as a side note, please embrace the fact that s2-s4 Murphy is actually a pretty rational person who like, plans ahead a lot more than most of the other characters and generally tries to avoid danger and that his absolute chaotic problem causing energy in s5 was not just his standard state but kind of a sign of where he was at mentally
bc this weird belief in fandom that Murphy acts without thinking and is completely irrational and Emori (pre s5 growth) has always been completely rational is totally not backed by canon and weird to me
my favorite example is in the s3 finale when everyone’s like let’s go up in the tower with no plan to get down and Murphy’s like “can we not? You want to get trapped up there and die? Because that’s how you get trapped up there and die”
this fandom has mostly tried to keep Murphy’s character what it was in season 1 and only adjusted their understanding of his allies, when really the best part of his character is just how much he changes and grows. And that’s not limited to just learning empathy and becoming a better person - it’s also in the fact that he becomes more level headed and cautious as a direct result of the bad situations his actions (and others’ actions) landed him in
S1 Murphy: what if I create chaos for no reason
S2 - S4 Murphy: oh no that almost got me killed what if I start thinking things through first and not acting chaotically without thinking
S5 Murphy: I’m depressed and mentally unstable, rational thinking who chaotic Murphy is back because at this point something bad happening is better than wasting away on the Ark
