Submitting Prompts

The link to the Google form for prompt submissions will go live right here this Friday October 16th.

So what's the deal with the prompts? Just like for any Yankee Swap or White Elephant, you need to bring a gift. In lieu of the gift you must submit a prompt that will be swapped beginning October 23.

The Google prompt form will have options for you to note any preferences and hard limits so that no one will be stuck writing for a prompt they are not comfortable with.

Keep in mind that there will be swapping and stealing back and forth throughout the initial swap part, so be patient, if you have a prompt you don't like there's a chance for you to swap it with someone later before it ends.

Any concerns will be addressed with issues about prompt content, but we will cross that bridge if and when the need arises.

How To Play

Swap Rules & Guidelines

Like at any Yankee Swap, everyone taking part must bring a gift.

Likewise, for our Fic Swap. So, everyone who is interested in participating must sign up and also submit a prompt. Sign-ups are just so we can keep track of everything, the prompts are anonymous. Sign-ups and prompt submissions are two separate actions.

A number will then be designated for each prompt to keep it organized and maintain anonymity.

Once everyone is signed up and they submit all the prompts, the mod will do some type of live (either a live/streaming/TBD) drawing of all the numbers which will then be assigned on a corresponding Google Sheet Swap List.

Person #1’s prompt will be revealed.

Person #2’s has a choice between keeping their “unopened gift” (unrevealed prompt) or swapping it with the already revealed prompt from person #1; if they keep their “gift” then their mystery prompt will be revealed.

Person #3 will choose either to keep their “unopened gift” (unrevealed prompt) or swap it with already revealed prompt from either person #1 or #2; if they choose to keep their “gift” then their mystery prompt will be revealed.

Person #4 has the same options as above and can choose with person #1, 2 or 3, rules continue on as stated above. The game continues until everyone has opened a gift.

Once everyone has opened a gift (writing prompt) Person #1 now has the option to choose to either keep their “gift”/prompt or swap with anyone they choose.

Each participant will keep the prompt they end up with at the end of the swap and the writing begins!

The moderator will open up a prompt reveal box on the google form starting December 4. You will be able to edit your google response to add your name to your prompts for the reveal on the 19th.  

Prompt reveals are on December 19th.
