SARCIA - Devlog 37 : Character Creation and Final HUD
Hey there everyone so as promised I didnt took as long this time before giving you more news! And oh some news I have for you!Ā
Ā The Character CreationĀ
This is a new feature I have been wanting to add for a long time but wasnāt able until now! So yeah, from now on you will be able to customize your characterās appearance. The main things you will be able to customize are these.
- Your bodyās shape and colorĀ Ā - Your Catalyst, a cristalline tool that is basically your backpack/deck holder as every item in the game is a card but also your source of power -Your Mask which is the Binding agent between your vessel and your spirit but also a mean to express your uniqueness and personality.
After that in game, you will be able to find many costumes for your character to wear, each costume adapting to your bodyās gender.
The Final HUD
Finally, the HUD as seen a small overhaul so that your HP and Stamina are always visible as well as your currency amount and the basic controls of the game. Thatās it for now! Iāll be adding some more customizing option for the next few days but after that Iāll be returning to the creation of Maps for a while I think!
SARCIA - Devlog 36
Hey there everyone! Hope youāve all been well! Iāve decided to keep the devlog shorter from now on so youāll get more of these.
So yeah! Recently Iāve been working on many things for the game! Mainly I worked hard on getting some more variety in the types of environment youāll encounter during your journey! Sarcia is a very chaotic place and it is common sight to see a small desert close to a forest, close to a corrupted tentacle-y place. So I decided to make this very more apparent from the get go! With this in mind, Iāve been reworking most of the maps and here are some examples! I think the game is wayyy more unique-looking since that and Iām quite happy with it!
So yeah thatās about it for now, hope to show you more soon! Iām really deep into producing content, and hooking everything together so I may begin private playtesting soon with some friends!
See ya!
SARCIA - Devlog 35
Hey everyone! As promised here is some news of the last few weeks since the last devlog! Recently Iāve been doing a ton of new card illustrations in order to clear every placeholder art I still have in the game for the first version, so Iāve attached some of the last few illustrations I did for the resources card of the ingredients required to craft the Kasi!
Lastly, here is also a small sneek peak into my first iteration of the āDeck Menuā I wanted to clearly represent the card aspect of your character, so every aspect of your life as a Kaisu within Sarcia, the Storm of All, is represented by a Deck.
-The Resources deck contains all your ingredient that you will gather on your Journey
-The Wansha Deck contains all your available recipes to create new cards. It basically is the Crafting System.
-The Character Deck contains your characterās equipment and traits
-The Objectives Deck contains all your āQuoshaā or Objectives card, basically the quests of your character are all there. Upon reaching the requirement of a Quosha, it will unlock and offer rewards, it is kind of like a booster pack from any TCG game haha, really fun feeling to open one I find!
-The Combat Deck contains all your āVaishaā or āCombat cardsā in order to review what your arsenal is before engaging an enemy.
-The Journey Deck contains all your āVagashaā or āTravelling Cardsā to review which destinations are available to you the next time you enter a portal to a new place within Sarcia.
-Finally, the Lore Deck contains all the āMihrshaā or āKnowledge Cardsā that you will gather during your journey, but be careful, those only tell the story from the side of the author that wrote it.
Thatās about it for this week! See you soon for more!
Hey there people! Today was a crazy day for the website, I got over 100 notifications of likes, following and reblogging, thank you so much for the support! To thank you all, here is a new Process video of me painting one of the Kasi youāll be able to get in the game. For those who donāt know the Kasi are masks that changes the energy and appearance of your avatar in the game.Ā Hope you enjoy! Until next time!
I've been following this game for a while. I'm curious as to how you can do all this work but charge so little for the game? It's an amazing amount of effort you're putting into it and it's truly inspiring. Is it okay to upload gameplay to YouTube? I want to help you out as much as you can.
First of all, Thank you a lot for your comment! Right now it is true that the game is at a very low price, this is only for one reason, the gameās release that you can currently buy and play has very little content and was almost a prototype of what the current version of the game is on my end. Upon the next release the game will go up in price as the amount of content and the quality of it all :). Right now iām thinking about a 10-15$ price tag but things can change!
SARCIA - Devlog 34
Hey there people! Hope youāve all been doing great during this as always too long devlog hiatus! Iām gonna cut this introduction short as we have a lot to talk about!
A new beginning for my career : Sabotage Studio
One of the main reason Iāve been silent lately is because my life has been completely changed recently when I left my job as a 3D Artist for a video game company here in Quebec to join a new small indie Studio called Sabotage Studio where I am working as the main environment Artist for our first game. I highly encourage all of you to like our Facebook page, for the official reveal of our first game which is not that far away! In all my professional time in the video game industry Iāve never been so excited to work on a project! So go check it out!
https://www.facebook.com/SabotageQC/
What does it change for Sarcia?
Well, some very positive things happens in consequence of that. I have a more loose schedule, a nice place to work away from home and also the absolute legal right to do and sell the game as an indie developper, where before I was in a weird legal grey zone which prevented me to release the game to a wider public. So yeah itās good!
But what about the game itself, how does progress fare?
Well, It would be impossible for me to list all the changes since the last Devlog but I can now firmly say that the features of the game are all 100% there and content continues to be put in. I currently feel that the base gameās loop is all there. The only thing that misses before releasing the first version of the game to you is the replacement of the Placeholder art!
We want some visuals!
Well sure I can give you some eye treats! As you probably already saw, thereās some screenshots up above but here is also a video of me doing an illustration for one of the playerās appearance that you will be able to unlock in the game. I intend to do more of these for you as I find them highly formative for me to watch also!
So yeah Iāll keep it to that for now so I have some more things to talk to you soon! :D
Devlog 33 : The Potion Brewers, Crafting Kits and Orika Pools.
Heya guys and gals! Told you it wouldnāt be as long this time! Just to keep you updated, the last few weeks were mainly about adding more content in itself to the game! The focus has been mainly into theĀ āRandom Dungeonsā and adding stuff to progress towards this time.Ā
The Potion Brewers
A new faction has appeared, the Potion Brewers as I call them for now. They are dedicated to the art of brewing buffing potions and damaging elemental brews. This means a new type of Skill has appeared in the game, the Item Skills which not only require some Oriea to use but also require a precise item to use, so youāll have to craft them before being able to use them in combat, but they are quite powerful in exchange.
While anyone can use their potions as a mean to buff themselves, those who dedicate themselves to this art will unlock the use of their powerful brews as part of their skill deck.
Crafting Kits
The Crafting Kits are now in the game, they are basically crafting stations that you can use anywhere you want to, but they require progress in their respective faction to acquire and will be upgradable as you progress in these factions.
Orika Slabs
The Orika Slabs are basically your checkpoints. Big amount of crystals fused together into a big slab that will restore all your energies. Should you fall into battle, you will be revived to the last one youāve been.
Other Things
A lot of small things since last time of course
Two new enemies have appeared in the wild, the Lossu Toad which can poison you and cause some nasty damage over time and the Lossu Charger which is a powerful beast with a lot of HP!
Added the new shortcut āTā leading to the Crafting Kit windowĀ
Added many new ingredient to find in the wild
Added many new maps to the Random Dungeon system
Created some new VFX for the new potion Brewers skills
Many new cards illustrations of course.
So yeah thatās about it for this time! See you soon guys!Ā
Devlog 32 : The Good Pace and the Great Silence
Hey there people! Itās been waaaay too long, and Iām very sorry about that. Truth is, Iāve been veeeery busy at work, lot of overtime and all, but hey good news, it did not slowed the gameās development, on the contrary things have been going very smoothly for a while!
So to give you a brief summary of what has been going on here it is!
Finished the IntroĀ āCinematicā with music and all
Reviewed all the musical tracks with Morusque to bring a bit more coherence between the gameās world and its soundtrack
Created many visual assets for the gameās maps Architecture, Ruins, Trees and Lossu were the main focus.
Developed the Random Encounter Zones
Refactor of the Random Dungeons system. The World is now separated into two types of region. TheĀ āMainā Regions which are statics and offers a precise place to visit with itās own very unique history. The second type is āRandomā Regions which are there to offer replayability and a way to progress your character and challenge yourself. Both offer their unique secrets and will open new paths for you in one another.
Currently in the process of creating many maps for those random dungeons
Fleshing out and playtesting the gameās core loop of progression.
Evolution and merging of the Nalsu system I talked before. I realized that this is basically the core progression of the game. Those will all be part of the new Loyalty system. Your character will be able to rank up amongst different factions that all have different beliefs, view of the world and things to offer.
Put in place the firstĀ āFactionā of the game, the Storm Wardens with which you can trade ressources for currency that let you buy new skills and new appearances if you are part of them.
So yeah, many many things happened but Iām reaaally proud to say that the game is currently in a state that not only feels like an actual game but also that I actually enjoy to play, maybe a little too much even as I may be loosing some time playing the game haha. So yeah. Iāll try to give you news more frequently than this, but only when I feel it is relevant to do so I think, as I want to give you this game as fast as I can!
Devlog 31 : The final part of the road to the Tutorial Area.(For Now)
Hey guys! So what have I been up to in the last two weeks? Well some little things here and there!
First, the basic code and script for the Tutorial is now completed! I will adjust the visual of the map here and there, adjust some timings and dialogs but the core of it is there and playable from a to z so yay!!
Secondly, in the last two weeks Iāve also been working on some new assets notably for the trees and theĀ āWorld Mapā visuals too, nothing quite final to show yet but expect something in one of the next devlogs!
Thirdly, Iāve decided to give the player a way to decipher the alphabet of the game within theĀ āPersonal Interfaceā as I call it. So you will now find a glossary of all the alphabet when pressing theĀ āEā key, this will add a lot of ergonomy for one of the core mechanic of the game that previously required you to take notes on a piece of paper that you would surely lose many times over the course of the lifetime of the game haha.
Lastly Iāve also been working quite a lot on the writing of the lore and backstories that are quite important for this next release, but hey no spoiler :P.
Thatās it for this devlog! See you all in two weeks! :D
Devlog 30 : The Nazur Architecture
Hey there people! This weekās update is still a bit short. But I wanted to show you the progress done on one of the Architecture style youāll be seeing in the next version. This picture also show you how I build different structures with some basic pieces. This help me build coherent cultural architecture with very little effort.Ā
Also, all these pieces are all made using Smart Objects within Photoshop so if, for example I want to switch up colors or adjust some detail on a piece, it will apply to all instance of this piece I used within every building. Itās quite a nice trick if youāre looking to build up something similar!
These will probably covered in snow in the game but these will serve me as base to build some areas of the game! Thought it would be cool to show you so here it is! :D
Devlog 29 : The new Bi-Weekly Devlogs
Hey there people! Sorry for the unusual long delay this week. To be honest it is simply because Iāve not much to say this week, I did not find any time to work on the game last week, this was doomed to happen some day hehe. This led me to the decision the Title already spoiled. Itās something Iāve been toying with in my head for some time now.
The Devlogs will now be released every two weeks. With full-time work in the video game industry + Sarcia, + Life, I donāt always have something meaningful to show every week anymore, now that most of the systems are done and that I donāt want to spoil all the content for you guys.Ā
So yeah, from now on, the Devlogs will be bi-weekly, or sometimes lesser time if I feel that I have enough to do one before that!Ā
To be clear, the project is not in any danger whatsoever it is still in regular devlopment, but it is the price to pay for not being able to work full time on the project, sometimes there will be downtimes!
In hope to have much more to show in two weeks! (Itās not hope, itās a promise)
See ya!
Devlog 28 : The Road to the Final Tutorial Part III
Hey there fellas! Here is the news for this week, another very small week as I had small time during the week and the weekend but yeah it is coming along. The combat part of the tutorial is now done, there are only three other small parts left to this area before I call it done so yay! Canāt wait to return to the true content of the game!
Also I noticed quite a few new followers on Facebook and Tumblr this week so welcome to you all guys and thank you for the support it is greatly appreciated!
Thatās it for this week, sorry once more for the very small updates! Hope I get more time this week!
Devlog 27 : The Road to the Final Tutorial Part II
Hey guys! So this week was basically the following of last week, except that I had way less time to actually work properly on the game Iām about 2/3 done for the tutorial so hereās to hoping itās going to be done next week! So yeah! thatās about it for this week. Sorry for the lack of info, but hey at least you get a new screenshot! :P
See ya next week!
Devlog 26 : The way to the Final Tutorial Area
Hey guys! This week was about continuing working on the final area of the tutorial. Now that I was happy with the general layout of it. I finished working on the assets for this area and started working on its final look. Also Iām currently trying to script this part a bit more in order to also give you some basic lore cues and guide you more organically through all the mechanics of the game. Iām quite happy with the way it plays as of now. I have about the half of the area fully playable, I plan to finish it this week!
Some other small things
Reworked the layout of the Analyze Mode to let the dialog windows appear with or without the HUD
Modified some assets to fit with their lore background.
Did some new sky backgrounds.
Thatās it for this week, Iām really happy that everything is coming along nicely! We do approach a new release guys!
Devlog 25 : The Waka, a new Font and other things.
Hey guys! This week, Iāve been a lot busy so I did not have a chance to work properly on the game. I did some little things here and there though.
The Waka The Waka are the Eyes of Ori. They are small flying machines that will teach you some basic concepts youāll need to know in order to proceed.
The New Font I was not pleased with the previous font, it was too hard to read long pieces of text. This one is quite better I think!
A new Architecture Set Iāve also started working on a new set of Architecture Assets that will help me define a civilisation that is quite important in the game.
Thatās about it for this week! See you soon!Ā
Devlog 24 : The Nalsu and the Prologue
Hey there people! Once more Iām late but for a good reason, Iāve been working on what I teased last week and also, Iāve been putting up a first pass on the Prologue Cutscene of the game, a sort of vision given to every player avatar upon their birth.
The Nalsu The Nalsu is the reworked feature. In the last version of the game they were known as the Nalkasi. This time around, they will provide you with a way to put on your own custom class. By adding a Totem card of a Nalsu to your Deck, you gain access to all of this Nalsuās skill cards basically. Each Nalsu will have at least one shrine in the world and those will be up to you to find. When interacting with those shrine you will be able to trade the Nalsuās currency for new skills. Each Nalsu is looking for something different as tribute. For example one Nalsu may require you to gather some rare ressources, others may require the blood of your victims, some may require you to craft things, etc... In short, that is the idea! Iām still vague about it but itās for your own good!
The Prologue So yeah! The Prologue, like I said in the beginning, this is a short cutscene made of some illustrations and some text that will give you a (Very) brief history of the world and its genesis, or so it is told. But hey it adds a lot for immersion into this very strange world I think! :P
So yeah thatās it for this week, see you next week folks!
