I Feel Safe

My digital art project that shows different surveillance footages around the United States. Everyone today is constantly being watched by a camera for our safety. However, many do not feel like their privacy is safe due to this mass increase in surveillance. Personally, I feel safer with all the recording around the world. So through my art project, I wanted to show that surveillance, is in fact, good.

Glitch of the Day:

Self-Portrait (山下沙織) 2016 Photography/Digital Work 77 x 46 inches $1,999.95

Have you ever seen a glitch used in artwork? Since 2014, I have been collecting glitches that happen around me. The interest started when I took a class called New Direction to Digital Arts. We were told to take a picture of a technology that is not functioning the right way. Some took videos of a broken clock, phone that does not work, and a computer that does not let students log in. I decided to take a screenshot of Facebook repeating one picture of myself throughout my wall. This did not interest me, and I thought the class was pretty boring. However, when we started corrupting documents by adding different elements (sounds and text), I started seeing corrupt versions of a document to be more beautiful than the original.

After this time, I started looking at different ways to control a glitch by utilizing TextEdit. Deleting parts of pictures through text, I was able to control an error. The picture above is a self-portrait that I have been working on glitching the way I wanted to look. I can say it was successful in the terms of how I wanted it to look.

The picture at the bottom is an invoice I tried to make when I see the piece.

Wonton the Dog!!

Telling a story about yourself can be challenging, especially when its personal. During this month, I struggled to create a story about myself incorporating real life and animation. I did not want to use an animated person because the audience will know from the start that the person is me. This is why I chose to use a dog as my animation. Anyone can relate to a dog. They go out, sleep, eat, take a poop, etc. However, instead of being, “Any dog”, I decided to name him Wonton to be more relatable to me. On the gif, Wonton is doing activities that I like doing on my free time or daily.

Creation of my dog, Wonton!

Progress report on my digital animation project. Using Photoshop to create Wonton and creating many layers so I can give it movement once I import it to After Effect. Started using puppet pins so I can move his tails, legs, etc. Still trying to refresh my memory on how to create the video portion of this creation. Stay Tuned!
