◟ ✶ tobias loved the satisfaction of proving people wrong. he knew he was young, probably looked like he didn’t know shit about shit, but here he was . . . hands on his hips waiting for the woman to stop complaining and turn the keys. when the engine roared he nodded, giving caela a once-over. he wasn’t actually bothered by anything she said, he was just a sarcastic and playful son-of-a-bitch. “apology accepted, but this is where i tell you the bad news,” approaching her car door, his elbow above his head leaning on it. “your batteries gone to shit. you’ll get maybe a few blocks before it dies again. i could follow you to my shop, get it fixed for you in a few days for a cheap price, real cheap. the kind of cheap that keeps me barely in business, and you on the road.”

minhee finds her gaze drifting over to the other every so often as they both apply their makeup. she wasn't blind and could easily admit that they other was beautiful. she almost frowns as she finds herself comparing their looks. it's a nasty habit she's trying to get out of so instead she turns to the other. "how do you always get your makeup to look so flawless? please teach me." if her words didn't work, minhee wasn't afraid to whip out the puppy dog eyes.

◟ ✶ “comparison is the thief of joy,” maliah couldn’t recall the quotes origin directly, but being a professional skater meant learning how to stand proud in yourself wherever life placed you. confidence didn’t come for free. maliah faked it until she made it for years, and now she found herself on the other end— content with herself, and still struggling in other areas of her life. she couldn’t redirect her danger-prone brain in the same way she could an insecure thought, a complaint her therapist heard time and time again. maliah knew time was the remedy for trauma, she’s just impatient.

she shook her head and pushed away those thoughts for now. her finger tucks her hair behind her ears, debby ryan style. “oh you’re making me blush,” maliah muses, and swats her hand in light hearted dismissal. “you’re being too hard on yourself. you’re too hot for that. but if you want some glitter spray in your hair, i will help with that.”

/ i forgot i used to have a zaria simone muse named miriam and her family owned a costume shop that THRIVED during halloween and i also had an au where she was a werewolf/witch hybrid but i kinda want to change it where in her slice of life verse her family owns a costume/witchy-esque store all together but she was so cutieee i miss her

🎸⚡ —— "We are not sweet. We are rough, we're the bane of this town's existence. There are old biddies that go to church that look at us and go the opposite direction if they aren't talking about getting us saved. We're not sweet." But he went to pick up his coffee, take a bit sip, whipped cream and marshmallows be damned — though it was nicer cup of coffee he's had in years but never mind that! — wiping his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt. Cupping his hands over the mug, he took a deep breath. "...but that speaks more to the people in this small ass town that wet their panties and not in the fun way, over anything..." He tried to find the word, head swaying side to side trying to find it, "Let's just say....different." He gave a shrug, "But just because we're nerds doesn't mean we're sweet, okay?" Okay, well, maybe Dustin could be in that category, if he thought about it for a moment. "...most of us aren't. And shows what you know. I was gonna leave a tip, anyway. We ain't sweet, but, we're not assholes and that's double for me, personally. Most of the time."

◟ ✶ “lord have mercy . . . you really sat there and said all that with a straight face, didn’t you?” briar thought it was the sweetest thing— how eddie came to his friends’ defense without wasting a breath. it was a special attribute not many people had, especially these days, when crowds of people bled into each other with that distasteful sameness they praised as normal. it was funny, how briar condemned them in her mind, but on the outside she looked just like them: the same exaggerated t shirts and bell bottoms, curled hair with flashy makeup. at least on that angle she never did too much— she was still briar beneath all that conformity. today she was sporting a yellow and white plaid dress with a pair of white shoes and a matching apron. her hair was curled beneath an identical plaid headband.

she’d moved to hawkins during her sophomore year of high school. known as the pretty girl from tennessee with a thick accent. her style ignited a plethora of whispers in the beginning— cowboy hats and boots didn’t mesh with the small town flair. she changed herself to avoid any glares, recalling going home after her first day with tears streaming from her eyes down to her pillowcase.

“oh, but you are trouble.” the accent, the only thing left of herself she couldn’t strip away, chimed through her speech as she filled up the cup eddie held. “you been trouble since i made my way to hawkins high. well . . . as far as the teachers go . . . and maybe the other students too, but you were always sweet as a peach to me. consider me grateful.” it was true briar had been in eddie’s original graduating class, but since he’d been held back, she and the rest moved on with their lives. she was at the local community college now, getting classes done there in hopes of transferring elsewhere after the fall semester. she recalled seeing him in the halls, at lunch, standing on tables and making himself look silly. she wasn’t in the popular crowd herself, or on eddie’s level either. she made sure she blended in as much as she could. she admired how well he seemed to handle the cruelty.

“and what about that actual band of yours? corroded coffin? hm?” she tilted her head. “don’t be surprised. i get around. well, word of mouth, but you get my point. you thinkin’ about makin’ your way out of hawkins after you graduate? these folks here might not appreciate your sound, but if you get deeper into the city . . . you’ll find yourselves on a plane to stardom.” she swatted her hand a bit. “psh. those church ladies? all those weasels at hawkins high? they don’t know what’s good for ’em. bless their hearts, they think a leather jacket means you worship the devil and eat babies for breakfast.” she shook her head, lips curling. “rough boys don’t order marshmallows.”
