“Got him to watch Jurassic Park not that long ago but I don’t think that classifies as a horror movie to Kai so..” She let out a small laugh, doubting Kai would ever be down for a horror night. Even around Halloween time it was always baking, candy eating, drinking. Anything to avoid the horror movie marathons on tv. Which was the worst time off her life, she loves the marathons. Harry Potter ones happened like every other week. “We’re definitely doing a movie night or day - whatever works out but obvious scary movies are the best at night.” Making a note, “The Original Friday is good and the whole his mom was the killer made sense then the later ones were – stretching the truth. Then they had Freddy versus Jason which was wild. Sure horror cross over but if those two are really living in the same universe I’m pretty sure Freddy would have way more people to kill because those kids just… googled him like nothing and the horror tale and all.” Rolling her eyes she could go on for hours about movies. They were her day-night entertainment you could always find a movie for something. “Well we’re making a trip then when halloween comes around. There’s a Sleepy Hollow in New York with the bridge in the cemetery, large oak and everything.”

“Near Tarrytown, right? Heard of it but never been there. Though I was surprised to hear that most people didn’t know it was a real town until the TV show came out- then people seemed to want to flock to it. Heard a few mentions of it when I lived in New York. People talked about the haunted hayrides up there.” Halloween was always a bit strange she supposed for the supernatural. For witches it was Samhain, the witches New Year, the ending of the cycle; a time to honor your dead and those that came before you. For the rest of the world it was about scares and costumes and candy. Not that Santana ever necessarily saw anything wrong with that. It just was strange to see the difference she supposed. Especially when witches were often something people dressed up as. And a lot of the time it was in the more insulting, cliché version of a witch- or what people might call a slutty version. “Salem is pretty interesting around Halloween, too. They do haunted houses and go all out decorating. A lot of people visit the witch museum there too around that time. But wiccans and pagans from all over the country gather there. They do ceremonies. It's an interesting sight.”

Wasn’t that the vibe of everyone now a days, life as an adult was less tv show like and more… solitude. What happened to 20s being a time to party, experiment, explore the unknown. To be fair most people were reaching their 30s or in it so that’s when the real ‘adulthood’ began but still… Five years she had and Melanie was really doubting it was going to be everything she thought it was. “Yeah statement of the century.” Finally responding with a small laugh. “Oh yeah, guess I’m lucky this place pays good and is closed most of the time by 8… Ex in the mix again? Or just casual?” She questioned with a brow raise, though it was mostly teasing. Santana was … on the more normal side of the bunch. She doubted that drama was going to be spicy. “Just working – I really need to clean but other than that I’m pretty boring.”

An almost amused smile spread across the elder witch’s face as Melanie questioned her relationship with her ex. Most people did. They either assumed the two of them were getting back together or were confused at the time they spent with each other. Neither reaction surprised her any longer though she supposed she never gave anyone an answer that seemed to satisfy them. “In some ways he was never out of the picture.” There was no denying that Santana still had a lot of love inside of her for the man she had once been married to. That didn’t, however, mean that what was between them any longer was romantic. She wasn’t even sure what to call it. “We’ve always stayed close and have always spent time together. But you’re not the first one to question it. Guess most people find it strange to be friends with someone you divorced. And you’re not boring,” she assured the younger girl with a shake of her head. “Stability is something most adults strive for in their life. Excitement is fine and all but happiness and a good life? That's what matters in the end. Grand adventures are temporarily satisfying but true happiness? Well, that’ll satisfy you for a lifetime, Little D.”

Smiling as Santanas confession, Jez was definitely going to be hearing about this at some point. Maybe she could invite her over and do some ‘make up’ moments… Did Alicia even have any non-expired make up at her house? Shaking her head to get rid of the question, focusing back on the brunette. “Not really fair-” Frowning a bit imagining a teenager feeling more pressure than they already should. “-for Jez. I get she’s.. like that now but as a kid she should’ve had someone - take the weight off.” Admitting, maybe the twins were way more than polar opposites. She couldn’t blame either for how they were, as kids parents should have helped… Given some guidance. “Oh yeah he still does that.”

  Reassuring with a small laugh, imagining little Kai’s running around hell there could be twins other there. The thought alone causing a shutter and a laugh. “God Kai as a dad - no, I think he needs to be like the cool uncle first or maybe like a godfather. Oh totally - I feel bad for his roommate since he definitely have to clean up the mess.” Shaking her head, maybe a kid would cause a mental break in Kai but she had more faith, it might take a bit but he’d hopefully adult-up. “Friends? And me? No, I’ve got like.. three and it’s become more of two with the third being my boss.”

“You’ll quickly find that the Dragoumis family had a…different way of raising their children. For the most part, the things parents would normally discourage their children from doing? They turned a blind eyes to. So Jez seemed to take it upon herself to steer both Kai and Melanie in the right direction. With Kai it was easier. They were twins so they had this bond from the moment they were born. And Kai always followed her pretty easily. I can't imagine the two being separate from that long. If Jez up and decided to leave the city it would be a surprise to everyone if Kai didn’t follow right along with her. Melanie…I think she always felt caught in-between. Between what her siblings wanted and what her family did. It isn’t an easy family to grow up in.Big, generally loyal in their own way but not an easy one. The fact that the twins came out as kind-hearted as they did is surprising but in the best way.”Santana always wondered if the way the twins had turned out was in no small part due to Evelyn and their coven taking them into their fold and teaching them a different way. How different could they have turned out had they remained with their original coven?

“Not sure if Kai will get to be an actual uncle. And even if he does? The question would be when. Jez, for all her good qualities, would probably be reluctant to have children because of their family. And Melanie? I’m not sure where she stands on the whole thing. But if it’s going to happen? It won’t be for a while. Besides, would have to get the girls someone first, right?” And lots of luck to that. From what she heard the Dragoumis family enjoyed picking out the partners for their girls. “Nothing wrong with being friends with your boss. My one boss and I have known each other for…wow, years. He’s a year older than me and we grew up in the same social circle. We’ve known each other a long time. The twins know him, too. Kai actually used to look up to him when we were teenagers.”

 “Oh yeah - she was not the nicest person. I still have to think twice about contacting her. You know spirits can be so extra when called.” It sounded like a joke, however most of what Melanie said was sugar coated and a handful would only ever know the seriousness of them. Glancing from the picture she turned at the woman, flashing the infamous Melanie smile. “’Tana..” She greeted, look at Melanies social circle – it was Kai and Jez then the occasional friend of theirs. Without hesitation she gave the older girl a hung before stepping away keeping her at arms length. “Wow you look so good, like everyones on a beauty trip.” A small laugh escaped her, stepping back she fiddled with the papers to control some of the energy she had. “Yeah - yeah of course. You know we get so caught up with family now a days – what’ve you been doing though? Anything exciting?”

“We get wrapped up in all sorts of things.” A part of Santana wished that she could say she had been spending most of her time with her family rather than with other things. Since coming back to the city she had to admit she rarely spent much time with her siblings. It stung in a lot of ways because before she had left the city? She had always been rather close to her siblings, spent a great deal of time with them and talked about all manner of things. They had even studied healing with their grandmother together. But when she had left it must have put a big wedge in their relationships since speaking to them was far more rare these days. Even if she wished more often than not that was the case. “Work takes over a lot of people's lives.” Working two jobs and having her shifts changing quite a bit made things very difficult at times- or at least setting a schedule for herself. But she didn’t mind it and she understood it completely. How could she be upset with the shifts at 77 given everything going on? “Working two jobs, spending time with my ex-husband. Takes up a lot of time, Little D. What have you been up to?”

 Suppose she could consider herself lucky coming to the  Old Absinthe House on a quiet day. The tourists might be going through the ‘family’ phase, don’t get her wrong she understands wanting kids to see the world but the place wasn’t exactly Disney Land. Taking a kid to New Orleans was probably just as boring as her trip to Jersey when she was put to bed by 7. Boring, the word rang in her mind as a small laugh escaped. Wine seemed appropriate despite the more relaxed atmosphere, turning the glass in her fingers for a moment before deciding to take a sip.

      When was the last time she wasn’t in school? Besides a summer break… probably years. Having to shake off the thoughts that threatened to follow such a simple statement, she’d almost missed the approaching figure. “Oh god – this an intervention?” She teased over the brim of her glass.

“Do you need one?”Santana asked, slipping into the seat next to her. She knew some of the people who worked there and had been asked the night prior to run an errand for the manager. She had gone there that day to drop off the cases for the stock room she had picked up as a favor and yet she hadn’t anticipated running into someone that she knew. That time of day most people were at work and that usually didn't mean anyone lingering at the bar. At times tourists would come around and spend their day there but the place was suspiciously absent of tourists.They must have been somewhere else that day.

Nodding at the bartender she knew all too well she watched as he turned to fix a drink for her- how sad was it that every bartender she knew happened to know her order without a word-before turning her attention to the human. “Day drinking can be fine-sometimes. You start trying to get on this bar and dancing with underwear on your head? Then I may have to take you up on that intervention, sweetheart.”

“Hence the book.” He smiled. “It’s slow going if I’m honest. Right now I’m wading though generalisations and blanket terms. Demons as a whole are rare so books tend to talk about the species as a whole rather than get specific. Things like the origin of the species being unknown but verified to have been not on this plain of existence. Commonalities including varying levels of influence over humans accidental or otherwise. Most potent of which tends to be with Cubi though they’re considered some of the weakest demons.”

“I had a discussion with someone recently on the changing depictions of my species by humans. Stemming from a grotesque short and fat creature to something far closer to what we actually look like. It’s interesting to look at the extent of negative propaganda.” Of course he didn’t have to explain the effects of negative propaganda to a with. Their species had been those closest to being caught out and for all the wrong reasons. Rampant sexism and out of control religious zealots had created the witch trials but he imagined it was the sort of event that shaped a species.

“That’s because humans are an interesting species. They want to understand everything that they don’t, find answers to what seems like a vast mystery but at the same time? Most of them don't actually want the answers. It's the search for the answers they crave. But once they find what they’re looking for they have a tendency to be afraid. To want to hide from the truth or hate what they discover. If it doesn’t benefit them they no longer want to know. And they have a long history of hating anyone that isn’t exactly like them. Every culture in history has suffered from it. So they make things up. They probably feel safer that way, pretending they know everything they need to.”

It would be easy to assume based on what Santana said she had a problem with humans but she had no problem with them at all. Most of the people she had a tendency to deal with at 77 were, in fact, humans. For the most part they were fine and a lot of them did know about the supernatural. The ones that did whom she encountered seemed to have no problem with the people who weren’t human but at the same time? She understood that many people if they found out about them would be scared senseless. “I think it’s easier to consider the supernatural as monsters who want to hurt humans rather than as people quite similar to them in many ways. So depicting them as something less than human would have made sense back then. But people are so fascinated these days and as more people seem to find out about us? I suppose it means they're more likely to depict us as we are.”

Cassidy nodded, he wanted to be at the bar helping while his brother was gone. However, given past sins his father forbid it and instead took the burden of running the place himself despite health concerns.  Still, he knew it was difficult for Jack.  Daniel being his eldest son, the one that followed his lead for so long. Evelyn had the coven to help, but his father didn’t have the same support system as his wife.  And Cassidy and Jack had a fractured relationship.  “Glad to hear everyone does not take it personally, he’s just stressed with everything taking place and other things.” Other things being him and his children, but he kept that bit to himself.

Confusion spread across his features at her question.  Most people hardly cared how he was holding up with everything taking place.  Cassidy did not take it personally, he understood his parents and Adriana were in a far more difficult situation than himself.  Still, despite his lack of out expression on the whole matter.  He struggled within, Daniel had always been his refuge and now he felt utterly lost.  “I am not going to lie, it is hard.”  The words were putting it mildly, he never imagined having to do things without his brother.  As crazy as it sounds, Cassidy deep down always figured with his life style, it would either be him behind bars or six feet under long before Daniel.  “But I’m dealing with it,” he said with a faint smile. He didn’t have a choice, he had children depending on him and he needed to maintain a positive atmosphere that his brother did for them.  “How are things with you Santana?”  Cassidy looked at his daughter examining the necklace.  “Lily, be careful with that.  It does not belong to you.”  He said with a stern voice.

“Oh, we all understand your father is going through a lot. And while we all hope your brother is able to come back soon? We don’t hold any of the changes against Jack. He’s trying to deal with a difficult situation. And he’s trying to be as fair as he can.We’re all just fond of your brother and hope things get cleared up soon. Not just for the sake of having him back, of course. For Dan’s sake.” The whole town by then knew exactly what Dan had been arrested for. And all of the employees there had been talking about it. Not to be gossips but because it was their boss. None of them believe Dan could do what he was accused of. He was too nice to do something like that. But they also knew that their opinion would do nothing to help him. It would take the police either finding proof he was innocent in something like forensics or someone coming forward with information that would help clear his name.

“He’s your brother. Of course it’s hard. Especially since, well…anyone who knows Dan knows that there's no way he’s guilty. We all believe in him. Everyone at the bar. We know he's innocent and we all have hope that his name will be cleared soon. But it's alright for it to affect you. He’s family. Family can affect us more than anyone else.” Adjusting her grip slightly on the little girl to help her keep her balance while playing with the necklace Santana offered the warlock a small smile. “Oh, I can’t complain. Been a little busy. Trying to spend time with my siblings when I can but we all have our own lives. Mostly been spending time with my ex outside of work. Watching movies. Pretty boring, know.” Glancing back down at Lily the witch laughed a little. “Oh, don’t worry. She can’t hurt it. It’s charmed. Moving around behind the bar all of the time that thing slams into things all of the time. It was the best way to make sure it didn’t break.”

Was anyone in New Orleans a fan of horror movies? She felt like she’d be living a very chaste life with the movies. God Kai trying to get her to watch Disney was bad enough. “God don’t even ask a horror movie fan if they liked the movie with the cabin in the woods, we can go off with a list of movies that have it in it and there’s a movie actually called Cabin in the Woods so yeah – there’s a common theme with most. But some of the older movies are good, like Night of the Living Dead. Rob Zombie does interesting movies, kind of horror. But I guess I don’t really think it’s scary so I don’t count it as horror.” Admitting with a shrug. “Oh my god, have you glamped before?” She teased a brow raising at Santana.

“All the kinds of movies I’m sure Kai will never be convinced to watch with you.” Despite her words the witch couldn’t help but smile. Kai was many things- and capable of many things- but a horror movie buff? Not in this lifetime. He was too childlike, too emotional. She doubted he couldn’t make it through them without screaming like a little girl and wouldn’t that just be a sucker punch to his ego? “Can’t say I’ve seen any of those movies. Well, a few bits of Night of the Living Dead. I did seethe original Friday the 13th but it was sort of a given. I lived fora few months in the town where the camp they filmed it at is located. CampNo-Be-Bo-Sco. It’s a Boy Scout camp in New Jersey. The diner from the movie is still in the nearby town, too. The locals were a little proud that it became so iconic. They apparently even put up signs around Halloween when the camp is closed about it being Camp Crystal Lake- but I wasn’t there at Halloween time to confirm that.” At the question Santana shook her head, laughing at the very notion. “No, never been glamping. Just know what it is. Not high maintenance enough to need to glamp I’m afraid.”

Who are your top three most attracted people in Nola?

“Objectively speaking? Hmm. I’d have to say for guys? Kai- love the guy like a brother but he’s handsome, Dan- plus he’s a giant teddy bear and Alex- great smile on that boy. All nice people, too. And women? Hmm. Adriana is beautiful even though I have only seen her a few times- she and Dan make a beautiful couple. “Sounds like a pretty great silver lining.” Alex didn’t know much about the situation between Santana and her husband, but it didn’t seem like something without any positives. Perhaps it was only a matter of time before the two got back together. Either way, he wished them both happiness. There were many worse things that could’ve come out of the situation. He was certainly glad that he had never rushed into marriage with any of his previous girlfriends considering how all the relationships had turned out. Even though he would’ve married Lilith right then if she wanted to, he was perfectly happy with waiting. Yes, he wanted to get married eventually, but in the end having a happy and healthy relationship was the most important thing. He laughed at her surprise upon hearing about the house. “Well, I’m not doing it completely alone, but I try to do a good chunk of the work. It’s really not as hard as you think. Believe it or not people did it all the time back in the old days.” Of course he had people to help with things he needed an expert for - plumbing and electricity and other things Alex felt were better done by a professional. That said, he tried to do what he could on the house. Alex was far from the best carpenter in the world, but he had enough experience and knowledge to do a lot of the basic handiwork. It was something he liked to do, and it meant there were few things he had to compromise on since he wasn’t buying premade.

“Hey now, don’t downplay.People may have done it a lot back in the day but not so much anymore. And its pretty cool regardless. You should be proud of yourself.” The witch had never really heard of anyone actually building their own home so she wasn’t actually blowing smoke by saying how cool she thought it was. Yes, back in the past people had no choice. They didn’t usually have people that you could hire to build a house for you. But in a word where you could do that easily? It was surprising in the best way to see someone taking it upon themselves to get the home they wanted built. It may have been difficult and may have been hard work but that only made it something even more worthy of praise- and something even more worth him being proud of. “So, you building what you hope to be your family home?” Santana questioned with a smile. “The proverbial white picket fence and a slew of kids running around the yard?” That life wasn’t for everyone, that she knew, but a part of her felt like it seemed to be the kind of thing Alex would want. Maybe because she could so clearly picture in her mind's eye the man walking down the street with a little one cradled in his arms. And hell if that mental image wasn’t adorable. And besides whether that future was truly for him or not if he was in a relationship with someone he loved? Well, it was a possibility they would have to talk about at some point.

 “Just one moment!” She heard someone walking around the front hall of the Lalaurie House, the footsteps echoing in the silence. Most would be uncomfortable, the vibes of a haunting now footsteps cutting through the peace. Instead the girl dug for the introduction card she had for whom ever was waiting. Popping up from behind the table – if she wanted to feel important, or do something more with her life she wouldn’t be working there – but there was a sense of calm with being the only on in such a beautiful home despite the horrors that happened once on the grounds. “I have your introduction card.” She stated breathlessly finally entering the ‘waiting’ room noticing them eyeing the large picture of the  Marie Delphine LaLaurie. “She was very beautiful for her time.”

“Beautiful, maybe. But also a cruel slave owner who tortured people. It isn’t a wonder that they burned the original building to the ground.” Santana kept her gaze on the painting before her for a handful of seconds before finally turning her attention to Melanie, a slow smile spreading across her face. “Hey, Baby D.” Having grown up with the twins around her for most of their lives- and thinking of Kai as a little brother for most of that time- Santana had gotten to know Melanie a little throughout the years. She had never considered herself exceedingly close to the younger girl and could even say she didn’t always understand her but somehow she had found herself with a soft spot for her all the same. Perhaps it was simply because Kai seemed to love his little sister so much. Perhaps it was the big sister in her that did it. Whatever the case was many times throughout the years she found herself stopping in to say ‘hello’ to the youngest in that family. And to see how time had been treating her. Or at least she had before she had left New Orleans. And she had yet to see her since her return. “Longtime, no see.”

“You are being far too kind,” the man’s blue eyes dipped down to look at his daughter whose attention was taken by Santana.  Although, Cassidy loved the fact many of those in the coven were well acquainted with all his children.  He still did not like his daughter running off without an explanation then hopping into someone’s lap as if that was okay.  Of course, he would save that conversation for when they returned home. At least it was Santana, she appeared to be kind and easy going.  Cassidy did not know her well, besides the small encounters but she took his place at the bar and his mother trusted the witch.

“I am doing well, just out enjoying the fresh air with Lil.”  In many ways it was embarrassing to see any member of the coven.  Cassidy knew the majority if not all of them knew his troubles.  Hard to keep secret within a small group of people.  And he also knew a few of them put on fronts, be nice to him then talk behind his back when he was not around.  “How are you?  Dan told me you now work at the bar.  How is that going?  With everything going on, I know dad has been a bit frazzled and been managing.  Is he treating you alright?”

“Oh, you know, it’s an adjustment like anything else. Everyone misses your brother but we’re doing what we can to make it easier for your dad. And we all understand how difficult this is for your family so we do what we can to help out and don’t take anything personally.” Santana could only imagine how it must have felt for the Bolton family dealing with Dan being locked away. It was sad enough for the people who knew him from work or the coven but to be a member of his family and have to see him be locked away? She could only imagine the hardship that was. And the sadness that accompanied it. If it were her own sibling she would be devastated and they weren’t even as close these days as they once were.

Carefully removing the necklace Lily seemed to be fascinated with so the little girl could hold it and get a better look the witch turned her attention back to her covenmate. She wouldn't lie and say she had ever been extremely close to Cassidy. He had been a few years her junior in high school and while for all intents and purposes their entire generation within the coven grew up together? They all gravitated towards different people. For example, she had always looked at Kai like a little brother and it had been all too clear that Cassidy wasn’t his biggest fan. But that didn't mean she had ever had anything against the younger Bolton son. In fact,when they were younger she had quite admired him stepping up to be a father to his eldest child. It wasn’t an easy task for a sixteen year-old and yet he had done it. “And how have you been dealing with everything? People are so concerned with your parents- and understandably so- but I think they forget Dan is your brother. This takes a toll on you, too.” Santana was no fool. She was never much for gossip but the coven spoke often about their Supreme and her family worries, most of them out concern. So it was no secret that Cassidy had his struggles. Yet she for one had never judged that. Everyone had their faults;everyone made mistakes. They didn’t make up the whole of a person so she could never bring herself to look down on anyone for a few bad choices. It didn’t make them bad people necessarily, after all.

·Her shoulders lifted casually, it was her life style since coming to New Orleans. Well it wasn’t like that always. At one point she only had school and the reno of her home, both were good of course. She had so much pride in her home supposing it’s why her friends always ended up there. ·“Yeah what can I say?” Letting out a small laugh. “I grabbed it before moving down here I thought maybe one day I’d go on a road trip with people I like. Camp under the stars, no walls around us just road. But I also watch a lot of horror movies so I really don’t want to die in the middle of nowhere– that’s so lame.” Rolling her eyes with a smirk, “So many people in the city own homes in upstate or rent places. They don’t like the outdoors too much but just enough to make them feel like they are diverse.”

“Not the biggest horror movie buff but from what I’ve seen? Wilderness and certain death seem to be a running theme. Like Friday The 13th. Go to camp, get slaughtered. Seems legit.” Santana admittedly had only seen a few horror movies in her life but from what she remembered? Being out in nature was a good way to end up dead. Which was ironic for her since she had always been a pretty big fan of nature as a general rule. She spent more time in wide open places and in parks than her homes when she was outside of New Orleans. Even now she had a tendency go out into the bayous or the more rural outer areas when she got the chance. “Just watch out for any hockey mask wearing men with machetes and I think you’ll be fine. Maybe watch out for backwoods inbred cannibals too just to be safe.” The witch couldn't help but smile when Alicia talked about what New Yorker’s did for camping.“Yes, well, that’s more glamping than anything. And I hate that I even know that term.”

“But it’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings if you’re in public.” He said as he put the book down and picked up his tea. “It’s a book on demonology. I’ve recently been inspire to do a little research into certain unholy subjects.” Marcus tilted his head as he looked at the woman trying to get a sense of her. He didn’t want to say the wrong thing after all. When he detected the presence of magic he figured it was safe to continue. “I’m doing research into my species. It’s something I’ve neglected for a while.”

It had taken him a lot of time to work himself up to being comfortable enough to look into his species. So many traumatic memories surrounded that part of himself but he had to work at becoming more comfortable with it. Plus he had people in his life now that would help him through any difficult discoveries or triggering finds.

“It’s always good to be able to understand yourself, what you are. For some of us it comes easy. But for others it takes some time. Or research.” Santana herself had been lucky. Being a witch was easy to understand- and had been easy to navigate with the help of her family. “And is it helping any? Your research?” The witch knew that many books on the supernatural were full of misconceptions and incorrect information. Because most were written by humans. And the ones that were written by the supernatural? They were few and far between and at times not even written by someone of the species that the book was about. Santana: Maybe. Still surprised she keeps him hanging around but it isn't like I know her well enough to even guess how her brain works.

Santana: Why isn't that surprising either? Kai has always had an optimistic outlook on life thinking everything will just work out so perhaps he's trying to imply that he's always going to look the way he does now. Metabolism clearly doesn't work that way.
