Viktor's landlord kicks him out on the last day of June - the fucker. Kicks him out might be exaggerating, more like politely emails him the eviction notice and tells him to fuck right off. Were he prone to melodramatics, he would call it homophobic, it is pride month after all.

The next day, he browses through the rental websites in desperation. Realistically, he knew that rents have gone up but as he buries his face into his hands he cannot quite believe just how much. That narrows his options more than he would like to admit. The prices near the university are exorbitant and the postdoc salary he receives really isn't gonna cover living anywhere near the city centre.

Now, the place he currently inhabits is decent enough. The neighbourhood might not be the nicest and he has to store a baseball bat in the little wardrobe he has in the lobby because every now and then people will turn up looking for the previous tenant. Viktor is not sure how menacing of a threat he poses even with the baseball bat. Sometimes he wonders if even the decorative sword he owns might do a better job despite its dull edge.

The fact remains that he must find something equally stamp sized to relocate to in a month. Somewhere where hopefully he doesn't have to fight off people with a baseball bat that is. So dutifully he emails the estate agents, goes to apartment viewings and yet still doesn't get an offer. Technically, Viktor wouldn't mind couch surfing for a while if it came to that. His back however, does mind. And it minds a great deal.

And then he makes the biggest mistake of his life. Viktor mentions his predicament to his friend and colleague Jayce. It happens on a coffee run. They are both too exhausted to think and what better way to fuel the brain than a little escape to a local cafe. On the edge of his mind Viktor remembers a mathematical formula for the half life of caffeine but it doesn't stop him. It also doesn't stop him from blurting out his apartment struggles to Jayce.

Jayce is his colleague. Jayce is also one Viktor's closest friends. He also happens to be the guy who Victor has had a crush for the past two years they have known each other. The only reason Viktor hasn't entertained asking him out is the fact that they are friends and well.. multitude of other reasons really.

This is when the worst possible scenario starts to play out. Jayce asks him to move in with him. He has recently broken up with his longterm girlfriend and could use 'a buddy to share the rent with'. Viktor for the life of him cannot come up with an excuse fast enough.

This is how he ends up living with Jayce Talis - the man he desperately wants to fuck silly.
