Welcome to Sam Fender Daily!

Before we start:

While this is supposed to be a light-hearted blog, I think I need to make something clear.

I will not share nor discuss details about Sam's personal life (i.e. 'is he dating someone?') unless he shares them himself, and even then, I will make sure to remain as impartial as possible.

Question for the Sam Fender collective...

Genuinely interested, but when and how did you discover him?

For me it was at the end of 2019, I was listening to my usual favourites on Spotify (anyone who cares it's John Mayer, various 80s, lots of indie bands, I could go on but definitely the most prominent), but just might by pure luck and chance Sam Fender played on what I can recall on one of those personalised radio mixes with similar music i.e indie rock, and I wondered if I had heard the song before. As it turns out the first song of his I would listen to would be 'Call Me Lover'. I overplayed it to fuck.

Incidentally, I had definitely heard the song beforehand but never had known who Sam was, and when I found his whole first album I knew my love of music had been rejuvenated (even though I didn't think it was possible). As I mentioned in my long winded post of how much I relate to Sam and love him in general, he is a songwriter who speaks to me and we're in the same generation so I feel I can understand what he means with his words.

Anyway yeah so Call Me Lover was the first song I heard and then I heard Hypersonic Missiles and my life was changed for the better.

I hope this won’t sound overly sentimental aka corny, however I feel the urge to tell you something about me. I’ve always been into music, since I was in my mum’s womb, and joined several bands while growing up. I’ve been told I have a nice voice so I decided to be a part of the band. I would be the frontwoman but something inside of me was crawling, I felt incomplete. I wanted to play guitar.

Well, several years later (July 2017, for the records) I found Sam Fender. He’s been the drive that got me to learn guitar. Despite the fact all I do is play wee covers from my bedroom and upload them on SoundCloud, I couldn’t be more content. I have finally learnt to play that instrument – I mean, I’m still not that good lol – after years of longing about being able to do it. I used to think I wasn’t cut for playing as I’ve always been a bit clumsy but hey, I proved myself wrong and that is the best thing about all of it. I can play and sing simultaneously! I also managed to play The Borders last October (which I am really proud of since it’s always been a favourite of mine, also a tricky one to play). My love for his music rekindled something that was muted inside of me. Not to mention the fact that I got to know amazing people that share the same love for him along the way, and they happen to be @samfenderdaily and @theborders. I consider them my friends. He has been the catalyst for a wealth of positive changes in my life and I couldn’t be more thankful to him.

A list of Sam Fender's electric guitars

I couldn't have made this list without @goldautumnalhaze 's help so thank you 💜 I also used this website (not 100% reliable but definitely helpful).

I think there's at least one more that I couldn't find a picture of, so feel free to add it!

He only uses Fender guitars on stage, so let's start with some Stratocasters:

Here's Tina - pretty sure this is Sam's first Fender, he even gave it a name - an American Professional Stratocaster in Olympic White

Now, on the left he's playing a Limited Edition Custom Shop Stratocaster, a gift to Sam from Elton John. He's had this for months... But a couple of weeks ago Dean posted this (on the right) in his Instagram story and I think it's the same guitar - the colours seem different but they're not, I'd say it's a Sonic Blue body with a mint pickguard.

Why 'new' though? I'm a bit perplexed. Maybe it's the same guitar, maybe it isn't.

I'm pretty sure this is a Fender Vintera 50s Stratocaster Modified MN in Daphne Blue, correct me if I'm wrong

Now to the Jazzmasters.

I'd say this is his signature guitar, the one he uses the most: an American Professional Jazzmaster MN in Sonic Gray

Here's the famous Shearer, a Fender American Professional Jazzmaster RW in Olympic White

This is a Fender American Original ’60s Jazzmaster in Ocean Turquoise

Here he's playing a Fender Classic '60s Jaguar Lacquer in Fiesta Red

He's never played a Telecaster, Mustang or Duo Sonic except for this one time, where he's seen playing a Tele. It probably isn't even his, this was a very low key jam session and I doubt he brings guitars that he doesn't even use on stage when he's on tour... But I thought I'd add this because I've never seen him play a Tele.

I'm not 100% sure that these are the exact models so let me know if I got something wrong!
