CHEESECAKE - JASMINE 428. I normally don’t gravitate toward “typical” pinup wardrobe like the plaid skirt school girl outfit but I decided to try it since Jasmine brought it with her. PINUP ART: BROTHEL CHIPS. Although the name may make you think of a tasty snack food at an adult recreational facility, they are actually commemorative works of pinup art. I found these in an antique store in Nevada. Really. I bought them because I appreciate this type of art. Seriously. I think they’re cool. Although I’d love to visit Judy’s Coyote Spring Ranch (to see if there are new chips), the business has closed. Damn! On another note, I wasn’t sure if this posting belongs here. CHURCH. For some reason, I always get concerned about bursting into flames when I enter a church. It probably comes from the opening title sequence of Forever Knight, an early ’90s late night syndicated show about a modern day vampire. I loved the first season. Seasons two and three were caca. In this case, I didn’t burst into flame or even feel a little warm. This was shot in existing light at ASA 16K, ƒ3.5, at 1/320 of a second. THE KINK CASTLE PART I. Ann and I attended a party at the Kink Castle. The drinks were flowing, there was a buffet, live entertainment, and a tour. We found ourselves in the interrogation room where I met Sonya (I think that was her name) and her friend. Sonya was Russian and spoke little English. Somehow we wound up doing an impromptu photoshoot. I gave her my card so I could get her copies but never heard from her again. That was a fun party at Kink. . FLAG MAKERS. I don’t think they’re making flags in there anymore. I somehow got the vibe that the company in that office worked with clothing or travel. I discovered a number of painted signs in San Francisco similar to Flag Makers in the early ’90s. I saw them on walls everywhere. There were quite a few in SOMA. I thought, “That’s gonna make a great photo story for somebody but not me.” I never know what to do with these photos. I think they’re interesting when I capture them but I find them boring when I’m sorting. After I edit them, I find them to be not too boring. It would have been difficult for me to go and shoot all the painted signs back then with this conflict in my head. Then again I could’ve scored a publishing deal with Chronicle Books for those photos. They were publishing books on kitschy motels, neon signs, people’s hips, etc. . THE STAND. Actually Alison couldn’t stand in these shoes. I put them on her and helped her up. She stood for a little while but I felt it was too dangerous to continue. I made a few photos and sat her down. Randy Moore on the other hand could not only stand but walk around. She said she could run in them too. I believe her. She’s very comfortable in ultra high heels. She’s wearing these shoes in that candid shot with Jenni. I thought this fetish-y shot worked best in monochrome and it’s my little homage to Helmut Newton. . REGRET: HIGHLAND PARK DARK ORIGINS. Actually, I have no regrets. I stand by the life I have lived and the decisions I have made. I’ve had a great time and if I had to do it all again, I’d make completely different choices still with no regrets. In this case, there is something I wish I had done. Why didn’t just sweep the last remaining bottles into my cart and buy them all? I was concerned about getting an NAS single malt. I had just tried one from Trader Joe’s and had a bad experience. This was more expensive (~$30USD). Although Highland Park is my favorite distiller, this miigh be some rot-gut swill they’re just trying to unload on Cosco cheapskates. Boy was I wrong. This was one of the best single malts I’ve ever tasted. It changed my mind about NAS scotch. A week later, Costco was out of stock. I went to Bevmo and bought their last bottle at a slightly higher price (~$37USD). Haighland Park Dark Origins is gone (except for the collectors who have their bottles) but I’ll always have the memories of that outstanding whisky. FYI: Magnus is also damn good. . ALISON 094. I shot Alison the hell out of Alison but it still wasn’t enough. I still have a lot of concepts I’d love try in collaboration with her. Unfortunately, she no longer models. It’s cool. I have a lot of images of her I can release and I’ll always have the happy memories of working with her and the photos we created. This is my homage to Penthouse magazine in the ‘70s. I wanted a soft contrast with some grain like the images I saw in that era. This was shot with one light with some digital blurring. Bob Guccione would shoot in daylight and smear Vaseline on the lens (OK, technically the protection filter but that’s a bit wordy and it’s easier to just say lens and ’splain it if someone asks). Playboy dabbled in that look occasionally but they were always more glamorous with multiple lights and elaborate sets. . I wish I had shot the hell out of her. Sie its Idaho is one of the best models I’ve ever worked with. Not only is she incredibly beautiful, she’s a lot of fun in the studio. I remember having a great time with her and laughing a lot while producing a number of sexy/fun photos. She the type you could totally fall for. She’s also a talented artist.
