I’m really thankful for those of you who stuck with me through this art journey since April 🙏 It was a long but fun art session pushing myself out of my own comfort zone. I also really enjoyed the series a lot! It was always fun to read everyone’s theories, see their fanart, and even revel in our shared excitement for upcoming episodes!
Many people in the comments are saying “trauma”, but this is actually a very normal occurrence. It’s called Childhood Amnesia, and it’s a process which, as the brain reorganizes itself for cognitive thought that is developed in late childhood, it changes the Accessibility of those memories during recall. Many childhood memories are available to the person, but they will not be remembered during regular recall activity, you have to “trick” your brain into remembering with different tactics.
This is because there are two parts to memories - their encoding and their recall. The encoding determines their availability, their recall determines their accessibility. The reason why trauma memory and childhood amnesia are different is in this distinction. Trauma memory is often encoded differently, bypassing to the limbic system where it is stored as intrinsic memory. It can’t be recalled because it was never encoded. Childhood amnesia, however, seems to indicate that the memories are encoded, but we lose access to them as we age. This is most likely due to the development of brain structures that fundamentally change our encoding and recall of memory as we get older.
This is an important distinction, because trauma memory is “stored in the body”, i.e. you get triggers that send your body into a cascade of uncontrollable feelings, sensations and reactions. Whereas childhood memories won’t generally do that, they are just recalled at odd times with odd associations.

It's insane to me how many people have accepted the narrative of "if we want to protect minors, we need to give more power to their parents" as if one of the main issues facing minors in abusive environments isn't literally that they're completely at the mercy of their parents as is
fairly reliably when someone is mean and weird to you on Tumblr, you can look on their blog and all their recent posts will be about how unhappy they are in their interpersonal relationships and/or how frustrated they are that their creative venture hasn't found success. and it's like ohhhhh okay, I get it. you're clawing at other people because you're actively drowning. my sympathies, that sucks, but I'm not a lifeguard so carry on.
Single argument in favor: The Very Loose Taxonomy argument. A sandwich is food surrounded by bread. If you're willing to define tacos, hotdogs, hot pockets, pies, and filled pastries as "sandwiches," then yes, "two croutons with chicken and lettuce" is a sandwich.
There are several arguments against, take your pick from the following.
Purpose Argument: A sandwich was invented to make otherwise-messy food more convenient to eat with the hands, without needing silverware or making a mess. The croutons and food needed a fork to be held in place, and are too small to eat around the fork as one might with an actual sandwich and a toothpick. Therefore, it does not serve any of the purposes of a sandwich.
Intent Argument: It's only a sandwich if you're actually trying to make a sandwich (or something sandwich-like) for the purpose of using it as a sandwich. Unless you intend to eat those four items as you would a sandwich and purposely organized them that way, it's not a sandwich.
Strict Taxonomy Argument: A sandwich is food between two separate pieces of bread, where the bread holds the food in place (occasionally with small structural support) and is used as a handle by which to grasp the food and convey it to the mouth; the food does not extend too far from the confines of the sandwich, allowing you to do this. The fork is larger than the four items put together, the lettuce and chicken are most likely larger than the croutons, the assembly is held together solely by the fork and not at all by the pressure of pushing the croutons together, and the whole thing is eaten off the fork, therefore it does not match the taxonomy of the sandwich.
Wittgenstein's Usage Argument: If you offered someone a sandwich and gave them that, they'd think you were fucking with them and would not consider it a real sandwich. Language is use, and "sandwich" is not used this way, ergo it's not a sandwich.
