to put herself 100% out there as it would be a game changer. No turning back. And since Rachel’s still not 100% certain that her wants and needs fully align with Samantha’s, well…]
Sam… [ It’s breathy, a plea. A single syllable uttered aloud and followed by three more, though those are only said in Rachel’s mind. Over and over. ]
Sam. [ Again and again. ]

[ There’s nothing but comfort and security in the wrap of Samantha’s arms, and by now it’s just instinctive for Rachel to relax and rest her weight against Samantha’s front. Her own hands seek out their counterparts, a search and rescue mission that results in twined fingers. Rachel squeezes. ]
It’s not that past holiday seasons have been unenjoyable, but this is the first year in quite awhile where I’m excited with a certain amount of…anticipation. There’s no having to act sad or overly cheerful about a fake break up, [ how she had spent last December ]. Instead I simply get to focus on what makes me happiest. [ Rachel uses their joined hands to aid in her shifting of position, still wrapped up but now facing Samantha. She rises up onto her toes, placing a smiling peck against a natural pout. ] You.
[Samantha is speechless for a moment, being given such a high honor. Her heart flutters in kind. Yet, the feelings are eerily like the ones that overwhelmed her back when she’d prepared that fateful breakfast and so casually confessed her love. Even in this moment, the words sit on the tip of her tongue. I love you, Rachel. But she won’t chance it. Not now. Not so close to the holidays. So Samantha lets her response come in the form of deepening their kiss, arms tightening around Rachel’s body. Holding her close with a slight desperation and no desire to let go.]

A parkour kitten. [ Rachel shakes her head as a laugh falls from her lips. ] You should pitch that for a children’s book, or even a show. But I think that’s an excellent spot. [ Still in full view from most of the home, which allows it serve as the reminder it is. ]
Sam? [ Long strides carry Rachel back towards the table where the menorah, candles, and tinsel lay. There are moments where Rachel thinks she and Sammy aren’t on quite the same page. They’re both headed in the same direction, following the same path, yet they never quite intersect. But this isn’t one of those moments, not when their respective paths over the next week and then some continue to weave their lives together. ] Thank you for this, sweetheart.
[Samantha walks up behind Rachel, and despite their significant height difference, she still feels small around the brunette. And that’s not a bad thing. She relishes the feeling. Being cared for. Looked after. Valued. Long arms wrap around Rachel’s svelte waist, and the dancer bends forward to nestle her head in the crook of Rachel’s neck. She looks over at the decorations laid out of the table--all for Hanukkah--and she lets out a happy sigh.]
You’re welcome, baby...I wanted to do this with you. [A pause] Give you a chance to put your own touch in my home for the holidays.
[A tender kiss is pressed to Rachel’s neck before she speaks quieter, knowing the gravity to her words.]
Especially since we’re going to spend both of them together.

[ Winter vacation from filming has arrived. With a few weeks off – only a smattering of engagements dot her schedule – Rachel feels giddy in a way she’s sure she would have if she had ever attended school and experienced a Christmas vacation. She doesn’t plan to much of anything except celebrate the holidays with her family and spend time with a very special girl. ]
What about this window? [ Rachel motions to the sill. With the room’s layout, it’s viewable from most positions throughout the lower level of Samantha’s home as well as the street. ] Unless you think Buttercup may get too curious and try her hand at kitty pyrotechnics?
[Samantha holds her chin, playfully overthinking Rachel’s suggestion with the feigned severity of an Engineer.]
Hmm, no. That sill is a little too low. Definitely not a kitty proof area for our menorah. She will find a way to get her paws on it, then knock it over! Just because she can!
[Rachel’s not the only one feeling giddy. Samantha too, has a heart that’s fluttering in her chest over the simple activity of putting up some holiday decorations with Rachel. She’d already set up her tree, and strung some lights on her balcony, but she wanted to save the Hanukkah flair for when the Starlet was over. Rachel was over so often, the space has become partially hers in a way. So it’s only fitting that her faith also be represented. Unlike how the gossip sites chose to do so.]
Maybe....over there!
