(goverment voice) we need to protect the children from pornography so our plan is to remove their eyes so they would never see something so traumatic. if you are against removing children's eyes you are basically a pedophile
how it feels to message a friend who's having Problems that you can't do anything to help with.

PAINFULLY ACCURATE
i feel like the youth should be reminded that the point of shipping is not for a ship to become canon. the point of shipping is to collect all the canon crumbs like starved mice, run away cackling and make some fun little scenarios with them just for the hell of it.
I often wonder what happened to authors of unfinished fanfictions.
I hope they’re having a nice life
we absolutely are not and that unfinished fic haunts us to this day
Reblog if that unfinished fic haunts you to this day
reblog if you’ve had an online friendship that’s lasted more than 2 years
Let's talk about phone anxiety
For the new year I'm going to drop some Old Nerd wisdom on some of you, particularly those of you who struggle with making professional calls; to your bank or your ISP or the utility company. Things you can't handle in an email (or things that should be an email but aren't) Or worst of all, things that are going to result in someone trying to upsell you. I have a fool proof way to deal:
The Phone Script
A lot of phone anxiety, or being talked into things you don't want, is not knowing what you're going to say. I'd like to note that in most cases the person you are talking to on the other end of the phone has a scrip they are following, which is why it always seems like they are one step ahead of you. Fight Fire With Fire I say. Here's how it works:
Before you make the call: Get out a sheet of old fashioned paper or open a new blank document in your word processor. (that second one can be nice because you can save it and reuse it)
At the top write the company you're calling and the number. Leave a space, you'll need it later. Write down your account number, your pin, and any other pertinent account information.
Now we make a decision about money. Will we need to spend money to fix this issue? If they answer is yes, go get the card you intend to use and write that under the account info. (Visa Card, Check Card [Bank]) Not the actual card info. If you shouldn't need to pay to fix the issue, leave your card in your wallet and on this line write in big letters: I Do Not Have My Card With Me Right Now.
Now we write the script: Hello My Name is: [Full Name on the account] I'm calling about: [short explanation] The issue I'm having is: list all the details you can think of. Write down if this is a billing issue, a technical issue, a service issue. Any relevant dates, specifics about the issue, what you might have been told on previous calls by other employees and who they were if you remember. if you save this in a document every time you make a call you have a lot of fun data to put in here. It would be great if: explain how you'd like to have this resolved if you have some idea. Otherwise ask what your options are.
Get your card and your reading glasses if you need those because;
Now we make the call: When someone answers, they should give a name. Write that down in the space at the top. Read the First two lines of the script. Be prepared to be transferred. If you're calling a switchboard the best this person can do is shove you toward the right department. Eventually someone will respond by asking for your account info. that's at the top, read it out when prompted. Once they have that info, read out 'The Issue I'm Having'.
They may ask more questions, but usually if you've written your script well they'll pause because you have just used up all the rubbish questions they use as a stall tactic. Congrats, you have just carved a 15 minute call down to 5. You might be asked to repeat things you've already said, just read them back off your script. I put my script in bullet points so it's easier to scan but if that just distracts you, you don't have to do that.
This is generally the point in the interaction where the enterprising individual looking for a promotion will try to sell you something. Don't make up any stories, just tell them you don't have your card. Repeat it if you have to. Conversely if solving the problem means getting out your card, this is probably going to go a lot faster. At the bottom of your script jot down anything you're told, ask for a time frame if it's something that will need a service call.
When you've got to a semi-successful say thank you, have a nice day and hang up. Don't loiter around for phone surveys. you have a life.
Some acting notes from your director: It is easier to get people to do what you want if you give them an opportunity to feel good about themselves. I try to never play the sympathy card if I can help it, but what I do is more subtle: "I know this isn't your fault, but I'm really upset about this" "I'm really hoping you can help me because I haven't had any luck so far" "I know this was probably a corporate decision but is there anything at all you can do to resolve this?" No one likes to be blamed, particularly for things they haven't done, so if you give someone who sits in a cubical getting yelled at most of the day a chance to be your hero they will, statistically speaking, usually take it. Even if it's something easy to fix you'll still get a better response if you approach the request as if you're asking for a favor rather than demanding the service you're quite literally entitled to. What can I tell you? Humans are weird.
That's all, that's the grift. Good luck out there, guys, making the phone calls that no one wants to deal with.
I have no idea what to do with this, but wouldn't it be neat if Aang started doing all of his bending using the wrong style of bending? Just because he can?
Airbending? No, actually, it's humid in here. I used the water in the air :) nope, just manipulated the temperature with firebending. Common mistake! They look very similar!
Oh no, that wasn't earthbending. That was airbending. I'm basically just compressing the air! Sokka came up with that!
Avatar Aang comes in to give a bending demonstration, and immediately 60-year-old masters start gnawing the furniture because what do you MEAN that was waterbending!!! You made flames!!!? We've been studying this all our lives why would you come in and do this to us
Do NOT leave these in tags OP
Aang is just fucking around with using air to waterbend, Sokka discovers liquid oxygen and promptly develops chemical rocket engines and uses them to go visit his first girlfriend, the moon.
A problem I have when reading romance novels is I cannot empathize with disliking someone but finding them attractive regardless. If I dislike someone I'm like "You are like a wadded up ball of sweaty socks and I want you to burn in a pyre, undying and screaming for days"
"He infuriated her, though she was willing to admit he was a handsome man" I couldn't begin to tell you what the people I dislike look like because I see red instantly. If you were like "Is he the blond one" I'd be like "idk he's the one who most looks like he should die"
As someone in and around their 30’s it has been INSANE to see feminism in popular media descend through
Women can wear pants and play sports and that’s equality. Women don’t just belong inside the house. This woman has a career
This woman can be a mechanic just like a man could. She’s probably still a lesbian, though, which is basically the closest to a man a woman can *be*, and explains everything. But she’s still a person!
If a woman superhero CHOOSES to wear stilettos to fight crime, that’s girl power! This comic character written and designed by men wears a bikini and has a waist size of 12 inches because it makes her FEEL POWERFUL! Girls don’t HAVE to dress boyish to be strong! She can make you a sandwich AND be a feminist! Girl power!
What, are you saying women HAVE to do boy things to be taken seriously? Who are you to tell a woman what to do? Maybe some women NEED to get their hair and nails done twice a month to feel powerful! Maybe a lot of women WANT to be stay-at-home moms!
What I don’t think you understand is that women have an inherent feminine spirituality which guides them towards maternal and nurturing paths. Women need to honour their divine female aura to keep their. Their fuckin. Their chakras together or some shit. You should put quartz up your hooha and huff wheatgrass. Leaving manual labour and science and technology to men is natural and good for you spiritually
Uh she can’t do that, that’s a blue job, she’s a pink job girly. Food? Yeah, she’s having #girl dinner, which is a handful of almonds. Time for our 15 step skincare routine, which is empowering. Hashtag #girlboss. Ew no, touching dirt? She’s just a girl. You can’t expect a girl to do that. Haha #girl logic
"Sorry I can't, I'm busy"
Me being busy:
btw you're allowed to enjoy two differing interpretations of the same character and you don't have to justify why you like it to anyone. you can like your evil character to be malicious and serious and you can like depicting them as a silly goober. you can enjoy seeing people draw two characters in all sorts of different contexts and dynamics without having to pick one over the other. you don't have to come up with a complex reason. you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. you can like a character multiple ways without having to justify why it's not problematic or why it's not weird. do what you want. it's fandom, not a testimony before the court.
stucky + textposts + i finally put all the posts in this series under one tag so i don't drive myself nuts looking for them <3
