#26 What Not to Say to Schizophrenics
Don’t talk down to me, I’m detached from reality, not stupid.
Don’t say things to purposely freak me out or put me into psychosis.
On the same vein, don’t gaslight me, I’m already struggling with reality and anything to bring me farther from it is not going to help and will probably make me hate you.
Don’t imply I’m violent or say things hinting at stigma. I’m aware that there is a stigma, but I haven’t done anything to you.
Don’t say anything to get me to mistrust you, I’m really sensitive to trust and I’ll stop trusting you over the smallest little comment and you probably won’t even realize what it was.
When I’m in an episode don’t say anything to make me feel unsafe, keep everything calm and inviting. I’m very unstable at this point and I need patient love and gentle guidance.

Joker *SPOILERS & Theory*
My theory of the film is that Joker is retelling to the therapist in Arkham what led him to be committed to the state hospital. The story he is telling is a blend of reality and fiction.
The third scene of the film is Joker talking to his social worker on the wall is a clock which reads 11:11
Arthur says something like “I think I was happier in the hospital” and she asks him “Do you think about why you were locked up” and Arthur says” Who knows?” the scene cuts to Arthur banging his head on a door with walls lined with ceramic white slabs where another clock also reads 11:11.
This is the exact same white wall behind him in the last scene of the film, where he is handcuffed, smoking and talking to his therapist. The therapist also bears a resemblance to his social worker.
This leads me to believe that whatever Joker is saying is a blend of reality and fiction. The entire film is a mix of things that could have happened or outright did not happen. The truth lies somewhere in between and within the recurring themes of the narrative. It’s a nebulous origin and past like the comics.
Discrepancies & Similar occurrences within the narrative (a.k.a. evidence)
1. Three Father Figures - there are three father figures who all die either first hand by Joker or by proxy
Randall- Co-worker gives Arthur a gun and also the deliverer of psychological and mental abuse towards him, openly contradicting Arthur and outwardly lying (at least to Arthur) about the gun, saying out loud “I have no idea what you’re talking about”, he also refers to Arthur as “my boy”
Franklyn Murray - Deliver of emotional abuse, hurting Arthur’s feelings by openly making fun of him and his act, in the dream sequence Murray says “I wish I had a son like you” ( or something like that)
Thomas Wayne - Physical abuse, literally punches Arthur in the face. A possible biological father to Arthur.
Also, Arthur starts off as a clown like Randall, wants to be a Standup comedian like Murray and eventually becomes a leader like Thomas Wayne wanted to be, to the rioting masses. I believe that in Joker’s past he killed a father figure because there are three strong presences in the film who all die.
2. The Two Attacks - The first attack was by the teenagers who stole his sign in the alley, the second attack is by the three men in the subway (all of who happen to work for Wayne). After the first attack, we are clearly shown a large bruise on his shoulder from the attack.
After the second attack, we have a similar shot of his back and body, Arthur is watching the news with his mother where Thomas Wayne is condemning the attacks, yet there isn’t a single mark on him.
Which implies that second attack in the subway never took place only the killing of the three men did.
3. The Journal/Joke Book The first time we see the journal is at his social worker’s office, it’s beaten up folded and has a large crease down the middle.
In a later scene like on the train where Arthur goes to visit Wayne Manor the book is flat and clean, Also when he does stand up the book is almost pristine.
Which implies that the scenes are out of order again. 4. The Plastic Clown Mask - Arthur has a plastic clown mask hanging from his bedroom vanity desk, with no explanation as to where he acquired this mask.
In a later scene Arthur is being chased by the two detectives, he takes a mask from someone else and then later tosses the mask on the trash where the camera lingers on it.
Which implies scenes are out of order. 5. The Arkham Records scene- During the scene where Arthur is speaking with the employee he says something like “What does someone have to do to get put in here in the first place, do they all commit crimes?”
Which is a strange thing to say since we already know that from the first scene with his social worker he was already committed. Unless this implies that it was from an earlier time again the scenes are all out of order.
Also while reading the records of his mother he has an “imagined flashback” to his young mother in Arkham and again she has the same white ceramic slab wall that Arthur is in at the end of the film.
At the end of the film, Joker is handcuffed in Arkham.
So my theory is it’s entirely is that Joker is already in Arkham when the film starts the social worker and his Arkham therapist look similar because he is blending his fictional disjointed past with his current reality. In Arkham his therapist is asking him “Do you think about why you were put in here?” and he tells her a version of events that lead him there. Which explains why certain things in the narrative don’t make sense. And the only thing we know for sure happened is real is the death of the Wayne’s, Bruce’s parents. Joker later sings and injures or kills his therapist as walks out of the room feet bloodied.
*I am not saying this is definitely what happen this is just what I think happened*
